1969 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. Originally imported from Germany to Hawaii, made it's way to California and finally the east coast. That being said the car has no rust issues, and any major points of potential concern have been repaired and patched. The 1969 model of the Karmann Ghia was the last year of the desired smaller tail lights, and the first year of the independent rear suspension.

The vehicle was originally manilla yellow, restored back in 2003 where it was repainted chrome blue, and restored again in 2013 by my mechanics.

In the past year:
New 1776cc Engine with less than 500 miles on it. Engine is strong pulls easily to 75+MPH on the highway.

New Interior including dash pads, seats, headliner, door cards, door handles etc. (just needs some minor trim pieces)

-New Disc Brakes, Rotors, and tires,
-Freshly rebuilt 1776cc engine featuring dual carbs...Pulls strong!
-Rebuilt Transmission
-Electrically the car has a functioning stereo, lights, wipers, a 4- way flasher needs to be replaced to get the horn working again.

Body:
-The body is 99% rust free.
-There is a dent on the driver side door
-Some superficial rust on the engine lid vents, door sills, and rain sills,
-Rockers, Panels, Floorpan, Nose Solid.
-Evidence of previous bondo work on the doors and rear.
-Paint is a 5- footer. Daily driver. I have provided pictures of trouble areas to be as accurate as possible

Interior:
New door cards, seats headliner, and dash pad. Minor trim missing here and there.

Summary:
All in all this car is a great daily driver. Mechanically it is all new, and needs just a little TLC to be complete. This is a great car to work on here an there on the weekends and still be able to drive.

VW updates Scirocco with revised styling, new engines

Sun, 16 Feb 2014

The Scirocco is undoubtedly one of the better-looking models in the Volkswagen lineup, but introduced back in 2008, it's now been on the market - some markets, anyway - for the better part of six years. VW is said to have an all-new replacement in the works, but before that arrives, the German automaker has announced a facelifted version with revised styling and a new engine lineup.
Set to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the new Scirocco benefits from updated styling front and rear, high-tech exterior lighting, a revised cabin space with some throwback retro touches, some new technologies and, of course, an array of fresh wheel options ranging from 17 to 19 inches.
The updated Scirocco will be offered with a wide array of engines right from the get-go, including four gasoline options and two diesels, spanning from 125 horsepower all the way up to the 280-hp Scirocco R. The 2014 model hits European showrooms in August, but unfortunately isn't any more likely to make the transatlantic voyage Stateside than the version it replaces. Still interested? There's plenty to see in the high-res image gallery above and details in the press release below.

Prop-driven VW Beetle hopes to land in Bonneville [w/video]

Thu, 10 Jan 2013

Sometimes you meet folks who, when they tell you "Hey, I have an idea," your reflex response is to stop what you're doing and tell yourself, "Get ready...." We imagine Mike Niemans is one of those folks, and the idea in question is putting a tank engine on a Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle. Not just any old tank engine - as if there were such a thing when we're talking about putting them in cars - but a 668-cubic-inch, 220-horsepower radial engine built by Continental in 1941 and procured from an M2 tank.
In the image above Nieman is using the tank clutch hub to get the motor set up, but in one of the images below you can see what really belongs back there is: a two-inch, reverse-pitch prop taken from a wind generator. He says there's enough mojo with the propeller action to get the car rolling down the runway like a jet when he gives it gas - and speaking of gas, the engine's been refitted to run on propane.
After a few safety tweaks Nieman's going to take the matte-black Beetle to Bonneville, "put the prop on, let her go and see what happens!" We can't wait to see the video of that. There are two shakedown videos below to get you ready.

Volkswagen CrossBlue previews a three-row future, diesel-hybrid power [w/video]

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

Volkswagen looks to be getting ready to jump into the large three-row crossover game. The automaker has officially pulled back the curtain on the CrossBlue Concept at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show.
Designers and engineers penned the machine specifically for the Canadian and US markets, and with a plug-in diesel electric hybrid drivetrain, the hulking five-door, at least in concept form, should offer substantially better efficiency than anything else on the market. The drivetrain pairs a 2.0-liter turbo diesel four-cylinder engine with two electric motors for a combined output of 305 horsepower and a ludicrous 516 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed dual-clutch gearbox handles shifting detail, while one electric motor spins the front wheels. The second motor spins the back axle independently, make the CrossBlue a through-the-road hybrid.
As a result, the crossover can pop to 60 mph in 7.2 seconds. Perhaps more impressively, the CrossBlue can whir around on all-electric propulsion for up to 14 miles at up to 75 mph. Once the diesel four kicks in, the drivetrain can yield up to 39 mpg, though Volkswagen says the hardware can hit 89 MPGe on a full charge thanks to a 9.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Check out the full press release below for more information.
