1975 VW Westfalia Campmobile. Rare Hard Top

This bus is my daily driver and a great car. Lots of fun. I just drove it to northern Wisconsin and back to CA last summer.

The Good:

It's runs well and is reliable. It starts right up. I have gone through it and done a lot of work. Has many new parts...starter, 2 batteries (main battery is a $200 Optima and Bosch backup), alternator, distributor wires, brakes, front and rear shocks, window seals all around (although some are not installed yet but will go with the car), new tail light assembly, new side mirrors, new chrome headlight rings, all the lights work on the bus, new license plate light assembly, new side marker lights/lens, new front windshield, new clutch cable, new carpet, 2 new brake pressure switches, new CV joints, CV boots, and CV axles, tires are good...etc....new steering damper, voltage regulator.....

The interior is original with blue plaid. All the cabinets are in place and in good condition but one cabinet is missing a drawer and the top. Original jalousie windows open and close. I have the original owners manual and the bug screen for the rear hatch.

The owner before me had the car nearly 20 years in Southern California and so the rust is minimal. This car does not need smog in the State of California.

The Bad:

Needs a proper paint job. I've been painting it with a spray can. I finished the front and back but not the sides. Turned out really good, however, it really does need a professional paint job.
Still needs some finishing touches. For instance, I made a beautiful wood panel for the drivers door and rear hatch but haven't got around to the passengers side or the sliding door.

This is a great bus that keeps getting more valuable. The Hard Top Westy's are especially getting more valuable every year.

UAW angered over VW workers getting right to defend anti-union vote

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

The United Auto Workers have called a decision by the National Labor Relations Board allowing anti-UAW employees at the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga the right to defend voting down unionization at the plant "an outrage."
You'll recall that the union was defeated by a vote of 712 to 626 in a contentious February election. The UAW claims the outcome was unfairly swayed by pro-business, anti-union forces, including Senator Bob Corker and political advocate Grover Norquist.
This new decision by the NLRB essentially gives workers backed by the anti-UAW National Right to Work Legal Defense Foundation and Southern Momentum a formal voice in the impending hearing on the UAW's appeal of the vote.

VW updates Scirocco with revised styling, new engines

Sun, 16 Feb 2014

The Scirocco is undoubtedly one of the better-looking models in the Volkswagen lineup, but introduced back in 2008, it's now been on the market - some markets, anyway - for the better part of six years. VW is said to have an all-new replacement in the works, but before that arrives, the German automaker has announced a facelifted version with revised styling and a new engine lineup.
Set to be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the new Scirocco benefits from updated styling front and rear, high-tech exterior lighting, a revised cabin space with some throwback retro touches, some new technologies and, of course, an array of fresh wheel options ranging from 17 to 19 inches.
The updated Scirocco will be offered with a wide array of engines right from the get-go, including four gasoline options and two diesels, spanning from 125 horsepower all the way up to the 280-hp Scirocco R. The 2014 model hits European showrooms in August, but unfortunately isn't any more likely to make the transatlantic voyage Stateside than the version it replaces. Still interested? There's plenty to see in the high-res image gallery above and details in the press release below.

Volkswagen Passat gets Wolfsburg Edition, priced from $23,495*

Tue, 23 Apr 2013

Volkswagen has just announced a new Passat Wolfsburg Edition, which slots between the base S and mid-grade SE trims in terms of content and price. The automaker has not released any official photos of the car as of this writing (aside from the badge shot you see here, of course), but the Wolfsburg Passat will be visually set apart from the rest by a unique set of 16-inch alloy wheels.
The big host of upgrades for the Wolfsburg Edition are found inside, where buyers will enjoy standard amenities like leatherette seats (with bun-warmers on the front chairs), a power driver's seat, satellite radio and a media interface with iPod connectivity. Of course, this comes on top of the already standard Passat features like Bluetooth and auto on/off headlamps. The Wolfsburg Passat will only be available with the 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine and a six-speed automatic transmission.
Look for the 2013 Wolfsburg Edition Passat to hit dealerships in the very near future, priced from $23,495, *not including $795 for destination. Have a look below for Volkswagen's official press blast.
