1975 Volkswagen Vw Bus Camper Riviera "the Alamobile" on 2040-cars

For sale is my art car known as "The Alamobile".  I bought it about 7 years ago from someone who had intended to restore it, but didn't have the time.  I put about $3K into it to make it safer and more reliable to drive.  Brakes, hoses, tires, etc.  A few less mechanical upgrades include retractable seats belts on the driver and front passenger seats and a Pioneer single CD player.  I believe the van was used as a work van because it was pretty much stripped of all the interior camping features.   No back seats, sinks, cabinets etc.  The only things that remain from it's camping-use days are the Riviera style camper pop top (tenting intact), the hookup fixtures on the driver side, and the propane tank underneath the bay door.  The camper top is painted (clouds on the sides, Texas flag on top). The odometer reads 51,307.4 miles, but it only goes to 6 numbers, so no telling how many times this has cycled over.
The van has some dents on the exterior, but the body is intact.  Some rust around the windshield and windows and on the front floor panel, but nothing that isn't repairable.  The van was not a daily driver and has not been driven in probably 6 months.  I probably only put a couple hundred miles on it a year while I've owned it, if that.  It does run and can run good, but I just haven't had time to exercise it regularly.  Last time I drove it, it liked to stall out while idling for a bit at red lights.  You can gas it to keep it going, but it probably just needs an idle adjustment.  No spare tire.  The old seats belts, visors, and some other odds and ends are included, as well as two Bosch headlights and bulbs I never got around to installing.  The A/C does NOT work.
Sold as is.  Buyer responsible for shipping/picking up from Houston, TX... Art Car Capital of the World.  I don't care if you use it as an art car, too, just hope you make you're own and repaint it.

Honda wins Commercial of the Decade, but not for the ad you think [w/VIDEO]

Honda's Commercial of the Decade: "Grrr" - Click above to watch video
The mad men at Adweek recently voted for the Commercial of the Decade (Super Bowl commercials not included) and Honda took top honors over memorable ads from the last ten years by companies like Nike, Budweiser and Sony. That's not a big surprise considering Honda often puts a huge amount of effort into its on-air spots. However, the Japanese automaker didn't win for the commercial you might have expected: "Cog." Though Honda's famous commercial that breaks down a European Accord Tourer into a Rube Goldberg-esque machine was also a finalist, it was beaten by another Honda commercial called "Grrr" that's narrated by Garrison Keillor of all people. You've probably never seen it, but you can after the jump.
Volkswagen also made the list of finalists, but the particular ad chosen out of all the comical VW ads we've seen was unexpected as well. Most surprising carmaker with a commercial in the finals: Saturn. Who knew...

Volkswagen adding R-Line trim to Touareg, Tiguan for 2014

Fri, 11 Jan 2013

Volkswagen introduced its aggressive R-Line appearance package on the CC and Beetle last year, but later this year, this treatment will also be applied to VW's crossovers, the Tiguan and Touareg. Both sporty-looking utility vehicles will be unveiled next week at the Detroit Auto Show.
The 2014 Tiguan R-Line comes standard with bi-xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights, and the package adds 19-inch wheels, grey fender extensions, body-color side skirts and a liftgate spoiler. Inside, the R-Line adds a flat-bottom sport steering wheel with paddle shifters, a black headliner and numerous metallic trim accents such as the stainless scuff plates, the aluminum pedals and metallic finish on the instrument and door panels. The Tiguan R-Line will be offered in front- and all-wheel drive configurations.
As for the 2014 Touareg R-Line (shown above), this model gets an ever more distinctive look with an aggressive front fascia, 20-inch wheels and dual oval-shaped exhaust outlets in addition to the painted side skirts and LED taillights. Similar metallic interior trim pieces found inside the Tiguan R-Line will also make their way into the Touareg as well as gloss black accents on the instrument panel and center stack.

Lamando is Chinese for VW Jetta CC [w/video]

Sun, 31 Aug 2014

Volkswagen is not messing around when it characterizes its new MQB architecture as modular. It's already underpinning the VW Golf, Audi A3, Seat Leon and Skoda Octavia, and will soon form the basis for many more. And here is the latest.
Unveiled at the Chengdu Motor Show in China this weekend is the new Volkswagen Lamando, a four-door coupe similar in size to a Jetta but with the svelter roofline of the larger Passat-based CC to go after the Mercedes-Benz CLA. It's essentially the production version of the New Midsize Coupe concept that previewed its arrival at the Beijing Motor Show this past April, and will be built locally for local consumption by VW's joint venture with SAIC.
Power comes from either a 1.4- or 2.0-liter turbo four mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, with an equivalent price tag below $30,000. Whether this or any similar vehicle ever arrives in North American showrooms remains to be seen, but we'll be watching to find out. In the meantime you can scope it out in the trippy video below and the photos in the gallery above.
