This is a 1983 VW Rabbit. 1.6L diesel and 5 speed manual will get you about 45+ mpg. This is a 31 year old car- no frills, power nothing, but it gets better mileage than a Prius LOL! Comes with 1 key, a spare in trunk, second spare rim (if I can find it), 5 VW hubcaps, jack, wrench, new repair manual. Here is a list of what I've replaced since I bought it

- new tires

- new battery

- new starter

- new alternator

- new brake master cylinder

- new front calipers, rotors, pads, bearings, and struts

- new AM/FM/CD ipod and USB charger port radio, 4 new speakers

- I bought a new timing belt and tensioner from VW (about $180) with the plan to replace it just for preventative maintenance. Never got around to it, but it goes with the car if you wanna swap it out.

What needs mentioning or attention;

- I parked it for a bout a month after I got another car. Since it wasn't run, an injector pump seal dried up and now the pump leaks. Shouldn't be hard to replace, but every morning it takes excessive cranking to build up prime again. But once it starts, you're good to go for the rest of the day. She fires right up!

- I replaced the oil pan gasket only to find it was the front crank seal that was leaking. Not a lot, but a few drops here and there. I have a new seal that goes with the car.

- The odometer stopped working about a month before I parked it. My guess it actually has about 171,500 miles on it or so. I'm pretty sure it's a small plastic gear in the dash- a new gear can be bought online for about $15-25 dollars

- The headliner is hanging (given for a 31 year old car)

- The interior could use a carpet and seat cleaning (coffee stains) but it's not "nasty" lol.

- I painted it with Pep Boys paint using a HVLP air gun. I am a certified aircraft painter, but it's Pep Boys paint- so it looks better than the old baby blue it was, but not new.

- Minimal small rust spots coming through the paint, but no bad spots eating through that I've seen.

Like I said, it ain't perfect but it's a real cute, cool, "classic" of the 80's. My wife is making me sell it (friggin Kiljoy) but I guess I don't really need it anymore.

SHIPPING- should you decide to buy it w/o coming in person, I am a legal transporter and can deliver anywhere (my truck can fit) in California for only 75 cents a mile. If you hire someone else to get it, be forewarned uship has a LOT of illegal transporters on there, and I will not release it to someone who can't play by the same rules as me, so please ensure you hire the right person.

If you have any questions or concerns, by all means please feel free to call me at 949-616-0210

2014 VW Golf brings storied hatchback's seventh generation to US

Wed, 27 Mar 2013

The seventh-generation Volkswagen Golf in US-specification officially debuts at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The new model is the first VW in the States to ride on the company's MQB architecture, and as such, it makes use of plenty of high-strength and ultra-high-strength steel to keep weight down. All told, the new shell is 51 pounds lighter than the outgoing generation, despite the fact that the finished car is a full 2.2 inches longer and .5 inches wider than the 2013 model.
Buyers can expect to find a base model powered by a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine (blue car above) with 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. That means the powerplant delivers the same horsepower as the old naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder while weighing less and producing seven extra pound-feet of torque. TDI (silver car above) buyers, meanwhile, will enjoy a new 2.0-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder mill. VW says the engine yields 10 more horsepower than the old lump, which means the Golf TDI now boasts 150 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque.
GTI (red car above) buyers will now get their hands on a revised 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with approximately 210 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque - Volkswagen hasn't finalized power numbers for that machine. We're happy to see that the GTI still features its trademark plaid seats. Volkswagen says the new Golf and GTI will go on sale as a 2015 model, but doesn't say when the car will actually hit dealerships.

Volkswagen looking to acquire Proton, Lotus?

Thu, 26 Jul 2012

Let's say you're an automaker bent on world domination looking to grow your sales. That's going to have you looking at Asian markets, because that's where some of the biggest growth has been, and that's exactly what Volkswagen is doing as it considers making another run at Malaysia's Proton.
Reuters reports that Volkswagen is interested in at least a partial stake, if not a controlling interest in Lotus-parent Proton as a way to continue a production presence in the region without having to build its own factory.
Volkswagen already builds the Passat in a DRB-HICOM facility in Pekan, Malaysia, and plans are in place to build the Jetta and Polo there, as well. With both southeast Asia and its relationship with Proton figuring so importantly in Volkswagen's plans for expansion, buying into Proton can help ensure stability. Volkswagen is being tight-lipped about the whole idea, but CEO Martin Winterkorn did recently say, "it's our clear goal to continue the successful (expansion) course of past years with great dynamics and stability," which sounds an awful lot like deals are on the table to smooth the path to further growth.

TN politicians may push to end VW incentives if plant goes union

Tue, 11 Feb 2014

Volkswagen's Chattanooga Assembly Plant is scheduled to vote on whether to unionize in the coming days, but Tennessee state lawmakers are threatening to deny future tax subsidies to the factory, if the vote is successful. The factory is currently the only Volkswagen plant worldwide that is not unionized.
The states's Republican lawmakers have been particularly vocal against the union vote. Tennessee state senator Bo Watson said during a press conference that VW would have a "very tough time" with future incentives if the vote were successful, according to Automotive News. Tennessee House Majority Leader Gerald McCormick said the "heavy hand" of the UAW is not welcome there. VW has drawn criticism from both sides because it has allowed both pro- and anti-union groups to speak to workers and hand out leaflets.
Roughly 1,500 factory employees will vote on whether to unionize from February 12-14. If successful, the Chattanooga factory would be the first in the US organized under a German-style works council system where white- and blue-collar workers directly negotiate factory issues with the company's management.
