Toyota Land Cruiser restoration shop offers this 1974 FJ40. This is a mostly original paint stock FJ40. I bought this from the original owner’s widow in the rural mountains of Idaho. The truck had been sitting for 14 years; the owner’s son did the proper storage by draining all the fluids at that time. I brought this truck back to life. It spent 11 weeks in my shop going through everything. I kept it as stock as possible, just adding a newer style FJ40 electronic ignition system. If you are looking for an honest clean stock uncut original paint FJ40 and don’t want to spend huge dollars for a perfect restored unit, this is for you. I used Toyota original parts in what I call a preservation restoration. This truck is turn-key, daily driving ready. 1974 model year are emissions exempt in most states including California. This is an investment grade original truck.

NO RESERVE AUCTION BID TO BUY!!!  I have 3 other FJ40’s for sale on eBay right now.

HISTORY

I was buying a 78 FJ40 in Idaho when I got a random call from an 89 year old lady asking me if I’m that guy buying Land Cruisers. She lives off the grid and came down to the nearest city of Kamiah Idaho to call me from a payphone (ever see payphones anymore?) She had so much spunk it was funny, she tells me about this FJ40 her deceased husband bought brand new, then is quick to tell me she knows they are worth good money so don’t F*** with her in those exact words. So, I drive to her home, up a 35% incline switch back gravel road with my 40ft gooseneck, ruining 2 tires around 7 miles in the back country. Could not back my trailer out so here we go.  Found it, bought it, great lady, pics on the link and last pic is how I bought it at her home. I winched it on my trailer, I was so happy to find this FJ40, never know what to expect with no pictures and a very vague description in the middle of nowhere. Her husband loved this truck and it shows, it was parked in the same spot for 14 years before I got to it. She was so happy with the cash I paid her, she was going to town to get her girlfriend and head to the bingo parlor.  I love this part of my job, pleasure to meet great people.

MECHANICAL

I went through the proper procedure bringing a vehicle back to life after sitting for years.  Oiled down the cylinders, let it sit for a few days, rolled it over by hand, rebuilt the original carburetor, removed/sealed gas tank, added a new radiator, and added newer FJ40 electronic distributor and ignition. Fired right up, sounded great. Compression excellent, valves adjusted, runs like a Swiss watch. 4 speed Trans/case operate perfectly. We pulled out all the wheel cylinders/brakes/brake master, replaced all of it. New joints and boots.  We rebuilt the front and rear end with all Toyota parts (bearings, seals etc), changed all the fluids. We rewired most of the truck. We spent a lot of time getting this vehicle to a good running/driving state. Brand new complete exhaust system. I added any missing parts from my extensive FJ40 parts collection. We rebuilt anything that needed attention.

BODY

I recovered the original Toyota front seats. I added new Toyota wheel caps to stock wheels and excellent tread 31.10.50.15 siped mud tires. This is a radio delete model and has the original stereo hole cover. I installed a new windshield and gasket. The exterior body is original paint.   I sanded the inside of the tub, sealed/primed/painted as it had surface rust. We distressed the new paint inside the tub to give it that original patina look to match the rest of the vehicle.  We buffed out the original paint. Preserving the patina look takes about the same amount of time as a new paint job, could not bring myself to repaint this one, only original once. The underside of the body is undercoated with a thin product that seals very well. We media blasted the wheels/bumper/bumperettes and a few internal body pieces before priming and painting. The body is all original to this truck. I left the sticker on the driver door, if you do not like it, I will take it off and buff it out to match the rest of the paint. The factory dimple spot welds are all evident, you know what you have body wise with original paint/body.

Finding stock type FJ40’s is getting extremely hard. The prices on all FJ40’s have gone nuts in the past few years, with the stock types leading the charge. Original paint uncut not rusty FJ40’s in a realistic price range are the easiest vintage vehicle to sell. Projections from everyone in the car world say the values will continue to rise.  I scour all types of classifieds, pass out cards in every rural town I’m in, my point is the only luck I have these days are buying from people off the grid whom have owned these for many years. Otherwise they are usually beat up or chopped up being through several owners.  People that own good FJ40’s tend to keep them, getting very hard to buy them. This is your chance to own a clean FJ40 that has never been offered on the public market since 1974.

I require a $1500 non-refundable deposit immediately after auction conclusion. The rest wire transfer or cashier’s check within 5 days closed auction.  I hold a clear clean WA state title in hand for this truck. I welcome 3rd party inspections during the auction, winning is not 1st chance to look. I own Auto Appraisals & Pre-Buy Inspections so skip me in the phone book. I have a shipping broker whom I trust, will pass his info to you, he only does lower 48, I can get this to Alaska Hawaii or other countries as well.  Payment will be made to my business.

2014 Toyota Corolla debuts with more power, interior space

Fri, 07 Jun 2013

Depending on who you ask, the best-selling car in the world is either the Ford Focus or Toyota Corolla. Not surprisingly, Toyota claims it's the Corolla. Either way, we're talking around a million individual units per year, and over 40 million over the car's lifetime on the market, so the redesign of Toyota's compact sedan is big-time news for the Japanese automaker that it needs to get right.
The Toyota Corolla was last redesigned way back in 2008, meaning the 2014 model is a long-overdue update to the C-segment sedan. Its age shows when compared to newer rivals like the Honda Civic, Chevy Cruze, Hyundai Elantra and the aforementioned Ford Focus when comparing technology features, fuel mileage and interior roominess. In an effort to solve those demerits, Toyota has added nearly four inches to the 2014 Corolla's wheelbase and will offer a new continuously variable transmission with seven simulated gear ratios.
Engine choices consist of two available 1.8-liter four-cylinder units, one with 132 horsepower and 128 pound-feet of torque, and another more efficient version that uses Toyota's new Valvematic technology to offer 140 horses and 126 lb-ft of torque. Eco and Sport modes will be selectable by the driver.

Toyota fills in details about its future design direction and global platform

Fri, 25 Oct 2013

"In the future, out of 100 customers, we want to excite ten of them instead of not offending all 100."
Almost all of the details about the Toyota New Group Architecture (TNGA) strategy have come out since the initiative was first reported on in March of this year, but Autoblog did learn a few new things about it on a recent trip to Japan. Probably the second-most important detail is that each new segment platform will be based around a common hip point to create an "optimal driving position architecture."

Legal approach in $1.2 billion Toyota settlement could impact handling of GM recall cases

Wed, 26 Mar 2014

In the past, if an automaker did something wrong, they were usually prosecuted by the US government through something called the TREAD Act. Short for Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation Act, it basically requires automakers to report recalls in other countries, along with any and all serious injuries or deaths, to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Failing to report or attempting to conceal anything when there's been a death or serious injury constitutes a criminal liability. The idea is that this setup puts the onus on manufacturers to keep NHTSA apprised of safety related issues before they become a problem in the US, thereby allowing the regulator to better protect consumers.
In theory, it sounds like a relatively airtight set of rules for dealing with misbehaving automakers. That didn't stop the US Department of Justice from ignoring TREAD in its prosecution of Toyota's handling of the unintended acceleration recall, though. The result of this new approach, which charged Toyota with wire fraud, was a $1.2 billion settlement. Now, the wire-fraud approach could be used for the expected case between the US government and General Motors, based on the statements of Attorney General Eric Holder, who specifically mentioned "similarly situated companies" when discussing Toyota.
