Up for sale my 1984 White and blue rabbit GTI. I bought the Car almost 3years ago after a 15 year stint in heated barn storage . Needless to say much work has been done to get running smoothly and California smog legal again. Replaced recently are :

The missing catyltic convertor
the fuel tank
the oxygen sensor
all the vacuum lines have been replaced and routed properly
the fuel system has been flushed all injectors disassembled and cleaned
The water pump and thermostat replaced cooling system flushed
the cap rotor wires plugs all new
new carpet installed
tires were new 3k miles ago
The right wheel bearing and cv shaft have both been replaced

The car appears stock on the outside other than being lowered slightly. The paint appears to be original small dings on the sides of the vehicle . There is a small dent on the right front fender and a small rust spot in right rear lower roll pan, The interior is very nice the dash id rate 9 out of ten. the seats 8 carpet again is new .The stock snowflake wheels are in very good condition

The aftermarket stuff :
Nuespeed throttle body
front and rear strut tower braces
lowering springs
k/n air filter in the stock air box
double down pipe header and complete techtonics exhaust

This is a nice car not perfect. it runs and drives great and looks good and is California smog legal !. Current mileage is 105,xxx
It is in better condition mechanically and body than the one I had in the ninties

Still needed :
rear hatch sticker needs to be replaced old one was removed because it was faded / cracked
headliner was sagging I cleaned shell off it needs to be recovered
rear wiper is arm is missing
rear seat door panels and shifter console are faded I was going to have them dyed when I got the headliner recovered.

Volkswagen to add 50k jobs by 2018

Thu, 04 Apr 2013

Volkswagen still has its eyes set on becoming the top global automaker by 2018, and to get there, it's apparently going to need more boots on the ground. Automotive News Europe is reporting that VW is looking to increase its staff by 50,000 over the next five years - an increase of nine percent - which does not include an increase in its US dealer network.
According to the report, a majority of the growth will come from China where the automaker is also looking to double its production capacity in the same time frame. The Volkswagen Group is already expected to rival General Motors for the top sales spot in China this year, and such a rapid expansion in the region could make a good springboard for sales increases in other countries.

VW readying new VR6 with forced induction

Fri, 27 Sep 2013

Volkswagen built a stonking, narrow-angle V6 in the 1980s and 1990s that was found in three different generations of the Golf (their performance iterations, obviously), three generations of the Passat, the New Beetle, the Corrado and the Touareg, among other VWs, a spate of Audis, Seats, a Skoda, and even the Porsche Cayenne. It was a sad day when it was announced that it'd be put out to pasture.
Rejoice, though, fans of the venerable VR6, because Volkswagen has a new, modern variant in the works that, according to AutoWeek, features direct injection and can easily be fitted with forced induction. In fact, AW mentions Volkswagen insiders that claim this unit will spawn a production version of the twin-turbo V6 shown on the Design Vision GTI from this year's Wörthersee festival. That unit produced an epic 503 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque.
Don't expect a production unit with that level of power (although it would make a hardy RS4 powerplant), though. In reality, AutoWeek is suspecting anywhere from 340 to 450 horsepower from the new mill. When it arrives at an undisclosed date in the future, it'll likely be found in the Passat and Passat CC as well as the production version of the CrossBlue.

This Or That: 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro vs. 1987 Land Rover Defender [w/poll]

Thu, 13 Nov 2014

As I scoured auction sites and classified ads for the perfect vehicle to take into battle with Autoblog Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, I knew I needed to find something unique. You see, I'm currently 0-2 at winning a round of This or That, in which two of our editors agree on a category, choose a side, and argue it out over a (mostly) friendly chain of emails.
The first time we did this, my chosen Fiat 500 Abarth took about a third of the popular vote in our reader poll. The second time, my lovely 1980 Oldsmobile 442 did just a little bit better against a 1989 BMW 635 CSi. Despite holding the opinion that my automotive choices, though perhaps a little bit more... obscure than my fellow editors, are still better, an outright win would go a long way toward boosting my vehicular self worth a few notches upward.
With all of that out of the way, even if three isn't my lucky number after all, I go into battle against Brandon knowing full well that I've made the perfect choice: A 1987 Volkswagen Vanagon Syncro. My rough-and-tumble van/'ute has a formidable opponent in the form of a 1987 Land Rover Defender, which, truth be told, is exactly what I was expecting from Turkus, a self-proclaimed Rover aficionado.
