There's not many of these remaining. I bought it from a local VW dealer 3 years ago. This can be a daily driver although I don't drive it much. It has no fuel gauge and the odometer doesn't work, so I don't know the mileage. It's 52 years old so take your own guess as to the mileage. I had the engine rebuilt last summer at a cost of $2K (I have all mechanical records for the past 3 years).
It has some minor surface rust on bumpers and bonnet. It's wired for a radio but doesn't currently have one. Everything works as it should. This car is a blast to drive; I'm only selling it to generate some cash.
I'm selling it locally so if you really want it, make me an offer I can't refuse and we'll terminate the auction early.
A $1000 non-refundable deposit via PayPal is required within 24 hours of auction end.
Full payment under the same method is required within 7 days of auction end.
Please, if you are not intending on paying, please do not bid. All bidders with less than 5 feedbacks need to call me or their bid might be canceled.
I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL THE AUCTION EARLY DUE TO CAR BEING ADVERTISED LOCALLY. BUYER WILL PAY FOR SHIPPING. THIS CAR IS SOLD IN "AS IS" CONDITION WITH NO WARRANTIES GIVEN OR IMPLIED. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE BUYER TO HAVE INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND TO HAVE SATISFIED HIMSELF OR HERSELF AS TO THE VALUE AND THE CONDITION AND TO BID SOLELY UPON THAT JUDGEMENT.

Volkswagen Golf R Evo may debut at Beijing Motor Show
Thu, 23 Jan 2014If a report in Auto Express is correct, a lighter, faster brother to the Volkswagen Golf R will be shown to the world at the Beijing Motor Show in April. Said to be called the Golf R Evo, the even harder hot hatch would be unveiled as one of those concepts that's practically a de facto presentation of the genuine thing. The Evo in its name will come from having a carbon fiber roof and CF in the bodywork, lighter wheels, thinner bucket seats up front and a roll cage instead of rear seats.
If there's a power increase, it's been described as "a small bump." However, as the report mentions, if the Jenny Craig regimen can drop 100 kilograms (220 pounds) from the the 3,247-pound weight of the European Golf R, then the Golf R Evo will do about the same damage on the scales as the Golf but have at least 50 more horsepower and 44 more pound-feet of torque.
Since we still don't have the current Golf, this isn't something that should keep you awake even if the 'concept' does become a production model. But it is good to know that the Golf R is really going to start pushing its boundaries.
Porsche 911 with VW turbodiesel prepares for LeMons assault
Fri, 21 Mar 2014LeMons racing is a wonderful example that setting limits can actually breed creativity. The series mandates that all entries must cost $500, not counting safety equipment, and that cap forces teams to be ingenious in how they build a racecar. Take for example this diesel-powered Porsche 911, which its creators have dubbed Ferkel the Nein-11, that will be racing in the Sears Pointless race this weekend in Sonoma, California.
This Frankenstein combines a 911 chassis that was originally bought just for its European powertrain and a Volkswagen TDI diesel engine mounted in the rear. After deciding the shell could still be of some use, the team decided to go racing. "We began brainstorming what replacement drivetrain to use for maximum offense and there was really only one answer: a diesel," said Philipp von Weitershausen, one of the team captains, to Jalopnik. They bought a 1998 Jetta TDI on the cheap and started figuring out a way to hack the engine into the bay. To pay respect to the donor, the VW's trunk was highly modified (and drilled) and grafted onto the back of Ferkel.
This team isn't a newcomer to LeMons. Its last car was a classic VW Beetle with a Subaru engine and dual controls, named Ferdinand the Bug, which could be driven from the left or right side. It's quite a sight.
Audi CVT suit settlement given green light, 64,000 cars covered
Mon, 07 Oct 2013Audi drivers, listen up. If you bought or leased a 2002-06 model-year A4 or A6 with a factory-installed Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) that failed, you may be entitled to reimbursement under a recently settled class-action lawsuit with corporate parent Volkswagen.
According to Automotive News, the settlement covers about 64,000 vehicles and alleges that "manufacturing and design problems caused the transmissions to fail and left owners stuck with repair costs." While the suit also argues Audi was aware of these issues (going so far as to hide that knowledge from consumers), the settlement stops short of acknowledging any wrongdoing by the German automaker.
Audi drivers are eligible for a cash reimbursement if their CVT repairs occurred within 10 years or 100,000 miles of the date they bought or leased the vehicle before June 19, 2013. To be eligible for compensation, drivers must submit a claim form (found here) with supporting documents by November 18.
