61,400 miles ago, this 1987 Toyota Supra came off the assembly line with a turbo-charged 230 horsepower engine. It has the preferred R154 five-speed manual transmission and leather interior. It’s always been stored indoors and kept up on its service.

This Mark III Supra Turbo features a 7M-GTE inline 6 cylinder 24 valve engine that is loved by many. Featuring many of the state of the art electronic systems of the time, like 3 channel ABS and TEMS adjustable suspension; these cars are very enjoyable to drive. This also features a removable Targa roof panel.

My dad was the original owner of this Supra, and aside from the brand new custom rims and tires, it is entirely original - inside and out. The engine starts right up and quickly accelerates through all the gears with ease.  There is some interior wear on the left side of the driver seat and on the shift knob; but overall, the interior is in excellent shape.  The paint is original; and well maintained. There are some chips on the hood and along the bottom of the doors. The rubber seals and gaskets for the roof, windows and doors are in great shape.  All the features, including electronic windows, seats with lumbar support, mirrors, climate control, TEMS suspension, and gauges operate as new. This car was very well-built.

Dad loved the power and performance of the car. He was a collector, but drove it on and off through the years, taking very good care of it.  If it continues to receive the sort of care its one owner has given it, it may last forever.  It’s been a tough decision to sell it, but it’s spending way too much time in my garage.

You are welcome to have it inspected prior to the end of the auction. This is a cash only deal, and the buyer will be responsible for pick-up or arranging shipping.

Toyota tops Consumer Reports best, worst used car values

Tue, 18 Mar 2014

We often mock Toyota for building boring, soulless cars, but a new study by Consumer Reports suggests that regardless of whether that's true, the company has some of the best used cars on the market. In its report on used cars from 2004-2013, the Japanese automaker had 11 vehicles among its brands on the list - more than any other automaker.
CR breaks the list down by cost and vehicle size, and Toyota has at least one entry at every price point and in nearly every segment. To score a recommendation, a vehicle had to perform well in the magazine's initial tests and score above-average reliability results. It also tried to only suggest cars with electronic stability control. Of the 28 recommended vehicles, Honda/Acura had the second most mentions at six, and Ford, Hyundai and Subaru managed two each.
The Detroit brands also made it to the list, but not in a positive way. Consumer Reports compiled a list of 22 vehicles it wouldn't recommend because "they have multiple years of much-worse-than-average overall reliability." General Motors had the most unrecommended models on the list at six, but Chrysler and Ford weren't far behind, with five cars each from their brands not making the grade. The full list of recommendations is available on CR's website.

Toyota nears $40B cash reserve as calls grow for new investment, payouts

Wed, 05 Feb 2014

With the April 15 tax deadline just a few months away, our US readers will be faced with a decision should they get a refund: save or spend? It seems this issue is one many of us face whenever there's a windfall, trying to decide whether we should set the money aside in an account of some sort or use it as a down payment on a new car or a trip to the Apple store. Unsurprisingly, major corporations face a similar, albeit more complex, issue.
Take Toyota, for example. With President Akio Toyoda at the helm, the Japanese manufacturer has gracefully weathered recalls and natural disasters, all while turning beaucoup profits. Last quarter, profits quintupled to 434.4-billion yen ($4.3-billion USD), according to Bloomberg. Toyota also upped its forecast for the end of fiscal year 2013 (which ends on March 31 for Japan), to a record 1.9-trillion yen (about $18.8 billion). Now, the Japanese brand is reportedly sitting on a cash pile of nearly $40 billion, leaving Toyoda-san in an envious predicament - what should the company do with all that money?
Some think Toyota should be doing something, anything with that big stack of cash.

Has the auto industry hit peak hybrid?

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

Hybrids are known for their great fuel economy and low emissions, but it looks like given current market conditions, only about three percent of new car consumers are willing to pay the premium for them. A new study from IHS/Polk finds that the hybrid market share among overall US auto sales are falling, despite more models with the technology on sale than ever before.
The study examined new car registrations in March from 2009 through 2014. In that time, the auto industry grew from 24 to 47 hybrid models available to consumers, but market share for the powertrain remained almost stagnant in that time. As of 2009, hybrids held 2.4 percent of the market; it fell slightly to 2.3 percent in 2010 and grew to 3.3 percent in 2013. However, 2014 showed a drop back to 3 percent. Overall hybrid sales have been growing since 2010, but they just aren't keeping up with the total auto market.
According to IHS/Polk, this isn't what you would expect to see. Usually, each new model in the market brings along with it a boost in sales. The growth in hybrid models 2009 to 2014 should have shown a larger increase in share for the segment.
