For Sale: TOYFJ40 - 1977 Toyota FJ40 350 Chevy V8 conversion

This FJ40 turns heads at every light and has been known to attract beautiful women. I have owned this Toyota for 11 years and have stripped body and frame down to bare metal for restoration. The highlights from below are a high-end Barrett-Jackson level professional paint job and bodywork (no rivet dimples), Chevrolet 350 V8 crate engine, Ranger 2 Speed Overdrive, Power steering and Power brakes. There is a lot of more detail that went into this build. It has been garage-kept for as long as I have owned it. There are less than 5K miles on the re-build/restoration.

Building this 4 wheeler was somewhat of a mid-life crisis project for me, as I built it in the image of the 1975 FJ40 I owned during my college years. The personalized license plate reads TOYFJ40. My intentions were to never sell it. Unfortunately, the number of grandkids I now have exceeds the seating capacity of the 40 and it has forced the issue. I have organized receipts for nearly everything I have spent on this vehicle and some documentation from the previous owner. The guy I bought it from said it would never win any shows. Honestly, this is the cleanest, most tastefully customized Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 you will find anywhere; the other guys who say that about theirs are lying. Just kidding. There are other nice custom 40s out there at this level, but there is no doubt this one is a 1 per center. If the nicest FJ40 around is what you are looking for, then this is it.

Thieves still love older Hondas and pickups most, says NICB [w/video]

Wed, 20 Aug 2014

No one wants to have their car stolen, but a new study by the National Insurance Crime Bureau has some bad news for older Honda owners and pickup drivers. Fortunately, it has better news for drivers overall. The group is reporting that according to preliminary data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, thefts were down 3.2 percent in 2013 (versus 2012) to fewer than 700,000 cars. That's the lowest figure since 1967. That's also less than half of the peak of over 1.66 million thefts in 1991. "The drop in thefts is good news for all of us," says NICB President and CEO Joe Wehrle. "But it still amounts to a vehicle being stolen every 45 seconds and losses of over $4 billion a year."
Honda drivers might not find it such good news with older Accord and Civic models topping this year's theft study. Toyota and Dodge can't really celebrate, either, with two models each on the list, as well. Overall, this year's list was split evenly between foreign and domestic models, which were mostly pickups.
The 10 most likely vehicles to be stolen in 2013 were:

Toyota's Euro Aygo spied in prototype form

Thu, 22 Aug 2013

The five-door version of the next-generation Toyota Aygo, a Euro offering cloned by the Peugeot 107 and Citroën C1, has been caught out on the town wearing all black. Facelifted early last year, predictions are that the next version of the city car will be slightly lower and wider than the current car, with improved ergonomics and materials. Based on what little can be seen for now, a new intake and headlight treatment should be on the menu in front, with taillights placed higher on its backside.
A three-door version is expected, but a gasoline-hybrid model is also rumored, along with power and fuel economy improvements to the three-cylinder engine that presently puts out 67 horsepower and 69 pound-feet of torque.
We should see it next year, along with the new Citroën C1 and Peugeot 108.

Toyota unintended acceleration lawsuit settled for $16M

Mon, 08 Apr 2013

Slowly, the many loose threads still dangling after the unintended acceleration issue Toyota faced a few years ago are being resolved. The Orange County District Attorney's office was believed to be the first DA's office to take Toyota to court, its suit alleging that Toyota knew its cars had defects and continued to sell them. The suit sought to "permanently enjoin Toyota from continued unlawful, unfair, deceptive, and fraudulent business practices as it pertains to both consumers and competitors" and asked for $2,500 "for every violation of the Unfair Business Practices Act," plus costs.
That suit has now been settled, Toyota - without admitting fault or wrongdoing - agreeing to pay $16 million to the county. Half of the money will go to the Orange County Gang Reduction Intervention Partnership, another four million dollars to the OC DA's office to investigate economic crime, the remaining four million being used to pay for the case.
