What we have here is my Great Uncle's 1980 Toyota Corolla Liftback SR5, he passed away and left the car to me. I was excited to get started on this project until I realized two things: Minus a few details the car is basically perfect and it's not a project and I'm 6'4" and I just don't comfortably fit in this car without doing more modification than I would like.

The car is as complete as can be, the driver's seat just needs a good cleaning and then the interior is perfect. All interior lights work, the headliner is almost perfect, the dash isn't cracked, the radio works, and even that awful door ajar buzz works. Even the little passenger windows roll down. I'll even let you keep the Jennifer Lawrence issue of Vanity Fair in the backseat. The spare tire is there, the jack is there, to the best of my knowledge, everything is there including the manual.

Just to be sure, we took it to DTAutomotive in Santa Monica, they replaced a handful of things including: radiator, water pump, hoses, seals, clutch, flywheel service etc. etc. We spent just shy of $1,400 to make sure it was road worthy and ready to be driven anywhere. The shop said it wasn't even necessary, but, if we wanted it to be in tip top shape this is what they would do.

As far as mileage goes, to the absolute best of my knowledge it has just shy of 32,000 miles. He was a recluse, working at MGM up until the early 80's when he really stopped going out. I calculated out based off of where his apartment was to work, and, if had driven to work every day from when he bought the car new, it would just have 32,000 miles. His windshield service sticker backs this information up.

He was the original owner.

Toyota Sienna Swagger Wagon rides again with Busta Rhymes

Let's face it: there are few things less "gangsta" than a minivan (which goes a long way towards explaining why crossovers have been gradually taking their place as the family-hauler of choice across America, but we digress). The point here is not lost on Toyota, which has embraced the uncool image of the minivan with the Swagger Wagon campaign.
We first saw the suburban-goes-urban campaign pop up with the introduction of the new Sienna back in 2010. And now that the Sienna's been updated for 2015, the campaign is back again, featuring none other than Trevor Tahiem Smith, Jr. himself... better known to most as Busta Rhymes. The decidedly white-bread video spot that follows may make you cringe, but you've got to admit that it's well done, even if it doesn't have the charm and freshness of the original.

Report: Daihatsu leaving European market

More than any other, two carmaking giants sit at the top of the industry: Toyota and General Motors. But while GM sells under a (shrinking but still) expansive range of brands, the Toyota Motor Corporation sells most of its vehicles under its own name. That doesn't mean that Toyota, however, doesn't have its own portfolio of subsidiaries. Here in the United States we have the youth-oriented Scion division, while Lexus handles its upscale offerings, and overseas there's Daihatsu.
The budget brand offers a range of small cars under its own name; most are hatchbacks, but there's also the Copen roadster and even a rebadged Camry called the Altis. You may have come across some of their offerings while traveling overseas, particularly in Europe, but that last part is about to come to an end, according to reports.
Word from across the pond is that Toyota plans to withdraw Daihatsu from the European market altogether. The move would reportedly take effect in 2013, and if it comes to pass, would follow similar withdrawals from the North American (1992) and Australian (2006) markets. Thanks for the tip, William!

Vote to unionize Toyota Canada plant faces delay

Volkswagen isn't the only automaker with high-profile unionization efforts afoot at one of its North American factories. Unifor, Canada's largest private-sector union, is attempting to organize Toyota's factories in Ontario, reports Reuters. A vote was originally set for next week, but Unifor has apparently found more workers eligible to vote, delaying the proceedings. It hasn't rescheduled the ballot yet, but claims there are 7,500 employees with the right to vote, with over 3,000 having already signed union cards.
Toyota is pushing against organizing, saying that workers already have a payment and benefits near the top of the industry, and noting that it has never laid off a permanent employee in Canada. Unifor has reportedly countered by saying that about a quarter of the workforce is operating under a temporary contract, which receives lower benefits.
The automaker has three factories in Ontario - two in Cambridge and one in Woodstock. To form a union, a majority of eligible employees must vote to join Unifor. If successful, they would be the first wholly owned Toyota plants in North America to be organized. Previous attempts to unionize the Japanese automaker's Canadian factories in 2001 and 2008 failed due to lack of support.
