Excellent running little car. Gets 42 - 46 MPG. Starts great - no smoke - uses no oil. It has been reconditioned but is just too small for a handicapped person. The following is a list of NEW A/C compressor and dryer, fan switch, front cv joints and axles, front brake pads, rear inner and outer wheel bearings, rear springs, 5 tires, radio, battery, belts and hoses, timing belt, anti freeze, mobil 1oil, new paint. It has a tow bar and reese hitch (to carry handicap cart) hard wired towing lights, chrome window rain shields. Seats are very good condition no stains or tears. Carpet is so-so. It has 201000 miles but a lot are towing miles. Not a show car body but works. There are some hail dents in the roof. Headliner is good, I reglued in the rear. the sunvisors are missing. The A/C is ice cold. It has a 5 speed manual transmission. No power steering but is easy to drive. There is a hatch in to rear that opens the trunk, with a panel to cover whats inside. The stereo is new with CD MP3 and Aux. There is NO RUST.

VW's Winterkorn tells 20,000 staffers of big cost-cutting plans

During a gathering of 20,000 Volkswagen Group employees at company headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany on Wednesday, CEO Martin Winterkorn dropped a bombshell. The boss stated that the automaker isn't operating efficiently enough and admitted the company needs to radically start cutting back to raise its profit margins. To right the ship, Winterkorn has proposed killing off less profitable models and spending less on research and development.
According to Reuters, Winterkorn wants to raise the VW brand's profit margin from about 2.9 percent in 2013 to a target of 6 percent. To make that possible, his plan amounts to increasing cost cutting until Volkswagen reaches about 5 billion euros ($6.7 billion) per year to get things back in order. "Over the short-term, we urgently need more efficiency and higher profit," the CEO said during his speech, according to Reuters.
However, Winterkorn can't make these decisions unilaterally. Volkswagen's works council also has a seat on the supervisory board to represent laborers, and it isn't likely to take the proposed cuts sitting down.

Car companies may need to start curbing model proliferation

Looking at the current automotive landscape, especially from German makers, you quickly get the impression that less definitely isn't more. BMW alone offers its 3 Series platform in practically every segment possible, including the regular sedan and 4 Series Gran Coupe, which would seem to be direct competitors. Porsche might be the winner, though, with 20 different variants of the 911 listed for sale on its US website. However, some of this model madness might be reaching an end as companies begin cutting back spending or shifting money to other priorities.
According to Yahoo Finance, the offerings from the German automakers are up 25 percent over the past three years to over 200 models in Europe. The peak is expected to come around 2018 at 230 separate vehicles, according to consulting company PwC.
Amazingly, BMW, which is among the poster children for this model explosion, might be changing its tune. "I'm sure there will be points in the future where we look at certain cars and say, 'Maybe we need to think differently now,'" said head of sales Ian Robertson in an interview, according to Yahoo Finance. The statement certainly sounds shocking coming from a company rumored to have 23 front-wheel-drive vehicles all using a single platform on the way.
