Up for sale here is a 1977 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible. This is the rare Karmann model with the Fuel Injected motor in it. The previous owner of this car purchased it in 2005 in California and drove it back to Canada. It has never been winter driven, never seen snow. He was told the motor was re-built, but there are no receipts to prove this. It runs good, no smoke, no knocks, starts good and seems to have good power. The car was partially restored by the previous owner 5 or 6 years ago, but then lost interest and never finished it. New floor pans were put in it from front to back and new running boards were also put on it. A new PPG windshield with rubber gasket was put in it. The car has had allot of new rubber weather stripping. The seats were re-upholstered at some point in time. New carpet has been put in it. A brand new top was purchased, it was partially installed but not professionally installed. The top needs to be finished being installed, it is not usable as is. The rear window is not put in it, but I have it. I never left the car outside or put the top up so it was no big deal to me. The top frame was sand blasted and painted, a new oak bow was bought and installed too. Overall I would say this is a really nice rust free California car that just needs to TLC. It is in driver condition, nothing on it is perfect, but you can drive it and enjoy it right now. I just put a new brake system on it, including the master cylinder and all 4 wheel cylinders. New tie rod end. The tires are in good condition with lots of tread, they look nearly new. Good Driver at a Great Price !

VW Golf GTI wrung out by Chris Harris

Thu, 27 Jun 2013

Enthusiasts like nothing more than to crucify modern interpretations of their favorite performance models for failing to live up to some imagined ethos. Even the Volkswagen GTI has suffered its fair share of slings and arrows for growing in size and curb weight. Chris Harris recently spent some time with the all-new MK VII GTI to find out if growing up means giving up on what makes the machine so special.
Judging by his comments, Harris certainly doesn't think so. Yes, the new GTI is considerably more comfortable than its predecessors, but that's hardly a bad thing. The multitude of driving modes actually seem to add depth to the car rather than simply try to force one tool to do many jobs, and Harris even finds the machine's electronic power steering tolerable. As a result, Harris goes so far as to call the Volkswagen GTI "one of the best cars to actually own." How's that for high praise? You can watch the video for yourself by scrolling below.

VW reveals Outback-rivaling Golf Alltrack ahead of Paris

Wed, 24 Sep 2014

The Volkswagen Passat Alltrack is getting a baby brother at this year's 2014 Paris Motor Show in the form of a new Golf Alltrack. Like its larger sibling, the little wagon is supposed to offer light-duty off-road driving ability combined with a more rugged look to show it off.
To give the Golf Alltrack that soft-road ability, VW is outfitting the wagon with its latest 4Motion all-wheel drive system from Haldex. The setup can decouple power from the rear-axle when not needed to save fuel. To further improve traction, the Alltrack gets VW's electronic differential lock, and the car can individually brake its inside wheel during hard cornering for better handling.
Volkswagen also wants the Alltrack to be able to visually show that it can handle getting away from the pavement, even though it starts life as a standard Golf wagon. That means jacking up the suspension an extra 0.75 inches and adding black moldings all the way around the car. There are also redesigned bumpers for the front and rear and silver underbody protection, plus new accents like anodized roof rails and silver mirror caps. The interior is essentially unchanged from the wagon, except for altered trim and Alltrack badges.

VW midsize crossover production headed for Chattanooga

Fri, 10 Jan 2014

Potential labor woes aside, it looks like Volkswagen's Chattanooga, TN factory must have done something that impressed the bosses in Germany, because it sounds like the three-year-old factory is set to score a second model.
The factory currently builds the Passat, and has been in the running alongside VW's Puebla, Mexico factory to build a new crossover vehicle, likely based on the CrossBlue Concept. According to Bloomberg, a pair of unnamed sources have confirmed that Chattanooga is the favorite ahead of an official announcement.
When last we heard about the CrossBlue Concept, word was that a production decision had been delayed over concerns about the three-row CUV's business case. That August 2013 story claimed that a decision regarding the CrossBlue would be pushed back until early in 2014, which means we're ripe for some sort of news, whether good or bad.
