Available for auction is my 1980 Toyota 4x4, which has been recently restored to a high & very original level. As you can see from the photos this truck has been disassembled extensively and rebuilt using many new and OEM parts, then painted inside and out. The reason I am selling is this restoration has obviously gotten out of hand.  I now have several bills coming in from its completion, and I wish to pay them off and move on. I never intended to have the truck finished to this level, but you know how it goes "one thing leads to another" and I couldn't stop. It has just sat in my garage since being finished. Im going to break the truck down in to categories in an effort to accurately describe it, and the restoration process.

--SEE LARGE PHOTOS BELOW DESCRIPTION--

-Body

-I searched extensively for a rust free/unmolested truck before purchasing this one. Still had the original yellow paint and not major body flaws. Absolutely zero rust, even original paint looks like new on the floor boards both on the interior and on the underside/see photos.

-The truck was disassembled for paint, glass, doors, fender, all trim, to ensure a quality finish. Door jams were refinished and  new weather seals installed.

-Windshield had been removed to insure  no rust issues. Don't make the mistake of buying one of these unless this area has been verified to be rot free. Mine luckily looked as new "have photos if you would like"

-Bed seams on both sides were taken to bare metal to insure integrity of the bed, again another important process before purchasing as most have been filled with bondo. The seams were clean, however a few pinholed areas only found on the passenger side were cut out. Two small pieces of sheet metal  were professionally butt-welded in. All seams were then striped of their  sealer, inspected than resealed with 3M body seam sealer. Again I have photos to email if you would like

-Body was finished in single stage acrylic urethane, then wet sanded and polished to a high shine.

-Decals were purchased from "James Dean Creations". These are an exact replica of the decals that were used by Toyota. They were also professional installed and look near perfect. No expense spared to finish body correctly.

-Body reassembled with all new lights/housing "see photos", and complete body reassembled with all new stainless fasteners.

Suspension-

The suspension has been gutted and refitted with all new components. This was an expensive and time consuming process and should be considered when buying a classic Toyota. Most of the rubber bushings, seals, and knuckles have long ago been deteriorated.

-Front axle removed, dismantled, and complete new knuckle kit, wheel bearings, and all seals replaced.

-New Rotors, calipers, and all pads front and back replaced. New master cylinder installed at this time as well

-New shocks all four corners, new poly leaf springs bushings "all 24 of them", and new tie rods

-New steering stabilizer, and new fluids both axles, then finished with an alignment recently

-Obviously the truck rides very well, tracks straight, and emanates  no noises.

-New wheels and tires. Tires are the most expensive in you can buy in this size at $950 for the set. 31x10.5 all terrain BFG's, mounted on alloy wheels. I do have original white wheels. Again not many expenses spared on the wheel/tire combo.

Drive Train-

Drive train is very solid, and produces no od noise, no leaks, and uses no fluids. It can be driven with great confidence.

-The original 20r was said to have been remanufactured by the original owner I bought it from approx. 20K miles ago. I have removed the valve cover and oil pan to inspect. The motor was incredibly clean inside and presented as new "shiny aluminum in the head, no sludge to found". This was followed by a compression test and excellent results recorded. These can be backed by photos if you would like.

-The original 4 speed was swapped in favor of a five speed. The tranny was resealed with new input/output seals, and filled with synchromesh fluid. It was purchased from a low miles truck, and shift very well with no grids or leaks.

-The clutch was new, however I removed it and installed a warranted brand new clutch. There were no leaks, however I still replaced the rear main seal, surfaced flywheel, and replaced pilot bearing/throw out bearing.

-Exhaust replaced using all stainless-steel components for a life time of trouble free service. Again not many expenses spared, but I did not want any issues arising with this truck. This was not cheap, but looks great and sounds like factory.

-The original carb has been replaced with a much more reliable weber, and a rare offenhauser intake for better power.

-Full tune up using OEM parts, engine resealed, new belts, filter, fluids.

-Original manual steering was replaced with power steering system. Great improvement

-Gas tank removed, boiled out, and sealed to prevent any future issues.

Motor runs great, produces zero smoke, noises, and should provide the new owner with many years of reliable service.

-Interior

Not much to say here other than its probably the nicest and most original to be found.

-Completely gutted, and any missing, damaged trim/parts replaced with OEM new when available.

-The original dash had a 1/2 inch crack. This was not acceptable so a NEW, very hard to find original dash was sourced. Again I did not spare many expenses. So no worries of a dry ready to crack dash.

