1974 Vw Thing -- Incredible Fun In The Sun - Daughter's Daily Driver! on 2040-cars
Pompano Beach, Florida, United States
Great Beach Cruiser seating four in style and comfort...
Good: Seatbelts installed on front and rear. Four Speed Manual Transmission shifts well. Brakes work great.. just tuned up by Mechanic. Roof Folds perfectly Tires in good condition. Blinkers work fine. Lights work fine. Marine Stereo (no radio by aux for phones etc) rocks! Marine Subwoofer under passenger seat. Flaws... One seat the fabric is peeling (replacement cover is included but not installed) Left front cylinder burns/drips oil -- we top oil up once every month or two. Reverse lights not attached - trans switch needs replace. Solenoid sticky if battery not fully charged. Paint is Marine Paint -- good and solid... inside and out (not engine compartment but in trunk)... Finish is fine for running around... received plaque at recent VW show... Not a "show car" finish... One single wiper... keep out of rain! Overall... just in the fun for the family! Spent incredible with family, daughter and wife, playing and restoring... Then "Thing: is truely a member of the family! FYI... High School Daughters daily driver... so I trust it! That said... we reserve the right to cancel as many people locally have expressed interest (great marketing car for beach shop!) Enjoy... Make Offers... Ask if you want different pictures. |

World Car Of The Year down to its final four
Wed, 13 Mar 2013
Judges for the World Car of the Year Award have narrowed down the finalists to just four vehicles. Out of a total of 42 entries, only the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT-86 and Volkswagen Golf remain standing. For Volkswagen, this marks the second consecutive year the company has had an entry among the finalists, and the fourth time since 2009. In order to qualify, a vehicle must be on sale on two continents during the span of time between January 1, 2013 and May 30, 2013. A panel of 66 journalists from 23 countries then vote on the finalists.
Three vehicles have made the cut for the last round of voting on the 2013 World Performance Car as well, with the Cayman/Boxster and FR-S/BRZ/GT-86 running against the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Meanwhile, the Renault Zoe, Tesla Model S and Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid are duking it out for the World Green Car Award. Finally, the World Car Design of the Year Award is up for grabs between the Aston Martin Vanquish, Jaguar F-Type, and the Mazda6. Check out the full press release below. Overall winners will be presented at the 2013 New York Auto Show.
VW reveals Outback-rivaling Golf Alltrack ahead of Paris
Wed, 24 Sep 2014The Volkswagen Passat Alltrack is getting a baby brother at this year's 2014 Paris Motor Show in the form of a new Golf Alltrack. Like its larger sibling, the little wagon is supposed to offer light-duty off-road driving ability combined with a more rugged look to show it off.
To give the Golf Alltrack that soft-road ability, VW is outfitting the wagon with its latest 4Motion all-wheel drive system from Haldex. The setup can decouple power from the rear-axle when not needed to save fuel. To further improve traction, the Alltrack gets VW's electronic differential lock, and the car can individually brake its inside wheel during hard cornering for better handling.
Volkswagen also wants the Alltrack to be able to visually show that it can handle getting away from the pavement, even though it starts life as a standard Golf wagon. That means jacking up the suspension an extra 0.75 inches and adding black moldings all the way around the car. There are also redesigned bumpers for the front and rear and silver underbody protection, plus new accents like anodized roof rails and silver mirror caps. The interior is essentially unchanged from the wagon, except for altered trim and Alltrack badges.
