This TDI served me well for over 2 years but it is time for it to go now that I am not driving such long distances to work.
Motor has some upgrades. This is what the previous owner said he did to it:
"Stage 2 computer program - Fuel injector spray nozzle upgrade - Stage 3 durable clutch replacement with a solid extremely lightweight flywheel done at 158,000mi "
The body kit gives it a nice look but the front and back bottom parts have been cut off due to cracking. (see pics)
Here is what the previous owner said about the air box and the hood scoop:
"Hood with a custom air intake scoop, the hood scoop came directly out of Mark Martin's NASCAR he wrecked at Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord, NC and molded into the hood - Custom handmade aluminum airbox"
Has 18" Sitka Wheels, Tires have less than 10,000 miles on them.
New timing belt, tensioner, rollers, and water pump installed at 217,000 miles
Newer motor mounts (all three)
Had new brakes all around at about 220,000 miles
Always used Rotella T6 motor oil
AC blows cold
Has trailer hitch (I pulled a canoe on a trailer)
The bad things:
Headliner is staring to sag
Front and rear bumper lower fiberglass parts cut off due to cracking
Rear bumper has a small crack/hole in it on the driver's side
CD player works but is not fully seated in its slot. (probably an easy fix but I haven't tried)
Exhaust pipe weld broke and exhaust hangs down right under the front seats. (see pic) Sounds pretty good this way and does not drag. Should be an easy fix.
Paint clear coat is starting to peel
Power locks on the front doors do not work (The passenger door can be locked and unlocked by hand; the driver door has to be closed to lock it by hand)
Paint is starting to crack around the hood scoop seam on the hood
Throwout bearing is starting to make some noise
Solid fly wheel causes some vibration when motor is under torque
Cruise control does not work
Please ask any questions you have.

Porsche-Piech buy 10% stake in VW's holding company
Tue, 18 Jun 2013In August, 2009, as the scuttled merger of Porsche and Volkswagen had gone bad and Porsche was backed up against the ropes, Porsche Automobil Holding SE (PAHSE) relinquished a ten-percent stake in itself to Qatar Holdings as well as options it held on 17 percent of VW shares. The sale meant that, for the first time since the founding of the company 61 years before, an entity outside the Porsche and Piech families had a say in the running of PAHSE.
Buying that ten-percent stake back returns full ownership to the two families, the holding company's sole possession being ownership of 50.7 percent of VW's common shares. The price paid wasn't disclosed, but at market rates the purchase would be worth close to $1.25 billion. Qatar intends to hold onto the 17-percent stake it has in Volkswagen.
Porsche 911 with VW turbodiesel prepares for LeMons assault
Fri, 21 Mar 2014LeMons racing is a wonderful example that setting limits can actually breed creativity. The series mandates that all entries must cost $500, not counting safety equipment, and that cap forces teams to be ingenious in how they build a racecar. Take for example this diesel-powered Porsche 911, which its creators have dubbed Ferkel the Nein-11, that will be racing in the Sears Pointless race this weekend in Sonoma, California.
This Frankenstein combines a 911 chassis that was originally bought just for its European powertrain and a Volkswagen TDI diesel engine mounted in the rear. After deciding the shell could still be of some use, the team decided to go racing. "We began brainstorming what replacement drivetrain to use for maximum offense and there was really only one answer: a diesel," said Philipp von Weitershausen, one of the team captains, to Jalopnik. They bought a 1998 Jetta TDI on the cheap and started figuring out a way to hack the engine into the bay. To pay respect to the donor, the VW's trunk was highly modified (and drilled) and grafted onto the back of Ferkel.
This team isn't a newcomer to LeMons. Its last car was a classic VW Beetle with a Subaru engine and dual controls, named Ferdinand the Bug, which could be driven from the left or right side. It's quite a sight.
Volkswagen looking to acquire Proton, Lotus?
Thu, 26 Jul 2012Let's say you're an automaker bent on world domination looking to grow your sales. That's going to have you looking at Asian markets, because that's where some of the biggest growth has been, and that's exactly what Volkswagen is doing as it considers making another run at Malaysia's Proton.
Reuters reports that Volkswagen is interested in at least a partial stake, if not a controlling interest in Lotus-parent Proton as a way to continue a production presence in the region without having to build its own factory.
Volkswagen already builds the Passat in a DRB-HICOM facility in Pekan, Malaysia, and plans are in place to build the Jetta and Polo there, as well. With both southeast Asia and its relationship with Proton figuring so importantly in Volkswagen's plans for expansion, buying into Proton can help ensure stability. Volkswagen is being tight-lipped about the whole idea, but CEO Martin Winterkorn did recently say, "it's our clear goal to continue the successful (expansion) course of past years with great dynamics and stability," which sounds an awful lot like deals are on the table to smooth the path to further growth.
