2001 Volkswagen Jetta 1.8T Wolfsburg Edition
170,000 Miles, 5 speed manual transmission
Located in Brewster, NY - Sold AS IS!

I'm the original owner of this car, and it's been sitting around since November when I bought a new car.  She starts up for me every week and I take her for a spin on the highway for a few miles and back.  Major repairs that I recall include a new clutch @ 140k, and a timing chain controller about 2 years ago (this was expensive). In the last year I had some exhaust work done and an o2 sensor replaced to pass inspection.  She blew a coil pack on me last november which was replaced, but meh, I decided to replace her.  The car runs fine, bring your plates and drive her home!

Great for:
College Kid Crowd - Great gas mileage for those long journeys to Buffalo & Oswego etc.
Commuters/Train Station People - She's cheap on the wallet and always starts up in the cold.
Gearheads - Stock Wolfsburg, Germany built 1.8 turbo 4 is quick and easy to upgrade.
Newbs - Learn to drive stick this summer and impress the girls!

Here's a list of items and issues that come to mind with this car:
The Good:
- The engine still runs strong at 170k miles and the turbo is healthy. Acceleration is quick and has no problems driving in left lanes.
- It's very reliable. It has always started for me. I did have to replace the alternator once, but I simply pushed it down a hill to get it started that day.
- I put a Kenwood CD/USB receiver in a few years ago. It sounds pretty good but I still have the OEM cassette deck if you want it.
- Gas mileage is around 30mpg.

The Bad:
- Those lights on the dashboard pic have been lit for a few years now. The car passes inspection without a problem.
- The cruise control doesn't work. I think because of the lights mentioned above.
- The ebrake is inconsistent and thus unreliable for use on steep hills. It's fine for non-steep hills when also leaving the car in gear. I keep getting it tightened but i guess it needs better fixing.
- The sunroof electronics are broken. I like my sunroof and used it a lot. Then it just stopped working one day. I guess this is common because VW includes a handy allen wrench in the car so you can open/close it manually!
- When the car is parked on an incline and it rains really hard there is a leak somewhere over the gas/brake pedals.  I had the drains cleaned once, but it didnt seem to help, so I put a small bucket under the pedals if i'm parking on a hill and it's gonna rain.
- There is a small coolant leak.  I'm not sure of the source but it seems to have started since I've not been driving her much.
- The tires seem to loose air a bit.  You will want to get this checked out.  The tires are not punctured, but the rims are a bit corroded.  I've keep a small air compressor in the glove box.
- Alignment is a bit wonky, might need new front tires.  Rear tires are still fine.  Michelins too.

The Ugly:
- The interior is pretty haggard. It's been on a lot of long trips and things like the glove box latch and arm rest are broken (you can still open the glove box, not to worry).
- The front driver side spoiler is cracked a bit. I never got around to repairing this, you could fix it or just pull the thing off.
- The front hood has some paint chips.

**Please note** My apologies but I am not a mechanic.  I am just a regular guy selling his car and looking for an easy transaction.  I am providing as much information as I can so that you can make an informed and educated buying decision.  I have listed what I know to be wrong with the car.  It's possible there are other things wrong that I'm not aware of.  I highly suggest all bidders see the car in person beforhand.  I am also happy to let your mechanic check it out if they are close.  The car is sold AS IS, and no warranty if offered.

UAW angered over VW workers getting right to defend anti-union vote

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

The United Auto Workers have called a decision by the National Labor Relations Board allowing anti-UAW employees at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga the right to defend voting down unionization at the plant "an outrage."
You'll recall that the union was defeated by a vote of 712 to 626 in a contentious February election. The UAW claims the outcome was unfairly swayed by pro-business, anti-union forces, including Senator Bob Corker and political advocate Grover Norquist.
This new decision by the NLRB essentially gives workers backed by the anti-UAW National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation and Southern Momentum a formal voice in the impending hearing on the UAW's appeal of the vote.

VW readying CC Shooting Brake?

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

This was bound to happen. Volkswagen's relentless drive for big volume has the brand mining seemingly every niche it can find for additional sales worldwide. And with its CLS Shooting Brake, fellow countryman Mercedes-Benz has already shown that a wagon based off of a "four-door coupe" can look dead sexy and command extra dollars. So it follows that the Volkswagen CC (whose existence is all but directly attributable to the success of the original CLS sedan) will also get a load-lugging variant. That's according to the UK's Autocar, which notes that the five-door will come in the CC's next generation.
According to the report, the next CC will be available in front and all-wheel drive variants with the usual assortment of gas and diesel four-cylinders found in the Wolfsburg empire, with the possibility of a gas plug-in hybrid model, too. The rakish estate will ride atop VW's MQB architecture, a shorter variant of which is also found underneath the new Golf. The scalable chassis is set to spread like kudzu throughout the company's lineup, but the CC probably won't happen until after the launch of the next European-market Passat in 2015.
Will we get it in North America? Hard to say. Volkswagen sells the standard CC saloon here, but not in particularly large numbers, and when the company moved to a North American-specific Passat, it dumped the wagon variant. The traditional VW estate apparently continues to pick up sales momentum abroad, however, making the CC Shooting Brake a seemingly natural fit for buyers who still want the utility of a two-box form but can afford to sacrifice a bit of cargo room in the name of style.

New VW Beetle Convertible ad needs no disguise

Mon, 18 Feb 2013

Convertibles make you do funny things. Ask someone if they'd drive a hardtop in near freezing temperatures with all the windows down and they might not even answer, thinking the question so ridiculous. Give that same person a convertible they love and you might just have to ask them to please put the top up even when snow is on the ground.
That guy has to take precautions to enjoy his proclivities, and as this new ad for the Volkswagen Beetle Convertible shows, not everyone understands. Have a watch below, and note that there's just one woman in the minute-long spot, and she's nowhere near the car. Seriously, why didn't VW run this commercial during the Super Bowl?
