1979 Volvo 242 Rare 2 Door Low Miles Excellent Condion on 2040-cars
Boise, Idaho, United States
I worked at the Volvo factory Torslana in Goteborg and helped build the 79 and 80's. Spent the next 35 years as a heavy equipment mechanic. Now I am retired and resurrect these 240's as a hobby. This car ( Curtis is it's name ) belonged to a little old lady who donated it to a local charity. The young lady who bought it never checked the oil. Ruined the motor. I could not see it go to the crusher. So I.Built a new motor including new injectors, serviced and resealed the trans. I installed new shocks and struts, upper strut bearings, ball joints, tie rods, brakes ,including master cylinder,u-joints . New battery, hoses, belts, wipers. etc. Many other new parts and repairs not listed. The odometer had stopped shortly before I got it at 135000, so it has been replaced with one that works showing 68,800. miles. The Michelin tires are 90 %. Recent alignment. The original clock and stereo/cassette player work (( 1979 Grateful Dead concert tape included )) Solid exhaust, heater ,washers. . The seats are sound and the tipping latches work. They are not ripped but faded, thus the Jaguar seat covers .It has only the one rust hole ,the rest is very solid. The doors don't sag or rattle. no drips.Starting bid is equal to what I spent on it. I have too many Volvos ,not enough space. This car is ready to drive anywhere Questions 208-899-5946 happy bidding |

Volvo already planning road-going V8 Supercar?
Sat, 15 Mar 2014After decades of cat-and-mouse battle waged between Holden and Ford, Australia's V8 Supercars series has expanded considerably. Mercedes and Nissan both joined the grid last season, and Volvo has followed suit this year. So when 2014 championship kicked off earlier this month in Adelaide, everyone was watching to see who would come out on top.
The answer is Holden, which took first place in all three of the weekend's races. In fact the General Motors division locked out the podium in the first and third races and took first and third places in the second race, letting just one other manufacturer onto the podium the entire weekend - and that was Volvo. The Polestar S60 scored second place on its first race weekend, beating all the Nissan Altimas, the Mercedes E63 AMGs, the Ford Falcons and most of the Holden Commodores.
Now that's hardly winning the championship, but it's a very solid debut. And that point was not lost on the people back at headquarters in Sweden, who are already thinking about making a roadgoing version of the race-spec V8 Supercar.
Volvo's pedestrian airbags may already be on their way out
Sun, 01 Dec 2013As proof of just how quickly automotive technology can advance, just check out the Volvo V40. Developed with an external airbag aimed at better protecting pedestrians in the event of a collision, this innovative safety device could be phased out soon in place of more advanced active safety technologies like pedestrian detection and auto braking.
Go Auto had a chance to talk to Volvo senior VP Lex Kerssmakers at the Tokyo Motor Show, and he suggested that the V40's under-hood airbag will not be used on the next-gen XC90 and might not even be continued on non-SUV models. The passive airbag was designed to deploy at speeds of less than 31 miles per hour to help limit head injuries to pedestrians, but new active technologies are designed to prevent collisions in the first place.
The interview also reveals some details about the new XC90, such as the inclusion of a plug-in hybrid system and the debut of a new safety technology. Kerssmakers told Go Auto that a new Volvo concept will be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January, but it won't be for the XC90.
Volvo opens order books for XC90 First Edition
Wed, 03 Sep 2014The new Volvo XC90 breaks new ground in any number of ways. It's based on a new modular platform, packs new engines, introduces a new design language and incorporates a whole slew of new safety systems. Even in its sales approach, it takes Volvo into new territory.
In what Volvo calls an industry first, the first 1,927 examples of the new XC90 will be sold online. Those First Edition models, whose production numbers honor the year of the company's founding, will come fully equipped in T6 AWD guise with the twin-charged (but not hybrid) 316-horsepower engine, air suspension, Bowers & Wilkins audio system and 21-inch Inscription alloys, decked out in black with a tan Nappa leather interior, all for $65,900.
As you can see from the online store, ordering has officially begun. Get one while they're hot.
