Super clean 14K original mile Beetle GLS Convertible, finished in Black over Cream interior and Black top. This car is the sharpest looking Beetle I have ever seen. Not only is it a great looking car, but it is in like new condition inside and out, and is in original accident free condition. The paint and body are super clean with no dings, dents, or scratches to be found anywhere and really must be seen to be believed. The interior shows like new with no signs of abnormal wear and no smoking. The convertible top is in excellent condition. This was originally a Florida car that was sold here with just 9K miles and has never seen salt or snow. The 2nd owner was an older gentleman who drove the car less than 6,000 miles in the 6+ years he owned it and kept it tucked in the garage under the included car cover, only driving it on nice days and to the VW dealership for service. He has since gotten too old to enjoy the car and sold it. This car is loaded with features including: 6 speed automatic transmission with manual mode, Monsoon sound system with CD player, Power convertible top, Rear windscreen wind deflector, Fog lights, and upgraded 18 alloy wheels. The convertible top boot, wind deflector, car cover used when the car was stored in the garage, floor mats, books, and extra keys are all included with the car. If you are looking for the sharpest looking Beetle on the road with the lowest mileage you will find anywhere, don't miss this exceptional once-in-a-lifetime oportunity to own this incredible Beetle Cabriolet! Volkswagen considering a four-door, four-seat XL1
Fri, 22 Aug 2014According to a report in Autocar, Volkswagen might have more in mind for the XL1 than mining it for advances to grace the next-generation Golf. Aiming to fight the Honda FCEV due for public consumption next year, we're told VW executives have put a four-door, four-seater version of the XL1 - it could be called XL2 - on the drawing board. The impetus is said to come from the top, with VW Group chairman Ferdinand Piëch intent on staying in the deep end of "super-efficent vehicles."
Autocar suspects the necessary changes could raise the weight of the car from 1,749 pounds to 2,068 pounds, which would make it four pounds less than the 2,072-pound Up! we drove a few years ago. Crucially, however, the mag thinks the extra capacity wouldn't change the two-seater's 310-mile-per-gallon rating, with tech tweaks and the aerodynamic benefit of a longer car offsetting the weight. Speculation is that the back seats would be staggered like the fronts in order to maintain the XL1's overall profile.
We recently heard about another XL1 variant that's gone off the radar entirely, the Ducati-engined XLR that we thought we'd see at the Geneva Motor Show and that was said to be going into production, so this one could go the same way. The biggest hurdle to making such an idea a reality, though, could be the price: the current XL1 costs 110,000 euros ($146,116). If VW really is going to compete with the Honda FCEV and the Toyota FCV - $70,000 in Japan - that might be where it wants to start.
VW Jetta TDI Value Edition drops price of diesel ownership to $21,295*
Wed, 08 Jan 2014Getting a new diesel-powered car just got a bit easier. Volkswagen has announced a new Jetta TDI Value Edition for 2014 that trims over $2,000 off the starting price of a Jetta TDI, making the most affordable diesel-powered car in America even more so. Prices start at $21,295 (*plus $820 for destination) for a Value Edition with a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed dual-clutch automatic adds $1,100 to the price. For that money, owners will get 140 horsepower, 236 pound-feet of torque and 42 miles per gallon on the freeway.
Despite the lower price and being down on content versus the previous base Jetta TDI, the Value Edition does come quite well equipped, with standard heated cloth seats, a six-speaker stereo with a Media Device Interface, satellite radio, and one-touch, up-down power windows on all four doors. Customers will be giving up some notable stuff though, including tilt/telescopic steering, Bluetooth streaming audio, power seats and a multi-function steering wheel.
Still, if you're aching to get your hands on a new TDI, this is now the most affordable way to do it. We suspect having the lower MSRP will help the German manufacturer make even further diesel-powered inroads here in the States, a land where they cleared their decks of over 100,000 TDI models in 2013.
Honda wins Commercial of the Decade, but not for the ad you think [w/VIDEO]
Fri, 18 Dec 2009Honda's Commercial of the Decade: "Grrr" - Click above to watch video
The mad men at Adweek recently voted for the Commercial of the Decade (Super Bowl commercials not included) and Honda took top honors over memorable ads from the last ten years by companies like Nike, Budweiser and Sony. That's not a big surprise considering Honda often puts a huge amount of effort into its on-air spots. However, the Japanese automaker didn't win for the commercial you might have expected: "Cog." Though Honda's famous commercial that breaks down a European Accord Tourer into a Rube Goldberg-esque machine was also a finalist, it was beaten by another Honda commercial called "Grrr" that's narrated by Garrison Keillor of all people. You've probably never seen it, but you can after the jump.
Volkswagen also made the list of finalists, but the particular ad chosen out of all the comical VW ads we've seen was unexpected as well. Most surprising carmaker with a commercial in the finals: Saturn. Who knew...
