1990 Toyota Supra Turbo 1jz-gte, Single Turbo, R154, Targa, Clean Title on 2040-cars

Clarksville, Tennessee, United States

For sale is a 1990 Toyota Supra, factory turbo model, targa, OEM silver paint (paint code 176), clean TN title in hand, no liens, no known history of accidents, 197,000 miles on chassis, roughly 70,000 miles on motor and trans.  The car received a 1JZ-GTE swap (Non VVTI) in late 2007 by a performance shop in California. The car was also re-sprayed in the OEM color around the same time. The car has had the same owner for the past 6+ years (was purchased while the car was being swapped with 1JZ), and has been driven almost 20,000 miles since receiving the 1JZ swap. The car has only been used in the past six years as a warm weather car, and has been kept at home during the Winter months (usually from late November to early March. The car is only being sold due to a lack of interest and space.

The head-gasket was replaced with a new factory head-gasket, ARP head studs, and the head was machined slightly as part of preventive maintenance by a performance shop Texas in June of 2008. The original OEM head gasket was in perfect shape, and the car has no overheated since having the 1JZ swap. The car received a single turbo in 2009 as result from the rear turbo having a blown seals (a common problem for CT12s). In 2011 the car received a T4 turbo setup, and the Drift Motion 57trim was added in 2012 to give the car a balanced power-band.  Some of the invoices for parts and labor will be included, this includes the head-work from Del's Performance in 2008.

The car currently runs extremely well, with no mechanical problems except for needing a alignment, which the car will receive before being sold. The engine is healthy, no leaks, no smoke, has a broad power-band, and performs well under boost. The car typically has positive pressure around 2500 RPM, and reaches full around 4000 RPM.  The exhaust is custom 3 inch, and is relatively quiet; it can barely be heard outside of the cabin while driving.  In June of 2012 the made 354 whp, 330 torque at 16 pounds on a Dyno Dynamics, which typically reads 15% lower than a Dyno Jet. The only major change since being on the dyno is replacing the Tial with a generic 46mm waste-gate.  The transmission has no grinds, shifts well in every gear, and is showing no signs of fatigue. The clutch works well, and holds the power with no problems. Overall, the car still has plenty of untapped potential it could reach by adding only a few modifications such as; 550cc injectors, USDM 2JZ cams or Brain Crower cams, and possibly a stand alone EMS.

Aesthetically, the car could use a good quality respray. The resprayed paint overall looks ok at best. The exterior and interior look good for the age of the car, but the car has several smaller dents, the dash has a crack, the carpet has significant wear, and the steering wheel has aged. The currently has a black dash pad, and a better looking steering wheel will be included. There is no rust (SoCal car) and no body damage.

The cost of parts to convert a MA70 to a 1JZ using a single turbo will typically cost an average of $7,000 or more in parts. This is not even factoring the cost of a shell or the necessary supporting modifications.  It is also rare for a 1JZ swapped MA70 to be sold on eBay.  Feel free to ask questions related to the car's condition. Thanks for looking.

Toyota drops detail about 414-hp Hybrid-R concept powertrain

Fri, 30 Aug 2013

The Toyota Yaris Hybrid-R Concept has been teased already, offering up little glimpses and details of the Frankfurt-bound vehicle. And while those few, shadowy shots have been great, we've really wanted to know how this hatchback would deliver its promised 400-plus horsepower. Under hood sits a 1.6-liter, race-derived, direct-injection, turbocharged four-cylinder that powers the front wheels. Sounds peachy, but with 414 horsepower splashed across the page, we're going to need something more than a 1.6-liter, turbo four.
A supercapacitor, developed from the Toyota TS030 Hybrid Le Mans racer sits in place of a hybrid's traditional battery packs. The benefit, according to Toyota, is that power can be more rapidly absorbed and discharged than in a traditional battery system, like nickel metal-hydride.
The gas engine is joined by a trio of 60-horsepower electric motors. Two of the them power the rear wheels, while the third sits between the engine and the six-speed, sequential gearbox. Developing the same amount of power as the rear-axle motors, this centrally located motor channels power to the race-derived supercapacitor during braking, and ships extra grunt to the rear wheels under acceleration when the front wheels start to lose grip. Besides the distributive power of the central motor, the rear electric motors can adjust the amount of torque flowing to each wheel, much like a differential.
