1971 Land Cruiser FJ40
One Owner from Southern California! 42K Miles

1971 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser with very, very low miles. I found this truck in Southern Califonia with the original and only owner!  He and his wife only used for camping and beach runs 2-3 times per year.  Thus, we have a one owner, documented 42xxx mile FJ on its original CA Pink Slip with original dealer Bill of Sale.  Yes, still has a Pink Slip!  Complete numbers matching FJ with all original parts…. Perfect for restoration!

Over the years, the owner has maintained the truck and it only shows signs of living in the sun for 43 years.

Slight surface rust can be sanded away and absolutely no body decay.
No oil leaks!  Normal engine seepage but not dripping on the ground.
3 Speed Manual Trans pulls strong in all gears

Good tires with Aftermarket black mods and original spare
Needs windshield wipers and right side motor
Complete tune up has been done

Dash is in excellent condition, no cracks.
Floor is in great condition, Just needs fresh paint
Kenwood Cassette Am/Fm radio.
All gages, horn, and lights work excellent.
All seats and Drivers seat are original and in great condition.
Doors are all original and in excellent condition.
All glass is original, windshield has small bullseye and others are in excellent condition.  All windows roll up smoothly.
All weather stripping needs to be replaced

Paint is 43 years old and shows signs it was painted about 20 years ago. Just needs new paint.
Bumpers are clean and rust free with no dents.
All original lights in great condition.
All rain gutters are clean with normal surface rust but no recon needed.
All window rails are in great condition

The motor and trans are in excellent condition with only 42xxx miles on it. She runs and drives great with no smoke, no smell and no vibrations.  She could be truly a cream puff after restore. The new owner will be very happy with this original, one owner FJ40.

Are you the facelifted Toyota Yaris?

Fri, 28 Mar 2014

As basic transportation goes, there's not a lot to complain about with the Toyota Yaris. The five-door hatch (not to mention its JDM cousin, the Vitz) are due for upgrades, though, having toddled along in its current form since the 2011 model year. Now, we have what looks to be leaked images of the new Yaris, straight from a Japanese brochure.
The next-gen Yaris was previewed in Frankfurt by the Yaris Hybrid-R Concept. Surprisingly, both the standard version and the RS (shown above) share a strong resemblance with the Frankfurt concept. That gaping lower intake remains, while a pointy, sharp front end shares a resemblance with the new Aygo city car (though the Yaris won't have a giant X on its face like its smaller cousin). The lower intake is flanked by a pair of what we're guessing are non-functional grilles, which house the fog lights. There are only a few small images of the rear of the car, which looks more like an evolution of the current five-door hatch.
The interior looks rather racy, with a small, thick-rimmed, leather-wrapped steering wheel and black cloth seats with red contrast stitching. There's a bright red button to the right of the steering wheel on this right-hand-drive JDM model, which could indicate the arrival of pushbutton start. Under hood of this Mazda-built Toyota should be a Mazda Skyactiv engine. That gives us hope that this latest Toyota compact will be imbued with some sense of driving fun.

Toyota's Psy-style Waku-Doki ad inherits Japan's bizarre ad crown

Tue, 29 Jul 2014

A new Japanese Toyota ad featuring crisply suited businessmen driving into the jungle only to segue into a Psy-style music-video dance-off with a gorilla and natives is the latest car commercial to go viral. Jungle Wakudoki is the newest installment in a grand tradition of bizarre ads from the island nation that are by turns hilarious, head-scratching and occasionally even frightening.
Let's face it: My people are weird.
I'm half-Japanese and take suitable pride in my Asian roots, but even I can't figure out what's been slipped into the water coolers of the country's ad agencies much of the time - or the nation at large, for that matter. From Japan's ubiquitous obsession with all things adorable (kawaii) to its offbeat sense of humor and its bizarrely perverse and violent tentacle porn, it's clear there's a lot going on in the culture, and only some of it bubbles up to the surface in its marketing efforts. Much of the strangest and most amazing ads are for non-transportation products (e.g. laundry soap, snacks, energy drinks), but the automotive space has its fair share. This latest Toyota ad had me trawling YouTube for a common theme, trying to make sense of why these spots are the way they are. Scroll down to watch the Toyota ad in question as well as a bunch of other examples of Japan's most bizarre car-related ads and see if you can't find the thread that runs between them. Is it just that something's being lost in translation? Have your say in Comments.

Audi, Toyota land on MIT's list of 50 Most Disruptive Companies

Sat, 23 Feb 2013

MIT Technology Review, a magazine all about innovation, has announced its list of the 50 most disruptive companies in 2013, and both Audi and Toyota made the cut. While the term "most disruptive" may carry a negative connotation in most uses (especially in the classroom), the acknowledgement in this case is an accolade, signifying that the company is at the forefront of its industry. In a nutshell, a disruptive company is a business whose innovations force other businesses to alter their strategic direction.
Audi made the list for "pushing autonomous cars closer to fruition with a laser-scanning road detector that fits in a vehicle's front grille," and Toyota for "expanding its dominance of the hybrid-car market with its new plug-in version of the Prius." Click on the image above to be taken to the original graphic at MIT Technology Review, where clickable colored squares reveal information about each of the 50 winners, compiled from a variety of industries.
