When I bought it I didn't know what to look for so be careful when buying a old bug.Had to rebuild the front end. New Swing arms and Bushing, all new tie rods complete linkage. Had it professionally aligned at a German car repair outfit. She goes straight all the time, especially when stopping. This is a long list. New shocks, front bearings, rear suspension rubber stops. Has the original smog system on it,I went to great lenghts to get it right- all the correct hoses from the gas tank to the charcoal filter to the original air box.Rebuilt motor, with next size up cylinder she runs strong. New Crossover tube for carburetor, new carburetor, new german distributor NOS (new old stock), new alternator , original air box, new muffler,I added the aftermarket oil filter system when the motor was rebuilt so it sports a real oil filter..Good spare in front with new cardboard trunk covers. Has the original jack and hub cap remover. All new windshield whipper hardware, original stuff. New rubber around the motor area.

Upholstery and Paint are nice and were done by previous owner, he was into cosmetics and nothing else. The Headliner has been redone with the sun visors, they are not original but look very factory and new. And the heater works, new cables and original German Hoses that actually transfer lots of heat.

I sandblasted the rims and had the paint heat baked on, 4 new tires. The rims are original and look great, slapped new hub caps on as well, there good quality not chinese but not German.

Parts that I have that I have not installed. New window hardware$200, New rubber kit for windows includes all door and window rubber and felts $300, A original steering wheel with no cracks $350, new turn signal unit $150, new windshield washer switch and all hardware to make it work with the air in front tire$200. I also have brand new rubber and end caps for the front and rear bumpers,  Note the bumpers are original, Bug City says they are hard to find with the originals.

I would say its a daily driver, and one of the best looking Beetles rolling around my neck of the woods. You can just jump in and go. Of all the cars that I own this is the one you can count on to take you somewhere. Starts every time, runs strong very dependable.

Like with all 40 year old vehicles there is a couple things that need to be fixed up, but its ready to drive. Anyone who has driven it always comments on how nice it drives and looks. Some of my friends have begged me to drive it they love it.

I get more compliments on it than any car I have ever owned. It's real COOL..

Volkswagen drops "GTi" lawsuit against Suzuki

Tue, 02 Oct 2012

Way back in 2004, Volkswagen took umbrage with Suzuki being granted permission to use the nameplate "SWIFT GTi" for a performance variant of its small-car offering (2012 equivalent seen here). Now, eight years and surely some very steep legal bills later, VW has finally dropped its claim against Suzuki.
The General Court of the European Union stated, back in March of this year, that Suzuki's GTi registration could not be confused with VW's "Golf GTI." Volkswagen had appealed that ruling, though has now reportedly called off the dogs. In fact, Germany's Die Welt reports that the appeal has been dead for several weeks now.
This news comes amongst continued arbitration acrimony between the two automakers, all revolving around VW's forced divestiture of nearly 20-percent stake it purchased in Suzuki some two years ago.

VW Jetta TDI Value Edition drops price of diesel ownership to $21,295*

Wed, 08 Jan 2014

Getting a new diesel-powered car just got a bit easier. Volkswagen has announced a new Jetta TDI Value Edition for 2014 that trims over $2,000 off the starting price of a Jetta TDI, making the most affordable diesel-powered car in America even more so. Prices start at $21,295 (*plus $820 for destination) for a Value Edition with a six-speed manual transmission, while a six-speed dual-clutch automatic adds $1,100 to the price. For that money, owners will get 140 horsepower, 236 pound-feet of torque and 42 miles per gallon on the freeway.
Despite the lower price and being down on content versus the previous base Jetta TDI, the Value Edition does come quite well equipped, with standard heated cloth seats, a six-speaker stereo with a Media Device Interface, satellite radio, and one-touch, up-down power windows on all four doors. Customers will be giving up some notable stuff though, including tilt/telescopic steering, Bluetooth streaming audio, power seats and a multi-function steering wheel.
Still, if you're aching to get your hands on a new TDI, this is now the most affordable way to do it. We suspect having the lower MSRP will help the German manufacturer make even further diesel-powered inroads here in the States, a land where they cleared their decks of over 100,000 TDI models in 2013.

Volkswagen Golf Wagon caught completely uncovered

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Without a lot of information to go with them, our camera-toting spies have captured some new images of a Volkswagen Golf wagon variant that is almost completely undisguised. In fact, the one piece of camouflage on the tidy wagon would probably have gone unnoticed to most casual viewers. Look closely at the rear three-quarter view of the car and you'll notice that the apparent taillight clusters are actually fakes - the outline of the real units is faintly visible behind the blue bodywork and the sticker-like fake taillights.
It's a good guess then, that this Golf wagon (called a Golf Kombi by our spy photographer) is a prototype that's pretty far along in the development cycle for Volkswagen. We can't be sure what impact this will have on the company's small wagon offering here in the US, but we'd be pretty surprised if something very like this didn't end up as the next Jetta SportWagen. We might well have more information on that front, after we visit Geneva next week.
