We have had a wonderful time with this bus and it has taken our family on a lot of trips.  We have now outgrown it and would like to see it go to someone who will continue to care for it and use it. It has been fixed up over the years by two different owners and looks and runs nice.  This is not a showroom bus but it turns heads and gets lots of compliments.  The paint was done a few years ago as well as a new hemp canvas pop-top.  The bus has the double bed with a cot in the pop-top and a child's cot in the front (all included).  It also comes with an add-a-room tent with privacy cabin that attaches to the side door of the bus.  The tent is very well made and can stand alone from the vehicle.  The colour of the bus and the tent look very nice together, not the ugly bus colours you often see.  Check out the add-a-room tent at busdepot.com/details/addaroom/

The bus has a unique European seating layout and a propane refrigerator has been added.  Another plus with this bus is that it has the factory installed Eberspacher gas heater in the back that runs on a timer.  The heater can be used when driving or when parked camping.   We replaced the engine with a 2.0 and it is running great.  It has more power and is much quieter than the 1600 we drove all over the country.  The tires are in good shape.  Custom curtains and wood flooring give this bus a sweet style.

We will include lots of receipts, manuals and books including a John Muir How to Keep Your Volkswagon Alive Manual and a Bentley Manual.

See pics of rust on front floor boards and in back under the battery.  The door panels in the front could be replaced and also the wood panel on the back hatch and a little of the plastic trim around cabinets.  The window crank is broken off the sliding door.  Driver's seat is ripped, passengers seat is not.  Back upholstery is looking good. The bus runs and drives great.  No drive train problems.  It has the typical VW oil drip.  Mileage exceeds odometer limits.

Volkswagen shows off performance-ish Passat concept

Mon, 14 Jan 2013

As part of its 2013 Detroit Auto Show debut package, Volkswagen has rolled out a sportier version of the Passat sedan, though it's strictly conceptual for now. A small dose of go-fast visuals have been added to the handsome Volkswagen, including 19-inch wheels, carbon-capped mirrors, an advanced front lighting system, LED taillamps and dual exhaust. Some carbon bits and upgraded leather are found inside the cabin, as well.
But the real performance chops come in the form of a 1.8-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that sends 250 horsepower to the Passat's front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission. That's a good boost in power over the 170 hp of the base 2.5-liter inline-five, but not quite as potent as the 3.6-liter VR6. A lowered sport suspension and revised electronic steering are also on hand, making things slightly more involving out on the road... we assume.
It's not quite the performance concept we were hoping for, but a more enthusiastic Passat isn't necessarily a bad thing. Scroll down for the press release.

Volkswagen looking to acquire Proton, Lotus?

Thu, 26 Jul 2012

Let's say you're an automaker bent on world domination looking to grow your sales. That's going to have you looking at Asian markets, because that's where some of the biggest growth has been, and that's exactly what Volkswagen is doing as it considers making another run at Malaysia's Proton.
Reuters reports that Volkswagen is interested in at least a partial stake, if not a controlling interest in Lotus-parent Proton as a way to continue a production presence in the region without having to build its own factory.
Volkswagen already builds the Passat in a DRB-HICOM facility in Pekan, Malaysia, and plans are in place to build the Jetta and Polo there, as well. With both southeast Asia and its relationship with Proton figuring so importantly in Volkswagen's plans for expansion, buying into Proton can help ensure stability. Volkswagen is being tight-lipped about the whole idea, but CEO Martin Winterkorn did recently say, "it's our clear goal to continue the successful (expansion) course of past years with great dynamics and stability," which sounds an awful lot like deals are on the table to smooth the path to further growth.

2013 Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet

Thu, 07 Mar 2013

The Golf VI's Last Hurrah Is Pure Niche
This was in the heart of the ultra-chic Côte d'Azur during winter. The car to be tested was the not-for-North America 2013 Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet. Prevailing weather conditions here this time of year are bizarrely pleasant, as though a dome of Swarovski crystal has been placed over the entire region to protect it from any real winter spoiling things. And the zippy Golf R Cabriolet is a sports car designed precisely for this area's preciously narrow winding streets, as well as for the lofty budgets of its property owners.
So then why was it snowing like we were in northern Michigan? The weather front hit from the north like a swift kick to the Jordaches. The roof was open on this Candy White Golf R Cabrio and I, as is my wont, was determined through thick or thin to keep it retracted. It had been raining and sometimes sleeting like the End of Days, but I kept the lid cracked because the 261-horsepower cabrio - the most powerful convertible ever built by Volkswagen - was snipping along nicely as the bad weather blew over my head and wetted only the rear headrests.
