Up for sale,  A very rare occurrence,  Two 1973 Volkswagen Squarebacks, bought as a pair from the dealer,  one is a manual and one is a automatic, both in the same color and trim.  They look identical except for the badge automatic on the back and the sticks.  Both cars are straight with minimal rust.  The automatic is currently running and driving but still needs going through.  The manual currently has the engine removed and sitting in the back ready for a freshen up.  I was told that it ran when it was removed and was only removed to make it more powerful.  Both cars have been off the road for a few years but were very well loved by the couple that purchased them new for many years with service records upon service records.  Receipt for a somewhat recent rebuild on the auto engine which runs like a top and does not leak.    The rear tail lights on both cars have cracks from age and bumps.  Both cars rear benches are not as good as the fronts which look to have been redone at some point.  There are owners manuals and emissions booklets, There is some rust on the front passenger fender of the automatic from water or gas possibly from rain gutter drip.  I have an additional yellow fender that I will include to replace if desired.  It is not that bad and can be seen in the pictures.  The manual has some rust on the bottom of the rear fenders on both sides.  both cars have some rust on the inner fenders that can be seen only when the paneling is pulled out of the front trunk.  The automatic has an aftermarket fuel pump in it currently.  I have the original Bosche for the five speed that runs with a battery hooked to hit but condition is unknown. The brakes on both cars are weak and need at bleed at minimum and i may have them improved by the end of the auction but no promises.  The handbrakes work on both cars.  The automatic transmission shifted smooth when I drove it.  The manual has new tires on it and the auto has old tires,  could be swapped since the auto is currently running.  I have not buffed out the cars because I like the patina but I think it would buff out nicely should you want to bring back the original color.  The floorpans and underneath of the car look solid with no holes.  These cars lived their lives in sunny Colorado and have been spared salty roads and lots of humidity that many areas kill cars with.  These are a few details, I will try to answer questions honestly as I feel that these are very special in any state being a pair that has always been together since new.  Both cars are fuel injected.

Note 1:  Drove auto today and added brake fluid,  brakes are working better,  also wiped down with wet cloth and the original paint really came through without even buffing.  Pics of interior are coming soon,  cars are cleaning up nicely.

Note 2:  Both cars have their spare tires, and hubcaps on all 8 wheels,

Note 3: you can see in the latest picture of the manual where i washed it a little that the yellow paint is still yellow under the oxidation.  I will try to add pictures of the engine in the manual as well.

Note: In that recent picture are receipts for engine rebuild and flywheel work,  also there are 7 service logs fuel of info as well as the two Colorado titles on the cars.  These cars are being sold without emissions test, and buyer is responsible for their own but they do from my knowledge have emissions systems on them and include the emissions manuals as well.  They should qualify as pre emissions cars here in Colorado since they are from 1973.

I am not sure of exact mileages on these cars

These cars are being relisted due to a non paying bidder.  If you are not located in the U.S.  please do not bid on this item.

Cars are now listed locally and I reserve the right to end the auction early.

2013 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo Convertible

Wed, 10 Apr 2013

Less Flower, More Power
Pardon our political incorrectness for a moment, but the Volkswagen New Beetle was, undeniably, a "chick car." There was almost nothing that the New Beetle offered to enthusiasts (of either gender), and by the end of its run, VW had even stripped all of the exciting engines from the car's lineup. Looking to resurrect some of the excitement behind the Beetle, the third generation of the iconic car ditched the cuteness when the coupe debuted for 2012, and now the 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible aims to show how much fun drivers can have without a top.
Celebrating almost six and a half decades of the Beetle convertible, Volkswagen is offering a trio of distinct special editions that celebrate three of the car's most popular decades (the '50s, '60s and '70s), but as one of the unofficial cars of the 1960s, it would almost be a crime not to test this version, right? Besides, this is also the only special edition to get the turbocharged engine. While our first drive of the 2013 Beetle Convertible was in the fuel-miser TDI variation, our two-week romp in the 2013 Beetle Convertible '60s Edition came just as peak convertible weather was kicking off down in Florida.

Volkswagen Group names Paefgen head of classics program

Tue, 04 Oct 2011

You may remember the name Franz-Josef Paefgen. Until recently, the German engineer and executive was head of both Bentley and Bugatti. Before that he was chief executive of Audi, after working for several years at Ford. He technically "retired" earlier this year, but like the cars he helped create, an executive like Paefgen could never really retire. So it should come as little surprise that the Volkswagen Group has named Dr. Paefgen head of its Classic program.
In his new capacity, Paefgen will oversee the historic automobile activities of the entire VW Group, including those of Volkswagen, Seat, Skoda, Audi, Lamborghini, and of course Bentley and Bugatti. It strikes us as a suitable semi-retirement for the man responsible in no small part for the Bugatti Veyron and Bentley Mulsanne, to name just two, and who was decorated in 2006 by the ACO as the "Spirit of Le Mans" for his contribution to endurance racing. Volkswagen Routan dead, pour out a sippy cup for your little homies

Thu, 28 Mar 2013

America's minivan wolfpack has just gotten smaller by one. According to Automotive News, Volkswagen officials have confirmed what we've suspected for some time - the Routan is dead. Essentially a lightly reworked version of the Dodge Grand Caravan, the Routan actually hasn't been rolling off of Chrysler's Windsor, Ontario production line at all this year, but VW had yet to confirm its discontinuation. However, Jonathan Browning, CEO of VW America, has reportedly admitted that the Routan is being axed, with remaining units expected to be funneled into corporate functions for "internal purposes."
The move isn't unexpected - the Routan has never been a big seller, with just 57,650 examples moved since sales began in 2008 - peak yearly sales totaled under 16,000 units, and that was back in 2010. And while many have talked of the minivan segment shrinking, Automotive News points out that the segment actually grew 14 percent last year to 597,118 units, though it should be noted that most segments have been on sales upticks as the US economy chugs out of its recession.
So, is volume-crazy Volkswagen prepared to pass on large family vehicle sales? Probably not - the German automaker has signaled that it plans to build a three-row crossover in North America soon, and we wouldn't be surprised if it looks an awful lot like the Crossblue Concept from January's Detroit Auto Show - minus the fancy plug-in diesel powertrain.
