  • Low reserve on a good running, reliable California car since new.
  • It starts every time.
  • Working: Lights, blinkers, speedometer radio and horn work.
  • Not working: Heater and fan.
  • The engine was rebuilt not long ago. The top was replaced (black vinyl) and new floor pan at the same time. No receipts for anything; it was done by the first owner.
  • The paint is mostly original, but has been touched up. It really needs a paint job.
  • Straight body!
  • The rust spots on the body are just surface rust.
  • Heater part underneath rusted out.  See pics.
  • The padding in the front seats backrest is worn out. Seat bottoms and rear seats-okay.
  • Upholstery is original and tired.
  • The chrome window frames on the doors is missing.
  • The wing windows latches are broken. (Pot metal) I have them. Maybe they can be drilled out and reattached.
  • Clear title in my name, registered until 2015
  • Recently passed smog.
  • This is a Champagne Edition car. Each US dealership only received one. These cars were painted Alpine white(L90b) with a couple body stripes along the bottom of the door,  white vinyl interior, burlwood dash, padded steering wheel, sand colored top.
  • The engine on this car is AJ 102915  I think this is the original engine, but not sure.
  • All original glass, except the curved windscreen.
  • I live in Oakland, a port town, so it is easy to ship this vehicle internationally.
  • For international buyers, I will deliver the vehicle to Aladdin Freight, a shipper in Oakland.  He can ship to Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, or Southampton for about $1,375. plus the cost of unloading out of container, dray port to warehouse, and import duties.

Toyota reclaims global sales crown, GM and VW not far behind

Mon, 28 Jan 2013

TheDetroitBureau.com reports Toyota has retaken the global sales crown. The Japanese automaker turned out 9.75 million vehicles last year, putting it just ahead of General Motors, with 9.29 million vehicles. Volkswagen, meanwhile, filled out the podium by building 9.1 million units in 2012.
Still, Toyota numbers fell just below projections the automaker made earlier in the year, due largely to a fierce territorial dispute between Japan and China that has seen mainland buyers shun Japanese goods. But the news marks a substantial comeback for Toyota. The company fell to third place in the global production race in 2011 after tragic earthquake and tsunami caused several plant closures.
In Japan, Toyota enjoyed a sales increase of 35 percent over the previous year, while the company's worldwide sales jumped by 23 percent thanks in part to new additions to the Prius line. The automaker is forecasting yet another increase for 2013, with the company projecting to reach 9.91 million units this year. Neither Volkswagen nor GM have released their own projections just yet.

$1.4B hedge fund suit against Porsche dismissed

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

Investors have canvassed courts in Europe and the US to repeatedly sue Porsche over its failed attempt to take over Volkswagen in 2008 (see here, and here and here), and they have repeatedly failed to win any cases. You can add another big loss to the tally, with Bloomberg reporting that the Stuttgart Regional Court has dismissed a 1.4-billion euro ($1.95B US) lawsuit, the decision explained by the court's assertion that the investors would have lost on their short bets even if Porsche hadn't misled them.
Examining the hedge funds' motives for stock purchases and the bets that VW share prices would fall, judge Carola Wittig said that the funds didn't base their decisions on the key bits of "misinformation," and instead were participating simply in "highly speculative and naked short selling," only to get caught out.
With other cases still pending, the continued streak of victories bodes well for Porsche's courtroom fortunes, since judges will expect new information to consider overturning precedent. If there is any new info, it could come from the potential criminal cases still outstanding against former CEO Wendelin Wiedeking and CFO Holger Härter, who were both indicted on charges of market manipulation.

Carlex Criollo is a Volkswagen Multivan shrine to Alcantara, leather and... fish

Wed, 10 Jul 2013

A keen angler recently went to Polish tuner Carlex Design (the same folks who did that steampunk Mini Countryman a while back) for a revamp of his Volkswagen Multivan. What resulted is perhaps the most striking - yet fishing-unfriendly - interior we've ever seen in a van. Below the shoulder line, if a surface isn't covered in cross-stitched Alcantara, then it's covered in cross-stitched leather. Even the steering wheel airbag boss. And the seat supports. And the cupholders.
The brown hue of the Multivan's interior is called Criollo, named for an especially fine specimen of cocoa. The finishing touch on the overhaul is a fileting knife that Carlex made for the owner. We imagine he'll use the knife for the marine life, but keep his van far away from it.
