This 1978 Volvo 242 GT was my dream car.  When i initially got it one year ago it was running and was in good mechanical condition.  I decided to try and make it perfect (my mistake!).  It needed new paint job since there was a few spots of surface rust.  Well, what you see is my car with over $15,000 spent a year later.  I tried with three different independent restoration guys in Austin, Texas and none of them would finish the job.  They were just interested in making money and have lied and cheated me.  I am giving up on my dream car now.  My loss will be your gain.  This 1978 Volvo GT was completely taken apart.  I know I paid for a complete refresh on anything mechanical on it, but cannot guarantee how well it was completed. The car does run now but will need the rear main seal reinstalled since it was not properly installed.  Also, know that the drive shaft needs to be installed correctly as well.  When I got the car back from the first guy he gave me the car and all the parts you see in boxes.  I was concerned that he may not have given me all the parts to it so I found another car (1980 Volvo GT)  and purchased it.  This bid is for a 1980 Volvo GT as well.  The 1980 GT can be used to get interior parts and it was the nice Virgo wheels.  The 1980 Volvo GT was running when it was parked four years ago.  It has good floor panels which you will need one of them for the 1978 Volvo GT.  I am including a couple of photos of the 1980 Volvo GT as well.  I have clear title for both cars.

You are welcome to call me at 512 785 0010 with any questions.  Thank you and good luck bidding.

Volvo won't go after S-Class, 7 Series market

Mon, 22 Apr 2013

Volvo vice president of powertrain engineering, Derek Crabb, recently said that the Swedish automaker is developing smaller and smarter powertrain options that will "turn V8s into dinosaurs" - a statement that could have been our first indication that Volvo is no longer looking to create a luxury flagship sedan to take on German land yachts like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Audi A8 and BMW 7 Series. Now Automotive News seems to be backing this up after speaking with CEO Hakan Samuelsson, who said that a big sedan wouldn't fit the brand's green image and, more importantly, might not even be a car that its customers would even consider.
Rather than trying to compete in a small, established market against rear-drive, 12-cylinder sedans, Volvo is looking at the emerging, higher-volume premium small car segment to take on its German rivals with the all-new Volvo V40 (shown above). Not wanting to abandon the big-vehicle segment altogether, a next-generation XC90 is due out within the next couple years (and was spotted in some recent spy shots), and it will ride on the new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA), which will be shared with the new S80 according to the AN article.

The Swedes Bend Sixes And Fives Into Fours
With government agency pressures mounting, the auto industry's latest engine and powertrain trends invariably include the cobbling of heretofore eight-cylinder models into charged (either turbo- or super-) six-cylinder models, six-cylinders into charged four-cylinders and so on. And then there's the mating of these downsized engines to fuel-saving automatic transmissions with ratio counts previously reserved for bicycles and semi trucks. Volvo can at last follow suit with the best of Germany and Japan thanks in great part to an $11-billion multi-year investment by its Chinese owners, Geely.
After we survived the recent Frankfurt Motor Show marathon of news and reveals (chief among said bits being the stunning Volvo Concept Coupe), we were escorted by the Swedish automaker to the far less frenetic air of southern France to explore the most significant step yet in the company's new life. Volvo's entire movement of new tech is referred to as Drive-E, and it includes these all-new four-cylinder engines we just tested, a new modular architecture called Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) that will first be found under the next-generation XC90, along with a host of other onboard advancements. Think of it as a Scandinavia's version of Mazda Skyactiv, a total-systems approach to developing more efficient yet more sporting new models.

Watch Volvo's V8 Supercar drivers play with the Polestar S60 in the Arctic

Thu, 03 Apr 2014

The Volvo S60 Polestar may not seem like a natural fit for the V8 Supercars series that runs throughout Australia, New Zealand and Tasmania. After all, the all-wheel-drive production-spec car isn't even available with a V8. But the rear-wheel-drive racing version has acquitted itself well in the early races of the season, even scoring an overall win at a race in Melbourne. Currently at seventh place in the championship, the S60 the most successful car that isn't a Holden or Ford.
To celebrate its burgeoning success, Volvo sent its V8 Supercars drivers Robert Dahlgren and Scott McLaughlin to home base in Sweden to have some fun driving in the snow and to visit Polestar headquarters. The two of them do some big power slides on an icy lake and then taker a deeper look into the company's performance division. Scroll down to watch the video full of sliding Swedish sedans.
