1968 Karmann Ghia An Absolute Masterpiece !! on 2040-cars

What a masterpiece. Ferdinand Porsche and Carozzeria Ghia teamed up too create the best of both worlds. A brilliantly Italian designed body coupled with German drive train and suspension. The drive train is the same as the classic beetle which is easy to maintain and low cost for any repairs. Say that with any other classic sports car. The vehicle you are about to view is of the older body style with the elegant chrome bumpers and the old cateye rear brake lights, notice to the stock rear backup lights which are so often times missing on these cars. Keep in mind when considering this car how rare they are becoming, especially the convertibles. This car will be a sound investment for the future, while having a ball driving it today.   Now some specifics on the full restoration that was started in July 1993 and finished April 1994 in Tampa Florida. The car was treated to a complete pan off professional restoration. The car was first acid dipped and all traces of rust and rot removed and repaired, every moving part, nut and bolt, and trim was finished and replaced. The rear had been damaged by the battery acid eating thru the engine compartment so the entire rear clip was replaced. The battery has been moved to underneath the rear seat. A new soft top ,headliner and front bow lock mechanism were installed and are still perfect to this day. Rear plastic window is still clear! The rockers were replaced along with full length pans on the left and right side. Even though you cannot see it there is new carpet in the trunk.  I removed it so you could see the new gas tank which also had a new sending unit installed. All glass including the windshield and door glass are perfect, no hazing or chips. The dash pad is perfect with no cracks or splits.  The car was used as a daily driver for a year , and then used sparingly as a weekend toy. The 14495 miles on the odometer are the actual miles since the restoration. The car was fitted with a 1776 cc motor after restoration and siezed at 12000 miles. A brand new 1600cc longblock was purchased from JBugs in 2009 and was fitted with a Weber progressive 2 barrel carb, a new SVDA distributor, only 2500 miles on this engine and it runs great! A new empi shifter with reverse lockout was added as well. New tires and new chrome wheels were added in 2009 and are the correct size. A new chrome spare wheel with new tire is also included, with jack, lug wrench, spare fan belts. As with any 20 year restoration the car is not concourse perfect. From 5 feet away the British Racing Green paint is stunning with a shine only a wet sanded finish can provide. On closer inspection, you can find a few spots that have started to bubble near the gas filler door (not caused by rust). There is NO rust on the car. The car was undercoated when restored, and even the underside looks good. Before the paint was applied the interior of  the pans were sprayed with ziebart,  then paint applied, the inside of the trunk received the same treatment. Every wire, fuse block, from front to back were replaced. All gauges were replaced and all working properly even the clock.  The interior is nearly perfect. The seats were purchased from Sewfine, along with the matching materials for the door panels. The top is also nearly perfect, with a very clear rear window. The radio is just something from walmart with pioneer speakers and a small amp behind the dash , but the dash was not cut in any way to install it. It's configured to work with an ipod shuffle and is included. There is no ac, power steering, navigation, but it does have a cool fan shown in the pictures for when you are stopped in traffic. It also has seat belts for the front passengers. Real people don't fit in the back anyway. The car has always been garaged since the restoration was completed. The car is located in SW Virginia in the town of Tazewell. If you are close by and want to inspect the car email me thru ebay and schedule an appt. If you have questions ask I will respond promptly.Good luck bidding but only bid what you can afford. The winning bidder will be required to pay a 500.00 non refundable deposit through paypal and pay the balance in 7 days by cashiers check or cash..thanks and enjoy the auction.

VW promises 7-seat CUV for America in 2016

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

On the eve of the Detroit Auto Show, Volkswagen chief executive Martin Winterkorn has confirmed the imminent arrival of a new crossover. The model, previewed at the same show last year by the CrossBlue concept pictured here, will be unique to the North American market when it arrives here in 2016. The new three-row, seven-seat crossover is part of an ambitious expansion plan on the part of Volkswagen and Audi in North America, where the two brands aim to sell a million vehicles by 2018.
That's a mighty big increase over the 600,000 vehicles which the Volkswagen Group sold here last year, but it's moving in the right direction: That number is already a 100-percent increase of what it sold here just five years ago. At that rate, VW should have little trouble meeting its goals, particularly with the arrival of the new crossover and the introduction of Golf production at its assembly plant in Puebla, Mexico. Former Porsche boss Wiedeking won't face criminal charges over VW bid

Mon, 28 Apr 2014

Hedge fund managers have been suing Porsche for years now, alleging that the car company lied about its intentions during its failed attempt to take over Volkswagen, a gambit that caused them billion in losses. Over the same period, authorities in Stuttgart built a criminal case against former CEO Wendelin Wiedeking (above, left) and Chief Financial Officer Holger Härter (right), filing charges in December 2012. When those fund plaintiffs lost their most recent court case, one of the dimming lights in the dark and receding tunnel was that the criminal investigation might unearth more evidence about Porsche's actions that could help the plaintiffs in pending litigation.
Bloomberg reports that another light has gone out, though, with a Stuttgart court dismissing the market manipulation case before going to trial because, as a court spokesperson said, "there wasn't enough evidence backing up the charges." When prosecutors get the files back from the court, they have a week to decide to refile, but unless they've been sandbagging evidence that could bolster the case, the only lights at the end of the tunnel will be those welcoming Wiedeking and Härter back to the world of legally unencumbered men.

GM outsold VW globaly in first quarter, Toyota reports numbers next week

Thu, 18 Apr 2013

General Motors released its first quarter sales figures this week, reporting that it sold 2.36 million cars and trucks worldwide. That figure represents an increase of 3.6 percent when compared to the same period last year. GM's growth was attributed to many factors, including global Cadillac sales that were up 26 percent and Chevrolet posting a one percent increase over last year (this marked Chevy's tenth straight year of record global sales).
Volkswagen came in just behind GM, as the German automaker reported global sales from January through March at 2.27 million vehicles, an increase of five percent when compared to last year. While that number was strong, VW is cautioning that markets outside China and the US, such as those in Europe, are becoming a challenge as economies falter.
Yet to report sales is Toyota, current holder of the global world sales crown (the Japanese company sold 9.75 million cars last year, against 9.29 million sold by GM and 9.1 million vehicles sold by VW). Even though GM and Toyota both say they don't care who sells the most units, it is unquestionably a strong bragging point and sales equate to revenue. That said, Toyota will report its first quarter numbers next week.
