I'm the original owner of this well maintained, 1999 Saturn Homecoming Edition SL2.  Clear Title in hand!

In 1999, the Homecoming Edition was produced in a special "Mint Color" with tan leather interior, special off-white gauge faceplates, and black Saturn badges to commemorate the second "Homecoming" visit to the Spring Hill, Tennessee manufacturing facility.

There were only 4,000 of the 1999 Homecoming Edition produced.

This vehicle was rated 24  MPG City - 34 MPG Highway and it still gets a consistent 30 MPG on average.  It has an automatic transmission and a DOHC 1.9L engine.

It still runs great with over 242K miles, but I've bought a new car, and the time has come to let it go.  This is a safe, reliable, and quiet car that still has lots of life left.  This would be a great "new driver" or students car, and it's even up for a long distance trip.

Check out the pictures, and you'll see that I recently had the headliner professionally replaced and the sun visors reupholstered.  A tune up was done this summer, with new spark plugs and wires, and an ERG Valve.  Overall the car is clean looking, but the clearcoat is peeling in a number of spots, mostly on the spoiler.  There a several flaws in the paint and a couple of small rust spots on the hood due to its age.  See the pictures for yourself.

The stock radio has been replaced with a Pioneer Radio/CD player, and it works fine.  Brand new Silver Star Ultra headlights just installed this week!

I'm also throwing in 2 spare matching FireStone/Primewell tires.  Like all older Saturns it uses an extra quart of oil between changes at about 1500 miles.  The battery, brakes, and muffler have all been replaced in the last three years.

If you have any questions just ask.  Local pickup in Springfield, IL.  Airport pickup available.

VIDEO: Saturn's demise? We blame Jim Gaffigan*

When the deal to sell Saturn to Penske Automotive fell through, there were likely a lot of surprised people at General Motors' Detroit, MI headquarters. Penske released a statement saying that the reason the deal fell through after months of good faith negotiations was that a suitable post-GM supply of vehicles could not be found. However, after reacquainting ourselves with over eight minutes of outtakes from Jim Gaffigan's old Saturn commercial, we're thinking the comedic pitchman is to blame.

NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.

Honda wins Commercial of the Decade, but not for the ad you think [w/VIDEO]

Honda's Commercial of the Decade: "Grrr" - Click above to watch video
The mad men at Adweek recently voted for the Commercial of the Decade (Super Bowl commercials not included) and Honda took top honors over memorable ads from the last ten years by companies like Nike, Budweiser and Sony. That's not a big surprise considering Honda often puts a huge amount of effort into its on-air spots. However, the Japanese automaker didn't win for the commercial you might have expected: "Cog." Though Honda's famous commercial that breaks down a European Accord Tourer into a Rube Goldberg-esque machine was also a finalist, it was beaten by another Honda commercial called "Grrr" that's narrated by Garrison Keillor of all people. You've probably never seen it, but you can after the jump.
Volkswagen also made the list of finalists, but the particular ad chosen out of all the comical VW ads we've seen was unexpected as well. Most surprising carmaker with a commercial in the finals: Saturn. Who knew...
