I have a 1992 Jetta for sale. I have driven this car for the last seven years and put on 120,000. Recently it started to get oil in the coolant which is a sign that the head gasket is leaking so I decided to replace the head gasket. While removing the head bolts, two of them snapped. I got the head off but the bolts are still in the block and will have to be drilled out. Because I drive this to work every day, 80 miles round trip, I kept it maintained fairly well. It has good tires, the glow plugs were replaced in 2012 for last winter, the front and rear struts were replaced, the right side inner and outer tie rods, the left side outer tie rod, both lower ball joints, and the front end aligned within the last 20,000 miles. It tracks straight. The exhaust system is new from the header pipe to the tailpipe. The new header pipe does not have a catalytic converter in it.  Most of the mileage I put on this car is on I-95 going to the airport. The injector pump was replaced 2 years ago. Within the last 10K miles I replaced the 4 injectors and the fuel tubes from the injector pump to the injectors.(all new, nothing used or rebuilt) Since the head is off you can view the valves and top of the pistons to see that there is no damage. The car has over 300K miles and although it ran good when I started this, I considered popping out the pistons and re ringing them. Half the work is done and it would zero time the engine. If you are not familiar with the Eco turbo diesels, as I was not when I bought this car, in 1992 there were only 52 of them made and of those only 47 were sold before they switched the line over to start making the newer MK3's.  In 1992 when the last one came off the line they were already rarer that a '57 T-Bird.
Check out the history of the 1991 and 1992 Eco Turbo Diesels at http://www.oocities.org/vwecodiesel/overview.htm

There are engine blocks on ebay for $250 for anyone that has the energy to re ring the pistons, you could have a zero time short block.

Audi CVT suit settlement given green light, 64,000 cars covered

Mon, 07 Oct 2013

Audi drivers, listen up. If you bought or leased a 2002-06 model-year A4 or A6 with a factory-installed Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that failed, you may be entitled to reimbursement under a recently settled class-action lawsuit with corporate parent Volkswagen.
According to Automotive News, the settlement covers about 64,000 vehicles and alleges that "manufacturing and design problems caused the transmissions to fail and left owners stuck with repair costs." While the suit also argues Audi was aware of these issues (going so far as to hide that knowledge from consumers), the settlement stops short of acknowledging any wrongdoing by the German automaker.
Audi drivers are eligible for a cash reimbursement if their CVT repairs occurred within 10 years or 100,000 miles of the date they bought or leased the vehicle before June 19, 2013. To be eligible for compensation, drivers must submit a claim form (found here) with supporting documents by November 18.

Volkswagen Group previews its wares on eve of Geneva show

Mon, 05 Mar 2012

The Volkswagen Group is comprised of 11 brands producing 240 vehicles across 49 factories throughout the world. So the best way to show off the range of the VW family is to cram a few thousand journalists and VIPs into a massive makeshift stand to outline the Group's goals, what's in the pipeline and what you'll be able to buy later this year.
To that end, VW pulled out all the stops on the eve of the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, bringing along 10 vehicles from across the range. We'll be delving into the details of each over the next two days of show coverage, but before that happens, you can read all about what we saw tonight from the cheap seats after the break.

2014 Volkswagen XL1 [w/video]

World's Most Efficient Car Impresses, Not Without Compromises
Among our many duties at the recent Geneva Motor Show, we were offered a pretty exclusive drive in the new Volkswagen XL1 hyper-efficient plug-in diesel hybrid. There is so much that is interesting about a car like this reaching production from a major automaker that it's tough to know where to begin.
First off, you should know that - at least for this generation - there is absolutely no chance in Albuquerque that this "1-liter vehicle" (i.e. a vehicle that can burn just one liter of fuel to travel 100 kilometers, or 62.1 miles) will ever make it into the hands of North American customers. We, too, were having trouble imagining an XL1 in typical American traffic, surrounded by comparatively massive pickups and SUVs. The driving experience had us recalling a couple of weeks in 1999 when we drove the then-revolutionary Honda Insight hybrid on US roads. We keenly remember the feeling of being very small and vulnerable, even as we felt proudly green in our 61-mpg Tochigi pod. Thing is, the Volkswagen is smaller still, and nearly as light despite its more complex drivetrain and safety features.
