This FJ60 Land Cruiser is a rare find. It has the highly sought after 350 Chevy conversion ($6000) and the engine has only around 45000 miles on it and does not leak oil. It's great to open the hood and see the simple Chevy 8-cylinder instead of the miles of tubing and emissions equipment on the original 2F engines.  This conversion gives you better mileage and more power. And if you ever need to work on it, parts are readily available and super-cheap.  Transmission is AUTOMATIC!  It is the turbo-hydromatic 400.The vehicle itself has approximately 180000 miles and is in great shape. Little to no rust. It lacks the typical problems of FJs of this era (no sagging headliner, no cracked seats, no rust). Tires are very new and have half a nickel of tread.  Air-conditioning blows ice cold.  It drives straight as an arrow.  Never been in an accident!  Lack of rust is due to the fact that this FJ grew up in California.  I bought it from a guy in Sacramento about a year ago and brought it to Minneapolis.

The bad:  Speedometer doesn't work very well when it's cold, and the blinker does not turn off on its own after a left turn.  You have to manually move it back.  Salvage title is due to the fact it was stolen and stripped to nothing (**not due to being in an accident**).  A body shop bought it and rebuilt it with the new engine, transmission, interior, wheels in 1999.  If you see and drive it, you will clearly realize it has never been in an accident.  Previous owner will confirm this information if necessary.

2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser Ultimate Edition

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

Introduced at the end of 2006, this is the last year for the Toyota FJ Cruiser, the reincarnated FJ40-series Land Cruiser that will shortly journey to Takama-ga-hara, the Plain of High Heaven. In its first model year, we drove it to SEMA and found it, shall we say, coarse. It bobbled on the freeway and droned in the cabin, its boxy interior providing four bounce-boards for unpleasant frequencies. Tall mirrors helped one work around the eclipse of vision aft of the B-pillars, but navigating traffic required forethought and technique. Its turning circle was measured in kilometers. For the first two years of its life, it needed premium gas. It may have been fun to look at, but we couldn't wait to get out of it.
That's not the case anymore, and now the FJ Cruiser is poised to join a long list of vehicles that got better and better, then got axed.

Toyota Camry re-earns CR 'Recommended' rating following crash tests

Thu, 19 Dec 2013

All is right again in the Toyota kingdom. The Japanese manufacturer's bread-and-butter sedan, the Camry, has been put back on Consumer Reports' "Recommended" vehicle list, following improved performance in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's crash testing.
You'll recall that the 2012 and 2013 Camry were infamously booted from the list due to "Poor" ratings in IIHS' notoriously tough small-overlap crash testing. Toyota vowed - just last week actually - to fix the ratings. As the Toyota brand's head, Bill Fay, said last week, "It's still a five-star car. It still does very well in all the IIHS tests. It did not in [the small overlap frontal crash test], and we're busy making the necessary adjustments so that we can address that."
Now, though, those redesigned cars have been tested, earning an "Acceptable" rating in the overlap testing. According to Consumer Reports, Camrys built from November 2013 on feature new internal structures that improve the car's crash test scores enough to make it a "Recommended" buy. IIHS has also elevated the car back to a position in its Top Safety Pick category, although it falls short of the new gold standard, the Top Safety Pick + rating.

Toyota discontinuing FJ Cruiser after 2014 model year

Tue, 20 Aug 2013

The Toyota FJ Cruiser is not long for this world. According to the manufacturer's own fleet website, the rugged FJ will be discontinued after the 2014 model year, with the companies final orders due in June of next year.
Toyota first launched the FJ Cruiser in 2006 as a 2007 model, and aside from minor year-over-year changes, it has not been substantially updated. The FJ is the modern successor to the original FJ40 Land Cruiser that Toyota produced from the 1960s all the way up through 1984, when the automaker decided to better focus on its larger, four-door Land Cruiser line. Currently, it uses a 4.0-liter V6 engine with either rear- or four-wheel drive, and is available with either a five-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission. Interestingly, word of the FJ's demise comes not long after Toyota's US boss, Bill Fay, reaffirmed his company's commitment to body-on-frame trucks in late July.
Also of interest, Toyota's fleet website states that the 2014 model year Prius range will have "minor updates," though it's unclear what those are as of this writing. When Autoblog reached out to confirm these developments with Toyota, spokesman Curt McCallister reminded us, "As is our corporate policy, we don't discuss future products beyond the present or upcoming model year."
