1968 68 Volkswagen Beetle Vw Rat Rod Hot Radical Chopped Top Custom One Of Kind on 2040-cars

Year:1968 Mileage:138000
Location:

Elizabethtown, Kentucky, United States

Elizabethtown, Kentucky, United States

For sale is a 1968 Volkswagen beetle. First of all the car's name is Chubby Betty! This car is a highly radical chopped top beast. has a 1600CC engine from a 1973 gia. or at least that is what I think the engine block serial number came out being. engine has a one barrel carb but is suppose to be a 2bbl. never got around to changing it. engine is a dual port!!!!. plenty of power for this volksrod. exhaust has baffles inside. all lights, brakes, turn signals headlights work. some are led and some are just regular bulb. cant remember which ones are which. headlights are aftermarket model a type. alternator is new. clutch was just installed today because old one was weak.  engine is a little hard to start because of the smaller carb.

suspension sits just about 2inches off the ground in front with no one in it. so when you drive it....hahahahah its fun. it will scrape at some point. brakes are all good. steering is rack and pinion from some GM car I robbed the steering rack from. cant remember model. front end was stretched out 8inches and dropped around 8. radical.

on the body....most of its a beetle. the top is parts and pieces of a beetle and a 1938 chevy coupe. all of it cut and welded together to what you see now. the rear deckled is a 74ish super beetle hood that was cut in the middle and made wider to fit the body. when you open the rear deckled you access a new trunk area and the engine. there are two 90# shocks that hold this deckled open to place your groceries or whatever. the front deck lid opens from inside the car from a hood release knob. the front trunk area gains access to a gas tank which is a early model tank from a 59 or older beetle. the inside of the area is carpeted. this is a panel under the carpet which gains access to the fuse panel box and the main chunk of the new electrical. all electrical is new on the car. has new fuse block. the front visor is a mystery visor. picked it up at a swap meet and even the prior owner had no clue what it was from. I took a chance and cut it in half and made fit the car.

everything works on car except gas gauge. I dunno what's wrong. never had much luck with gas gauges. today I went driving the car and it started raining. wipers stopped working. I think it blew a fuse. not sure. I haven't had chance to look at it. just enjoying the ride.

passenger side door glass is cracked...I forgot to removed an extension cord building the car one day and shut the door with the cord going thru the jamb. cracked the new door glass. at first I hated it but its funny how something will grow on you. it adds character to the car. this is my version of a RAT ROD. it does not have to be perfect. kids can climb all over it and I don't have to worry.

on the inside....diamond plated polished floors. 99 clavier seats....fits really good and feels good. shifter is a old beer tap.  horn is a geo metro beep beep. from my 98 geo metro I totaled out. fits well to the car. kinda cartoony. the steering wheel is from my old 67 mustang but I think its an aftermarket grant steering wheel. there's a bottle opener on the glove box. new cd player. headliner is aesthetic horse skin. looks killer!

the rear deckled sports the cars name. Chubby Betty. Also she is sitting on the hood!!!

Car is currently licensed on the road. I have owned the car for almost a year. bought as a shell and got it going. chopped and welded the hell out of it. I drive it to as many car shows as possible. always draws a crowd. I also been using it to advertise my welding business.

wheels have painted white walls. I have driven the car about 200-300 miles with the paint on them and have been going pretty good I think. they have cracks and chips but like it. goes with the car.

I am sure I am forgetting something because hell this is one heck of a car here. hard to remember it all.

Volkswagen Golf Wagon caught completely uncovered

Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Without a lot of information to go with them, our camera-toting spies have captured some new images of a Volkswagen Golf wagon variant that is almost completely undisguised. In fact, the one piece of camouflage on the tidy wagon would probably have gone unnoticed to most casual viewers. Look closely at the rear three-quarter view of the car and you'll notice that the apparent taillight clusters are actually fakes - the outline of the real units is faintly visible behind the blue bodywork and the sticker-like fake taillights.
It's a good guess then, that this Golf wagon (called a Golf Kombi by our spy photographer) is a prototype that's pretty far along in the development cycle for Volkswagen. We can't be sure what impact this will have on the company's small wagon offering here in the US, but we'd be pretty surprised if something very like this didn't end up as the next Jetta SportWagen. We might well have more information on that front, after we visit Geneva next week.

Help a couple drive their 1984 Vanagon around the world

Meet Brad, Sheena and Nacho
Driving through China is a pricey proposition. The couple will need to pony up a staggering $19,514 just to cover the fees.
Brad and Sheena Van Orden are in the midst of a life-defining campaign to travel around the world, and they're doing it in a 1984 Volkswagen Vanagon custom built for the occasion. The past 15 months have seen the couple quit their jobs with Gore-Tex and drive from Arizona to the very southern tip of Argentina after spending a full two years saving and preparing for the trek. Now they're in southern Asia gearing up for the next leg of their journey.

NA auto output to reach 11-year peak

Thu, 13 Jun 2013

According to Automotive News, automakers are expected to manufacture 16 million light vehicles in North America in 2013. That's up 500,000 units from last year and marks the largest number since 2002. The prediction comes courtesy of LMC Automotive and IHS Automotive, which point to the improving US economy as a bellwether for total production. LMC Automotive says North America will produce 16 million vehicles while IHS has a slightly more optimistic forecast of 16.1 million units. A total of seven automakers are slated to increase production on the continent this year. Nissan is set to see the largest jump at 20 percent over last year.
Volkswagen, meanwhile, is one of the only manufacturers predicted to scale back production. Analysts expect the German company's output to fall by 23 percent to 170,000 units, thanks in part to slow demand for the Volkswagen Passat and Jetta.
