For all our military vehicle collectors:

Here we have for sale one rare vehicle in completely ORIGINAL condition.

It is the REAL Thing. A German Bundeswehr Volkswagen 181, MADE in GERMANY with documented 36.000 (thirtysixthousand) miles.

I found this treasure on my last trip to Germany. It belonged to a private collector who bought it from the Bundeswehr in 2001 with 56.000 Kilometers (34.8k miles).
Obviously he had some good connections to the barracks where it came from, because he got the original "Geraetebegleitheft" , (Maintenance Book)  completely documenting the car's history, showing every service and verifying the low kilometers.

It has has a little metal flag on the front fender, and there are various military specific bags and utensils with this 181. The additional gasoline heater is also included but NOT connected.
There are also many manuals included, showing you how to operate and repair this vehicle. They are in German, so a good reason for you to brush up on your school German.....

Since this Thing came from a German area with a rather mild climate and it was not used very often, it has very little rust, mainly on one fender. There is NO rust at all in the floor boards.

Looking at the service history, it HAS to be mechanically excellent and it sure is. It starts with one turn of the key, shifts, steers and brakes perfectly and it has this wonderful healthy VW air cooled engine sound.
Engine and transmission are not leaking.

All lights work, even the tiny rear "undercover night lights". The windshield wiper has a mind of it's own and works only sometimes.

The top is still original and has one small tear. Seats are in perfect condition.

Since it is a 1974, believe it or not, it can even be registered in California, because it is smog exempt.

I will help with transportation, answer questions and send more pictures. Just let me know what you need.

VW Chattanooga plant very close to UAW representation

Tue, 11 Nov 2014

After months of fighting from both sides, it looks like the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, might unionize under the United Auto Workers after all. According to a letter acquired by The Associated Press, VW and the UAW reportedly struck a deal last spring where the union agreed to stop its challenge of the organization vote with the National Labor Relations Board to help clear the way for the CrossBlue to be produced in Tennessee. In exchange, the automaker would recognize the UAW at the plant. Leaders of the Local 42 at the facility reportedly signed the letter.
It seems that such an agreement would clear the way for the factory to unionize after months of dispute. According to The Detroit News, under Tennessee law, workers aren't required to join the organization. Although, that might not be a problem. As of a few months ago, Local 42 already claimed to have signed around 700 of the plant's roughly 1,500 workers.
Controversy has constantly swirled around the possible unionization at the Chattanooga plant. The UAW held its official decision in February and lost 712 to 626. However, there were allegations of intense political pressure to make sure the ballot failed. A later report also found that VW was offered $300 million in incentives well before the vote to make sure things progressed to the "satisfaction of the State of Tennessee," but the deal was later retracted. In July, the UAW opened Local 42 on the campus in hopes of signing up a majority of the workforce by volunteering to be a part of it.

Volkswagen to add 50k jobs by 2018

Thu, 04 Apr 2013

Volkswagen still has its eyes set on becoming the top global automaker by 2018, and to get there, it's apparently going to need more boots on the ground. Automotive News Europe is reporting that VW is looking to increase its staff by 50,000 over the next five years - an increase of nine percent - which does not include an increase in its US dealer network.
According to the report, a majority of the growth will come from China where the automaker is also looking to double its production capacity in the same time frame. The Volkswagen Group is already expected to rival General Motors for the top sales spot in China this year, and such a rapid expansion in the region could make a good springboard for sales increases in other countries.

Porsche board members facing another ˆ1.8B lawsuit over VW takeover bid

Mon, 03 Feb 2014

Back in 2008, Porsche got the bright idea that it could take over Volkswagen in the midst of the worst economic slump since the Great Depression. Ignoring that this was a catastrophic move for the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer that that eventually resulted in it nearly going bankrupt and eventually being taken over by the same company it sought to control, the aftermath has left Porsche Chairman Wolfgang Porsche and board member Ferdinand Piëch in the crosshairs of seven hedge funds that lost out during the takeover and are now seeking €1.8 billion - $2.43 billion US - in damages from the two execs, according to the BBC.
See, investors bet on Volkswagen's share price going down, partially because Porsche said it wasn't going to attempt a takeover. But Porsche was attempting to take over VW, having bought up nearly 75-percent of VW's publicly traded shares. When word broke that Porsche owned nearly three-quarters of VW (which indicated an imminent takeover attempt), rather than go down like the hedge funds bet it would, VW's share price skyrocketed to over 1,000 euros per share, according to Reuters.
Naturally, when you bet that a company's share price is going to drop and it in turn (temporarily) becomes the world's most valuable company, you lose a lot of money, unless you're able to buy up shares before prices jump too much. This led to a squeeze on the stock, which the hedge funds accuse Porsche and Piëch (who are both members of the Porsche family and supervisory board) of organizing.
