1956 Beetle Oval Window Ragtop With Semaphores on 2040-cars

US $10,499.00
Year:1956 Mileage:100000

Houston, Texas, United States

Original matching body and pan.  Car was restored 15+ years ago, still a good looking car.  Has been in TX since restoration, so very little rust.  Pans & heater channels replaced at restoration.  Grafted German ragtop that works perfectly, very tight.  Has rare locking steering column.  Very tight car, no rattles.  Doors open and close like new.

Very good running 1641 dual port with 12v alternator, brand new clutch, new Weber 40 IDF expertly tuned, new throttle cable, valve adjustment, plugs, tranny flush, new GT exhaust.  New Empi shifter (have original), 009 distributor.  Runs & drives great!  Car needs nothing to be out cruising this weekend.

Adjustable German beam up front.  Car is shown with smoothies and Empi 5 spoke wheels, but I would prefer to sell it with the Empi 5 spoke wheels (negotiable)

Brand new TMI carpet and tweed & vinyl upholstery, looks great.  Modern style 3 point seat belts.  New seat tracks installed several inches back for modern size humans!  I'm 6'5" and fit well.  Wipers, speedo, etc work.  LED snowflake taillights.  Both Semaphores work well and wired to flash.  Hyper-accurate gas gauge included at no extra cost! (bamboo stick)

Overall the car looks like it was restored 15 years or so ago and been well kept since.  Big rock chip on the hood as shown, small rock chips on the fenders here and there.  Some rust bubbling up in the spare tire well, but no other rust issues.  All German glass in great shape.

Cool documentation back to 1957. Can call or text Sean at 713-443-59 zero 3 with questions.  MAY also consider partial trades for a lesser 60s beetle, but must be solid and make trade offer in person so I can inspect your car.  Only pre-1967 beetles, no buses, type 3s, guns, etc.

**Waiting on tax return?  I am willing to take a deposit and hold the car in dry storage for free (a month or two if needed).

An inside look at VW's new California R&D center

Thu, 18 Oct 2012

Less than two months ago, the Volkswagen Group opened a new facility in Oxnard, California (about an hour's drive west of Los Angeles). The $27 million investment, touted as Test Center California (TCC), serves as a research and development lab testing emissions for all brands under Volkswagen's umbrella, including its newest member, Porsche. While still not fully operational, we toured the new 64,000-square-foot building last week and had a first-hand opportunity to see just how much work is involved testing engines and meeting increasingly stringent government emissions standards.
Replacing a similar facility established in 1990 in Westlake Village (about 20-minutes east of the new location), our guide explained how Oxnard was chosen for its temperate climate, varied regional terrain for test drives and low altitude. (The area is only a few feet above sea level - a critical parameter when instrument testing emissions.) The new facility is capable of analyzing hundreds of vehicles, prototypes and customer-owned vehicles, annually.
Most interesting to us was the huge stainless steel climate chamber, with a massive four-wheel dynamometer that allows VW to test running vehicles in both scorching desert and freezing climates without ever leaving the building (an Audi Q7 was running in place during our visit). We were also mesmerized by the countless storage tanks and intricate plumbing of chemicals, stored in both liquid and gas states, needed to perform the variety of tests. Lastly, we took a look at Bugatti's service center on the west coast, located completely within the new center. While there were no supercars on site, the facility is equipped with plenty of spare forged wheels (mounted with expensive Michelin PAX tires) and a Veyron-specific repair jig that allows the vehicle to be completely disassembled, if needed. It is a shame that the facility, which set off all of our automotive geek alerts, is closed to the public.

Witness this insane 736-hp VW Golf immolate its front tires

Mon, 11 Mar 2013

There's torque steer and then there's what we'll from now on dub "The Boba," as in Boba Kettler. The German tuner has a way with the Volkswagen Golf, and the MkI example you see above has been touched with 736 horsepower - that's right, 96 more ponies than a new SRT Viper, all trying to get to ground through those two front wheels.
The 2.0-liter, 16-valve engine has an 8,800 rpm redline and is aided by a Garrett GTX3582R turbocharger shoving 50 psi through the internals. Other upgrades include a new ECU (natch) and a six-speed 'box among other treats. The rubber is Toyo R888s - street-legal competition tires. The result is enough smoke for three Chinese New Years when the lights go green. Indeed, the standing start isn't its forte, but it can apparently get from 62 miles per hour to 124 mph in five seconds.
Watch it go in the video below. And know that this isn't even Boba's best work; he's got a 900-hp MkII Golf that'll do 0-62 mph in 2.3 seconds.

Volkswagen Multivan Alltrack Concept takes the luxury van life off road

Wed, 05 Mar 2014

Volkswagen dug into its commercial vehicle fleet for its latest Geneva Motor Show concept, blending the versatile body of the T5 MultiVan with a luxuriously appointed interior, 4Motion all-wheel drive and a thrifty diesel powertrain.
That 177-horsepower diesel engine routes its power to the AWD system through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Based on that alone, we'd expect the Multivan Alltrack's behind-the-wheel experience to be somewhat familiar. That all-wheel-drive system and van body contribute to the 21-degree approach and 15-degree departure angles of this soft-roading MultiVan.
What wouldn't be familiar is its exquisite cabin. Volkswagen opted for a nautical theme for the concept's interior, featuring grey-blue leather seats from Poltrona Frau and a floor finished in real wood. The dark wood trim can also be found throughout the interior, running below the windows and on the dash.