-The carpet was also replaced with a new pre-molded kit with sound deadening mat attached. Looks like new, with factory fit.

-Original AM/FM radio looks new, and works excellent. Both 4inch door speakers replaced with factory Toyota units. Sounds very good.

-Door cards looks as new with no damage to found.

-Windows/locks work excellent with no binding.

-Original seat always had a seat cover, looks new. One small rip on drivers side about 1 inch long was found. Seat was dismantled and sent to upholstery shop for the repair, upgraded foam, and now looks new. It is an unnoticeable fix, and perfect color match.

- Dash was removed to ensure all wiring was tidy, gauges checked, all lights were replaced, and all heat controls lubricated.

In summary this truck is in fantastic condition and is ready to serve its new owner with many fun weekends camping, or daily driving if you desire. Although a lot of money and time was invested, this truck is not brand new and does have a couple minor flaws. These include, 2 small rock chips in glass and possibly a light scratch or two.

Note I do have the original white oem Toyota wheels for the truck, and new Kobalt locking tool box, and original carb that can be included for a small additional fee. Clean title in my name, and all original manuals/tools.

The reserve it set at less than half the cost to drop this off at of a restoration facility, and have completely gone through. Not to mention the cost of buying a solid truck to start with.

Located in Portland Oregon. Feel free to call with questions,  but do not call just to "discuss" your Toyota hobby. I only have time to talk to real buyers. Thank you

Ford predicts it will finish 2013 as top-selling US brand

Mon, 30 Dec 2013

Ford is ready to call the ball on its 2013 sales totals, predicting a first-place finish for units sold in the US for a single brand. The company anticipates selling more than 2.4 million vehicles when all vehicle sales over the last 12 months have been tallied, repeating the victory it trumpeted over Toyota last year.
According to Ford's accounting, it sold 329,677 more vehicles than did Toyota in 2012. This year, the Blue Oval expects that margin to grow; through the end of November, Ford says it has outsold Toyota by 396,041 units.
Retail sales of Ford products are projected to exceed 1.7 million units for 2013 (the best retail result in 6 years for the company), with passenger cars accounting for 600k of that total. The redesigned Fusion is expected to crest the 290k mark, and the Fiesta is said to be ready to hit a model-record of 70k-plus. Meanwhile, utility vehicles and trucks are still paying a lot of bills in Dearborn, with the new Escape racking up an expected 300k sales and F-Series trucks chugging along at 688,810 units sold thru November.

Heavily updated 2015 Toyota Camry to bow in New York

Thu, 27 Mar 2014

Looks like the new, "more emotional" Toyota Camry designer Kevin Hunter talked about back in January is going to arrive very soon, with news that Toyota's bread-and-butter sedan will be getting an update in just a few weeks time at the 2014 New York Auto Show.
"On April 16 at the New York International Auto Show, we will make an important announcement about America's best-selling car, the Toyota Camry," said Curt McAllister, Toyota product news manager, in an emailed statement. Considering the high-profile nature of the NYAS - not to mention the competition that will be shown there - it makes sense that Toyota would choose to unveil something as significant as a major refresh at the Javits Center.
We wish we had more to tell you than this, but unfortunately, that's about all we've got to go on at this time. Of course, we'll have much more for you during the lead up to NYAS, including any leaks of the refreshed Camry. Stay tuned.

Toyota RAV4 "Adventure" brings the butch

Tue, 05 Mar 2013

Just last week, your humble author had a 2013 Toyota RAV4 in his garage, and he couldn't help noting that even in mid-level XLE trim, its aesthetics lacked oomph, due in large part to its cheap-looking black bumpers and airy-looking wheel wells. Judging by the RAV4 "Adventure" on display at the Geneva Motor Show, someone at Toyota must've been thinking the same thing.
With Japan's biggest automaker understandably focused on bigger reveals, information on this butched-up softroader has proven to be hard to come by, with no press materials whatsoever. We don't even know if this is a pure concept or if it's actually being considered for production. Either way, we approve. The 20-inch dark-finish alloys probably don't do much for ride quality, but they certainly look nicely aggressive, as does the new lower fascia with its prominent lower lip. Other changes include beefier wheel arches, side rails, headlamps with integrated LEDs, twin-element fog lamps and mesh grille inserts. All of the changes are quite well integrated - enough so that the Adventure largely avoids looking like a SEMA refugee in person.
