This is a great car for someone who wants to build that special show car as this car is a solid base or a fun daily driver. You are bidding on a nice 1978 Convertible Beetle with original working stock fuel injection and 1.6l engine. New battery and tires. Paint is bright and original color, but car has been repainted, has a few small scratches. New battery and tires and shocks(rear). Top both inside and outside perfect. All glass in great shape. The only problems are as follows; The driver seat vinyl is bad, took off seat covers to show that in photos. Brakes are a little squishy, but work (except the passenger rear wheel), but no E-Brake functionality. Also the Odometer is non-functional, (speedo and other indicators work) so the title reads 00,000 miles. Note, I have the WA state plate, and car registered, just left the vanity plate on the car because its fun and this car really only sites in my garage anyway. And finally, the radio in the dash is loose. Works just fine, just needs to be bolted down properly I bought the car as a fun project car and never really had the time to turn it into a show car. Car is however a lot of fun to drive The rear passenger side drum brake doesn't work, my plan was to convert all four brakes to disc via the JC Whitney kit but never got around to it. Car is great fun to drive, and turns heads. The first thing people ask is if this is the original color, yes it is. In 1978, the Volkswagen Beetle came is some pretty vibrant colors, this Chrome Yellow is one of them. I will bring the car to you if the range from zip code 98019 is less than 50 miles, otherwise you will need to make arrangements to come get the car. |

Volkswagen iBeetle gets integrated iPhone dock, little else
Fri, 19 Apr 2013Apple fans have been itching to see the tech giant flex the full muscle of its iOS operating system in an automotive infotainment system for years, which is why we turned all sorts of excited when we caught wind of the Volkswagen iBeetle. The machine is headed to the Shanghai Motor Show for a debut, and VW promised it would be one of the "first cars in the world to have a genuine integrative interface for the iPhone that was coordinated with Apple." Listen closely, and you can hear the contented sigh of a million wallets opening.
Go ahead and close those up, kids.
In reality, the iBeetle offers little more than a dash-mounted dock and a special app that shows a few vehicle functions, which is about as far from an infotainment revolution as you're likely to find. In fact, the setup is little more than a factory rehash of aftermarket items, and hardly worth a whole model debut at an international motor show. And that's to say nothing of the fact that Apple relishes in changing the shape and form of its darling handheld at every generation. Volkswagen better be prepared to keep pace with appropriate docking mechanisms for the upcoming iPhone 5S, 6, 6S, et al.
Touring the Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg
Mon, 23 Sep 2013Forgive the ribbon up top - this isn't so much of a Read This as a Look At This. Ran When Parked took a tour of the sprawling Volkswagen Museum in Wolfsburg, and while there's a spot of text about the different and unique vehicles on display in the rotating exhibits, it's largely the collection of pictures of odd, one-off VW-badged cars and vans that excites. If you're a fan of the weird and wild, this is a post you'll want to look at.
As RWP points out, this is the larger, but less busy, museum targeted purely at Volkswagen products. The smaller AutoStadt museum, meanwhile, covers a much broader swath, with products from other Volkswagen Group members. VW Chattanooga plant very close to UAW representation
Tue, 11 Nov 2014After months of fighting from both sides, it looks like the Volkswagen factory in Chattanooga, TN, might unionize under the United Auto Workers after all. According to a letter acquired by The Associated Press, VW and the UAW reportedly struck a deal last spring where the union agreed to stop its challenge of the organization vote with the National Labor Relations Board to help clear the way for the CrossBlue to be produced in Tennessee. In exchange, the automaker would recognize the UAW at the plant. Leaders of the Local 42 at the facility reportedly signed the letter.
It seems that such an agreement would clear the way for the factory to unionize after months of dispute. According to The Detroit News, under Tennessee law, workers aren't required to join the organization. Although, that might not be a problem. As of a few months ago, Local 42 already claimed to have signed around 700 of the plant's roughly 1,500 workers.
Controversy has constantly swirled around the possible unionization at the Chattanooga plant. The UAW held its official decision in February and lost 712 to 626. However, there were allegations of intense political pressure to make sure the ballot failed. A later report also found that VW was offered $300 million in incentives well before the vote to make sure things progressed to the "satisfaction of the State of Tennessee," but the deal was later retracted. In July, the UAW opened Local 42 on the campus in hopes of signing up a majority of the workforce by volunteering to be a part of it.
