1981 Vw Rabbit Diesel Pickup Truck on 2040-cars

Year:1981 Mileage:251000
Location:

Florence, Alabama, United States

Florence, Alabama, United States

This auction is for a 1981 VW Rabbit pickup truck.  It has a 1.6 liter diesel engine with a 5 speed manual transmission.  It drives very good to be a 33 year old truck. I have addressed and repaired almost all of the rust issues. Floor pan on driver's side, rocker panel on driver's side, and all other visible rust spots have been repaired and if not painted then it has been undercoated.  Previous owner had engine work done on the head.  I have completely painted the outside of the truck and the inside door panels, truck bed and completely undercoated the chassis. My mechanic has done the following:  new head gaskets, adjusted the timing, all belts replaced, all new hoses, rebuilt injection pump (Bosch), installed new brake lines (made need a new vacuum pump in the very near future), installed new emergency brake cables, new battery, rebuilt starter, rebuilt alternator (Bosch), and have installed a new clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing.  All brakes have been rebuilt..  I have driven the truck approximately 1000 miles with no smoke and good fuel mileage - 35 to 40 mpg if driven the speed limit (50 mpg if careful but no guarantee for a 33 year old truck).  The 50 mpg is a EPA estimate in 1981 by VW, not me. If taken care of this truck will last a long time. The tires have 75 to 85% left on them.  Most everything works but some minor things do not (remember - used truck.) I have an Alabama vintage tag which goes with the truck.  This qualifies for historical discount on your auto insurance. Please feel free to call or text me (Murphree) at 256-366-1761. No warranty is expressed or implied.  Truck is sold as is and where it is. $500 deposit at the end of the bidding.  Customer must pick up in Florence, Alabama within 7 days after bid ends. Balance to be paid in cash.

Volkswagen's De Silva says next Scirocco will be 'completely different'

Tue, 02 Apr 2013

From our perspective, the reborn Volkswagen Scirocco is a handsome (if squat) little thing. Yet design-wise, it's always struck us as uncomfortably close to the Golf three-door hatchback with which it shares its basic underpinnings. That aesthetic kinship may be part of the reason why Volkswagen has steadfastly refused to import the Scirocco to North America, seeing as how the Golf doesn't regularly set the company's sales charts alight, and it's less expensive.
But that visual similarity might be about to change, says Walter De Silva, who recently told Australia's Car Advice that, "It must be completely different... we don't want to repeat the bodystyle of the Scirocco, we want to change that." Further, the Volkswagen Group's design boss says that the next-generation car isn't terribly far along in development yet - "at the moment, it's only a studio [project]... it's not defined." It's probably just as well, as the new seventh-generation Golf arguably borrows some of its design from the current Scirocco anyway.
So we should expect a much bolder, more differentiated design, right? Well, yes, no and maybe. Back in September, De Silva himself was quoted as saying that the era of flamboyant styling has passed, and that future VW designs will be simpler to better reflect the times and preserve resale value. So... how different could it be?

UAW angered over VW workers getting right to defend anti-union vote

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

The United Auto Workers have called a decision by the National Labor Relations Board allowing anti-UAW employees at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga the right to defend voting down unionization at the plant "an outrage."
You'll recall that the union was defeated by a vote of 712 to 626 in a contentious February election. The UAW claims the outcome was unfairly swayed by pro-business, anti-union forces, including Senator Bob Corker and political advocate Grover Norquist.
This new decision by the NLRB essentially gives workers backed by the anti-UAW National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation and Southern Momentum a formal voice in the impending hearing on the UAW's appeal of the vote.

VW makes $23K on every Porsche sold, more than Bentley or Lamborghini

Fri, 14 Mar 2014

It's a good time to be in the luxury car business. In Volkswagen Group's financial report for the 2013 fiscal year, it is revealed that that Porsche enjoyed an operating margin of 18 percent. That means the Stuttgart brand made on average about $23,200 per car sold, according to BusinessWeek. Bentley wasn't far behind, and Audi (which was combined with Lamborghini) posted a 10.1 percent margin. This compares to only around 2.9 percent for the Volkswagen brand.
"Luxury brands are on fire," said Dave Sullivan, an industry analyst at AutoPacific. He said that the average profit margin is between six and eight percent. Brands like Porsche and Bentley have the benefit of competing in rarefied markets. Buyers looking at one their vehicles have fewer models to shop against and don't care as much about price. They can also charge more for options, which further boosts income, according to BusinessWeek.
In a way, we should be more impressed by the continued success from Audi. Its models generally have direct competitors in every segment from the other premium automakers. Plus, their buyers aren't the captains of industry who are shopping for a Bentley. Still, the Four Rings is leading rivals in sales so far this year.
