1990 Texas Volvo 240 Dl Wagon 4-door 2.3l Manual Transmission on 2040-cars

US $3,995.00
Year:1990 Mileage:277500 Color: has plenty of shine left
Location:

Carrollton, Texas, United States

Carrollton, Texas, United States

This wagon is a rare find.   Originally purchased in California, and driven to Austin, TX to spend the majority of it's life with one owner.   It appears to have original paint.    The Texas sun doesn't allow for that unless it was always stored in a garage.

The exterior has plenty of shine left.   Of course, it is Texas rust free!

The interior is the very dark Grey/Blue plush cloth that almost appears black in color.   In the pictures I hadn't even vacuumed or cleaned it yet.   There are no rips or tears and far less then average wear.    The dash has several cracks that can be fixed, or replaced.
The drivers seat has many adjustments and is literally as comfortable as my couch.

The engine starts with the twist of the key, it burns no oil, has a lot of new parts, and pulls with full power through all the gears.    The transmission is smooth.    The clutch is strong.

It has (4) nearly new Michelin tires.   Brakes don't make any noise and stop the car exactly as they should.

I would put my grandmother in this car and let her drive cross country.)   Did I mention the A/C blows ICE COLD!!

The new sony deck with mp3 player plug in sounds great!

All the electronics work!     Once you drive it you will not believe it has 277k on it!    It goes to show you, a properly maintained and driven volvo 240 is  far better than a 100k mile 240 that has been ignored.   These cars are meant to be driven and maintained.   You will not be dissapointed.

The only fault with the interior is the spare tire cover in the back.    Like most of them, it has rotted out and been replaced with a new plywood template.   It just needs to be covered with the matching blue carpet. (or leave it as is).

Driven sensibly, 30 mpg should be easily within reach.   This was last used as a commuter car for that reason.   It cruises the TX highways at 75 mph with ease and comfort.

This is a 24 year old car, it is an exceptional example of a classic volvo 240 wagon. It is sold with love but no express or implied warranty of any kind.  The car is sold as is, ready to drive home or be shipped anywhere in the country.

I am available to help you secure shipping if this is your first time.   Thanks for looking!

Volvo developing new three-cylinder engine family

Mon, 25 Aug 2014

Pop the hood on a Volvo of recent vintage and you'll find four-, five-, six- and even eight-cylinder engines. But the Swedish automaker is downsizing its engines over the coming years. The new XC90, set to be revealed later this week, will use a new family of four-cylinder engines (like the one pictured above). But that's not even the end of it as emerging reports speak of a new three-cylinder engine family in the works.
The new 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine will, according to reports, help Volvo further cut its carbon emissions in line with constricting regulations in markets like Europe and Australia. There won't be quite as many versions as the four-cylinder range, which will include gasoline and diesel versions in varying states of tune, but the three-pot motor is tipped to be employed in vehicles as large as the S60 and its stablemates. Larger than that, however, and the three-cylinder engine apparently just doesn't have the necessary torque.
Expect the new three-cylinder engine to be introduced sometime later this decade, after the four-cylinder's introduction in 2016. The three-cylinder engine is also set to form the building block of an even more efficient hybrid propulsion system in the future, enabling this new engine family to stay relevant through 2025.

This Volvo truck is for the birds... literally

Fri, 16 Nov 2012

If you were mentally scarred by the Alfred Hitchcock thriller The Birds, you may not want to watch this video. For everyone else, this is a rather perplexing event. It appears that thousands of pigeons are released from a Volvo truck at the command of a whistle. It looks visually stunning, but for what purpose? Well, we're not entirely sure, but it looks to be the simultaneous release at the start of a major pigeon race.
Now, we don't suspect that Volvo has eschewed its self-titled Volvo Ocean Race for a more avian-inspired competition. We're also not quite sure where this competition is being held, but it may be an annual event, as we also found a similar video with a different MAN rig on YouTube that was posted in 2011. but if you have even the slightest case of Ornithophobia, you best steer clear of this feathered mob. Otherwise, check out the video of this massive flock on the move in the video below. We've even thrown in a video of the gas station scene from Hitchcock's 1963 classic to get you in the mood.

Volvo working on ultra-lux four-seat XC90 for China?

Tue, 09 Sep 2014

In China, it's all about being driven. That's why we've seen so many automakers stretch their most popular models to appeal to buyers in the Chinese market. Volvo is certainly no stranger to this, and according to Autocar, the company is already working on a super-lux, four-seat version of its recently launched XC90 crossover.
Volvo won't stretch the XC90 and just increase second-row legroom, however. Instead, the company will reportedly remove both the standard XC90's second and third row benches, and install a duplicate set of front seats in the rear compartment, featuring the same electric adjustment features, including massage. These more luxurious thrones will be placed further back in the vehicle, allowing for "exceptional" legroom, Autocar reports, without needing to stretch the wheelbase.
Mum's the word on when we can expect to see the high-zoot Volvo arrive, though the magazine estimates that it surface later this year.
