68 Vw Tub Buggy on 2040-cars

Year:1968 Mileage:3000
Location:

Cleveland, Ohio, United States

Cleveland, Ohio, United States

The buggy is titled in the state of Ohio as a 1968 vw roadster and street legal.

I have owned the buggy for 3 years and have slowly been updating the engine. Didn't know much about VW's before buying and have learned more than I wanted too about air-cooled vw's. If you are new to VW's -- be sure to do your homework or you might be buying a project. The first year I owned mine I seemed to always be broken down on the side of the road.

The buggy has a new re-built 1835cc dual-port motor and I only have put 2,000 miles on it so far. The transmission has also been upgraded to a 3-rib IRS (later style) transmission shaft and throw out bearing with new clutch plate. It's a salvage transmission, not rebuilt, and shifts perfectly. Reverse and all gears shift easily with no grinding. The buggy has also been totally re-wired because the original wiring had problems. LED taillights to ensure you are seen in traffic. Buggy has roller gas pedal but can have pedal added.

A new Weber progressive carburetor (32/36) DFEV carburetor with electric choke fuels the motor. The distributor has been upgraded to a 009 pointless distributor with built in pointless pickup. A full flow oil pump with filter has been added. The 12 generator was removed and replaced with a modern alternator. Ceramic dual exhaust system was added. A new speedometer which shows miles since new motor and fuel gauge also works. The volt and oil pressure gauge need wired to work. New front seats have been added. The seats don't recline but can move back and forth for adjustment. The passenger seat cover has a small hole but the color of the seats always can be changed with new seat covers. The seat covers cost around $40.00 each.

The buggy has a bad boy air horn installed and just had a front wheel alignment.

The buggy's motor and performance are excellent. Nice rumble sound and has some power. Top speed is around 80-85 but I can go faster if traveling downhill. People always ask top speed by hearing the engine when I am driving around town. I have to remind them it's a 4 cylinder engine powered by 1960's technology.

Things which still need done on the buggy: It still has drum brakes and could be upgraded to disc brakes on the front to ensure better stopping power. It does need cosmetic work but this is a turn-key buggy ready to drive.

You can call and ask for Mark (216)-799-6555. You can also text me or e-mail with any questions. I tried to explain all parts on the buggy but ask if you have any questions in case I forgot something. I also can include a used tow-bar used to transport vw buggies and single roll bar which I removed because it was a hassle for passengers to enter the back seat.

If out of the state of Ohio: check your laws because some states don't allow buggies to be titled for street use or make it difficult.

Reverse lights work when shifter is placed into reverse - no switch is needed. The wiper works at one speed but won't help in rain.

Skoda Octavia vRS is just the thing for your pumped-up neighborhood

Fri, 26 Jul 2013

Skoda, oh Skoda. You're just so cool. Maybe it's the fact that it's a brand that we don't get in these United States, but Skoda's rebadged Volkswagens, in particular the new Octavia vRS shown here, are just different enough from the hum-drum VWs on our shores that the Czech brand seems strangely desirable. Maybe we're just craving forbidden fruit.
This short, minute-long spot covers the new vRS in a world of excess, where strollers ride on 26-inch wheels, lawnmowers feature V8 engines and ice cream cones are the size of toddlers. As things often go in these ads, the Octavia vRS draws the eyes of passerby that are seemingly use to things far more ridiculous than a reasonably priced Czech sedan. In reality, the Octavia should be fairly familiar to American buyers. It uses the same 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-pot found in the Volkswagen GTI and Jetta GLI, with 217 horsepower, and sits on the same platform as the Audi A3 and Volkswagen Golf. Take a look at the full spot, below.

Volkswagen Golf Wagon caught completely uncovered

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Without a lot of information to go with them, our camera-toting spies have captured some new images of a Volkswagen Golf wagon variant that is almost completely undisguised. In fact, the one piece of camouflage on the tidy wagon would probably have gone unnoticed to most casual viewers. Look closely at the rear three-quarter view of the car and you'll notice that the apparent taillight clusters are actually fakes - the outline of the real units is faintly visible behind the blue bodywork and the sticker-like fake taillights.
It's a good guess then, that this Golf wagon (called a Golf Kombi by our spy photographer) is a prototype that's pretty far along in the development cycle for Volkswagen. We can't be sure what impact this will have on the company's small wagon offering here in the US, but we'd be pretty surprised if something very like this didn't end up as the next Jetta SportWagen. We might well have more information on that front, after we visit Geneva next week.

Volkswagen's 261-mpg hand-built XL1 headed for Geneva

Thu, 21 Feb 2013

After years of rumors, development and testing, the Volkswagen XL1 is finally about to become a reality. The project that began life as a daring 1-Liter concept car in 2002, will finally get its production-ready curtain call at the Geneva Motor Show in just a few weeks.
As soon as it hits the streets, the two-seat XL1 will instantly become the most fuel-efficient and most aerodynamic production car in the world. The car uses a plug-in hybrid system to achieve mind-blowing consumption of just 0.9 liters of diesel fuel consumed every 100 kilometers (and average of roughly 261 miles per gallon). Plus, the XL1 can go up to 50 kilometers on its battery power alone. Coefficient of drag is a miniscule 0.189, thanks to a tiny frontal area and an obviously slippery shape.
XL1 power comes from a two-cylinder diesel motor connected to a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, while the 20 kW electric motor is fed by a lithium-ion battery. Both combine to give the XL1 performance figures that are, while not stirring, not shabby considering its extreme frugality: 0-62 miles per hour comes up in 12.7 seconds and top speed is nearly 146 mph.
