Hi-Performance 1986 Suzuki Samurai 4x4 Rat Rod
CONDITION
This was a perfectly fine working Suzuki Samurai when I got it in 2012, but me being the tinkerer I am I had to make it bad ass. It had around 200,000 miles on it before I began completely overhauling it. I chose to focus on performance and roll with some of the rugged patina that had developed with black diamond plate for its appearance. It has all been sanded and clear coated in areas that needed it. As to the performance, this thing is fast. Not only is it capable of doing burnouts, it puts any Wrangler to shame on the trail. Mechanically everything is sound. There are no oil leaks. It starts right up every time. Pretty much all engine mechanical is new. Have gotten it up to 95 on the high way with 30's so it can be a highway driver. Interior has been fully re-done. Needless to say this is an immaculate piece of rugged 80's hardware that has been modernized to take you anywhere you want to go, is the most fun automobile you will ever drive, and will make people jealous.

Suzuki reopens India plant post-riot with police outnumbering workers
Fri, 24 Aug 2012Suzuki's plant in Manesar, India builds cars for Australia, specifically its Alto small car. Or at least they were building cars before violent worker riots forced the factory to close. The plant has been idled for five weeks as a result of worker violence that led to the death of one manager and 95 injuries. The riot was spurred over a labor dispute - specifically, a gulf in salaries between temporary workers and their salaried counterparts who earn triple the contract workers' wages.
According to reports, on Tuesday, the factory re-opened with more than 1,200 police officers stationed around the plant. The staff of actual workers at the plant numbers just 75 currently, meaning the police force greatly outnumbers Suzuki employees.
The number of employees will eventually grow to 300, and the officers will run in shifts of 100 at a time, but the initial disparity of workers to police is meant as a show of force to the more than 500 permanent and 500 temporary workers who were found to be involved in a July 18 riot.
Toyota, Honda, Nissan and more collaborating to increase fuel efficiency
Sun, 25 May 2014Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Subaru, Mitsubishi, Suzuki and Daihatsu have announced an alliance that will see a push to improve fuel economy from both gas-powered and diesel-powered engines by as much as 30 percent before the end of the decade.
The newly assembled Research Association of Automotive Internal Combustion Engines put the roughly $20-million project together, with the Japanese government committing to half the cost while the eight manufacturers will chip in the rest.
According to Automotive News, the automakers will team up and share basic research on internal-combustion engines in a bid to cut costs. Eventually, the results of the research will find its way into a production vehicle, although it's unclear just when we'll see the fruits of this partnership on the road.
Remembering Suzuki of America... in commercials
Wed, 07 Nov 2012American Suzuki Motors is leaving us, but as long as the lights are on at YouTube, its commercials will stay behind to remind of the times we shared. We dug up nine commercials - sort of like a Time Life infomercial for an entire brand - and among the starring actors are the X-90 improving the 90s with the help of a Pez dispenser, the Peter Pan-ish Sidekick, Optimus Prime getting his pipes all smoked up over the 1987 Samurai and an XL7 that would have sold in the millions if its commercial were even half true.
We've also included a remarkably oddball eight-minute featurette/commercial about a giant Suzuki Swift. You'll find the retrospective in the videos below. Enjoy.
