2007 Toyota Camry Le Sedan 4-door 2.4l No Reserve on 2040-cars
Chicago, Illinois, United States
DREAM CAMRY FOR SOMEONE - If you're looking for a top quality absurdly low mileage used Camry, this is the best one on Craigslist, and it will go fast. This is a 2007 4-Door Camry LE, in Super White, with the Ash color interior and only 21,000 miles (less than 3K miles a year) that is being sold by a private party. VIN# 4T1BE46K67U510622 As an LE model, it's pretty much the basic model, with the only option added back in 2007 being the power Moonroof. This model has the 2.4Liter 158 horsepower 4 cylinder engine -- gets about 23mpg in the city, and 33mpg on the highway. The car has 16' steel wheels, power steering, 4 wheel-disc brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, AM/FM/CD/MP3 player with 6 speakers and Aux jack -- everything in this car works perfectly. This car has only had two legal owners, both family members, and currently has clear Wisconsin title, but is available for sale in nearby chicago. The car was no-kidding really owned by a little old lady, my sister, who then passed away and had not driven it much while alive due to mobility issues. It was then willed a few months ago upon her death to my son, a police officer who works in another state, who now desires to sell it, as he already has a car and does not need it. The car has been vacuumed, cleaned and polished. Known issues: The rear bumper had a couple scratches that were touched up. The current car owner is not a smoker, but the original owner (my sister) was. The upholstery, carpeting and headliner have been washed, scrubbed and Febreezed, but there is still a faint odor of smoke on a warm day. There is a small cigarette burn in one of the seats up front, and a small one in back from a flying ash -- you will never ever notice them 99% of the time while using the car. The tires are original and matching, and probably will need to be replaced within the next 10,000 miles. If none of this brings your world crashing down, then this is the car for you. If you keep up with scheduled maintenance, Camrys are indestructible 200,000 mile cars, and at 21K, the engine on this one isn't even broken in yet. This is a car that will last you for 10 more years. Perfect for students, commuters, or anyone who is looking for a rock solid low-mileage Toyota

Report: Daihatsu leaving European market
Sun, 16 Jan 2011More than any other, two carmaking giants sit at the top of the industry: Toyota and General Motors. But while GM sells under a (shrinking but still) expansive range of brands, the Toyota Motor Corporation sells most of its vehicles under its own name. That doesn't mean that Toyota, however, doesn't have its own portfolio of subsidiaries. Here in the United States we have the youth-oriented Scion division, while Lexus handles its upscale offerings, and overseas there's Daihatsu.
The budget brand offers a range of small cars under its own name; most are hatchbacks, but there's also the Copen roadster and even a rebadged Camry called the Altis. You may have come across some of their offerings while traveling overseas, particularly in Europe, but that last part is about to come to an end, according to reports.
Word from across the pond is that Toyota plans to withdraw Daihatsu from the European market altogether. The move would reportedly take effect in 2013, and if it comes to pass, would follow similar withdrawals from the North American (1992) and Australian (2006) markets. Thanks for the tip, William!
Japanese automakers ramping production for renewed American sales
Wed, 21 Nov 2012The 2011 earthquake and tsunami that struck Japan took quite the toll on the automotive industry in that nation. Not content to lean on that tragedy as excuse for slagging sales, the Japanese automakers are planning on a major production expansion in North America. The aim is to reclaim the market share lost from the Tsunami-based dip, and overcome a dollar/yen exchange rate that makes exporting to America unprofitable.
Following the Tsunami, Japanese automakers ramped up production in their North American facilities to compensate, but according to Automotive News, Nissan, Honda and others have all reported plans for still-further increased production in the year ahead. As part of this ramp-up, Mazda will open a facility in Salamnca, Mexico before March of 2014. Part of that increase in output is 50,000 units of a Toyota-badged compact car, which Mazda will produce.
Other Mexican production facilities opening include a Honda plant, which will open in Spring 2014 in Celaya, and a Nissan plant, set to open later this year in Aguascalientes. Nissan also said that it will need another plant in North America within the next five years. According to Nissan Boss Carlos Ghosn, the company aims to raise its stake in the US market from 8 percent to 10, and adding production will help achieve that goal. Even Mitsubishi is aiming to boost production at its Normal, Illinois plant. Production of the Outlander Sport is currently at 50,000, which Mitsubishi wants to raise to 70,000.
Toyota's Lentz says fuel cells are the future, not EVs
Sun, 25 May 2014Toyota is not bullish on EVs. That comes from the company's North American CEO, Jim Lentz, who said the company will focus not on electrification, but on continued hybridization with a long-term focus on hydrogen fuel cells.
Lentz questioned the long-range ability of EVs, saying that Toyota feels "there are better alternatives, such as hybrids and plug-in hybrids, and tomorrow with fuel cells." Lentz spoke about Toyota's focus on hydrogen following Forbes Brainstorm Green conference and barely a week after a battery deal between Tesla and Toyota ended, according to Automotive News.
That deal provided for 2,500 battery packs for the Rav4 EV. While valuable to Toyota, the deal "was never about open-ended volume," Lentz said. "It was time to either continue or stop. My personal feeling was that I would rather invest my dollars in fuel cell development than in another 2,500 EVs."
