1962 FJ40 / EXTREMELY RARE FULL RESTORATION.>>> Above please see links to IH8MUD Forum that outlines the build over the past year. The MUD thread also tells the story of this cruiser. There is just volumes of stuff you can review.>>> I can tell you this much just off the bat. The cruiser sat in a Steamboat Springs, Colorado barn for 44 years with busted flywheel teeth and a busted column shifter from 1968 to 2012 when I bought it. I bought it in August 2012, pulled it out of the barn, shipped it to my home in California and began ( with a team of very experienced professionals ) the FULL RESTORATION of this all stock original. >>>The Land Cruiser had 99% of all its original parts from the factory, NO cancer rust, No dents and just over 44k miles on it. I was able to restore it back to 100% STOCK. Finding even 1% of the UNOBTAINIUM was a chore in itself, sometimes taking weeks to locate simple items in order to keep it period correct. I even hired a company to build me a new period correct battery from 1962. It was a perfect candidate for a restoration in my opinion. I have owned 22 Land Cruisers since 1974 but this 1962 is by far the rarest I have owned.>>> I was extremely happy to be able to restore the cruiser back to 100% stock original, just like it came off the factory floor. Even the original 52 year old hose clamps were restored.>>> From our estimation there have only been perhaps 2 other 1962 FJ40 hardtops that have been restored to factory specs. Toyota brought in approx. 500 to the United States. We have been able to track down only about 27 still on the road. 1961 - 1962 was the FIRST TIME Toyota built the classic beloved FJ40 Land Cruiser. Things changed after 1962 making this cruiser extremely rare.>>> PLEASE email me if you want more PICTURES, MORE DETAILED INFORMATION.>>> All receipts from the build will go to the winning bidder and again PLEASE clik onto MUD links above and see all the info you will want to see.>>> Based on what we spent over the past year combined with the extraordinary efforts of: Two ASE Master Mechanics, A Powder Coating / Sandblasting Company, An Auto Upholstery Company, A well respected Painter and a highly skilled Plating Company I feel the reserve is set correctly. I cannot give the cruiser away, we need to make at least a little bit of profit and it is our hope that this Museum Quality Restoration will find a good home with an avid Collector or a Museum of some sort.>>> Please note that all questions will be posted for others to see. I will NOT post your name or email address though, just your question. I just want full disclosure and expect there to be a bunch of Ebay questions.>>> I have MANY MANY BEFORE and AFTER pics if you want to see them. Just email me with your request.>>> Feel free also to send over a properly licensed mobile mechanic to meet with us and to review the cruiser.>>> Good luck bidding.>>> THE VIN NUMBER IS 2FJ4015829 and the ENGINE NUMBER IS F168768. Please note that both Vin and Engine match the proper year 1962 and engine is complete original to the cruiser.>>> Also please note that the Engine, Transmission and Transfer Case have been rebuilt and restored.>>>  BY THE WAY, YOU WILL SEE A PICTURE IN THIS EBAY AUCTION OF THE CRUISER IN THE ORIGINAL BARN BEFORE I TRANSPORTED IT HOME. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ORIGINAL OWNER PAINTED THE LAND CRUISER LIGHT BLUE, PAINTED THE ROOF ORANGE AND THE BEZEL ORANGE SO AS TO MATCH HIS FLEET OF 3 LAND CRUISERS USED FOR HIS HUNTING BUSINESS. THE CRUISER WAS ORIGINALLY LILY WHITE T-403 CODE AND AS YOU SEE THAT IS THE COLOR I TOOK IT BACK TO. LILY WHITE T-403 IS THE FACTORY COLOR AND THE WAY IT CAME OFF THE FACTORY LINE IN 1962.

ATTENTION: I was asked how old the restoration is. It was finished about 1 week ago. There is approx. 20 miles on the cruiser since the build was completed. Those were TEST miles. Any questions? Let me know.

Here a few Q & A: Apparently there is a tech issue at the moment so I will just post them here for your review. Thanks, Globalvu3nn3.

Dear globalvu3nn3,

Q: The truck looks perfect. What price are you trying to get? Any issues at all? Any weekend projects on the truck that need to be done?

A:Hi,,,,,,,,The Cruiser has been fully restored so yes, it is about as perfect as it can get at this point. There are no issues at all as everything has been restored. No weekend projects that need to be done except driving it through the countryside and enjoying it. lol. Price? Well, see what I wrote in my other question/answer area on the auction site ( BELOW ). That should give you an idea. Thanks for your interest and happy bidding. If you want someone to have a look at it, check it out, or if you want more info then just let me know. Also, check out the MUD threads. The complete build is on there for the most part. A lot of info.

Scion FR-S Convertible (in Toyota GT86 form) spied in South Africa

Fri, 15 Feb 2013

Though the eventual existence of a convertible version of the Toyota GT86 (and its Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ versions for America) is a no-brainer, we've yet to get a glimpse of the real-deal car until now.
Spotted in Cape Town, South Africa, of all places, this completely undisguised GT86 convertible seems to be in a remarkably advanced state of development. The image seen here was obviously sniped from quite a distance and without the aid of a powerful lens, but we can still make out a production-ready looking piece of rear bodywork for the convertible top to hide away in, as well as a functioning trunk lid. It's hard to make out with any certainty, based on this evidence, but there does seem to be space retained behind the front seats for two, small rear chairs.
With the first car spotted, we'd expect to seem some more and better images of it flow through in the near future, and if not, Toyota has already confirmed a concept version for next month's Geneva Motor Show, dubbed FT-86 Open, so stay tuned. For now, click through to the FT86Club.com forum to have a slightly closer look at the images.

Watch a Camry driver in full road rage

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

There are vehicles that, fair or not, will forever be associated with jerky drivers. But as this very recent footage from an in-car camera shows, even the most mundane of sedans can be piloted by an ass.
In this video, the driver of one very beige Toyota Camry is driving like a person choked with rage. Though we don't see which (if any) actions by our camera car might have lead up to the tirade, we do see the Camry driver swerving from lane to lane, in multiple attempts to get in front of and brake check the couple in the recording.
According to the text associated with the YouTube video, the offending incident took place last week, on a section of I-880 near Fremont, CA. The uploader has gone so far as to include the date, time and license plate number of the Camry driver, in hopes, we guess, that some kind of legal action can be taken against him. Take a closer look for yourself in the video below.

Legal approach in $1.2 billion Toyota settlement could impact handling of GM recall cases

Wed, 26 Mar 2014

In the past, if an automaker did something wrong, they were usually prosecuted by the US government through something called the TREAD Act. Short for Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation Act, it basically requires automakers to report recalls in other countries, along with any and all serious injuries or deaths, to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Failing to report or attempting to conceal anything when there's been a death or serious injury constitutes a criminal liability. The idea is that this setup puts the onus on manufacturers to keep NHTSA apprised of safety related issues before they become a problem in the US, thereby allowing the regulator to better protect consumers.
In theory, it sounds like a relatively airtight set of rules for dealing with misbehaving automakers. That didn't stop the US Department of Justice from ignoring TREAD in its prosecution of Toyota's handling of the unintended acceleration recall, though. The result of this new approach, which charged Toyota with wire fraud, was a $1.2 billion settlement. Now, the wire-fraud approach could be used for the expected case between the US government and General Motors, based on the statements of Attorney General Eric Holder, who specifically mentioned "similarly situated companies" when discussing Toyota.
