E-brake is missing lock-mechanism. Mechanically: very sound, cosmetically: very poor."

This is a wonderful car if you are humble enough to drive it.

This car is clearly ahead of its time, a time which may not yet have come...

Here is a listing of the features:

  • 35+ MPG, a fuel sipper.
  • "Golf-cart handling", as made popular by the Mini, at a fraction of the cost.
  • Dent-resistant doors.  I don't know about you, but most people seem to have forgotten how much fun and how awesome these are.
  • Plastic bumpers.  This makes putting paint on bumpers seem like a pretty stupid idea.
  • Special flat matte paint finish.  I believe the hood is faded from the sun and salt, but it IS a really hot look right now.
  • Two new tires.  Each cost about $30-40, so cheap!  (the other 2 are OK).
  • Tune up last year, new belts and plugs!  Preventative maintenance only, this reliable car has never let me down.
  • Battery is less than 2 years old.

The bad:

  • The E-brake (works) but the latch/button is missing, so it does not lock.  It has been this way for years, no reason to fix.
  • The ceiling started to droop so I ripped it out.  I really like the look of the steel roof, it's a clean look.
  • There are stains and rips and tears all over the interior of the car.
  • I kept seat covers on the seats, which are now faded (and included with the sale).  I'm sure with new seat covers it would be a like a brand new car.
  • The paint is faded and scratched in various areas.
  • The glass is good with the exception of one chip, which has been there for years and thus has not cracked or grown at all.

NHTSA could add 1M cars to GM recall

Wed, 13 Mar 2013

The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration may expand a recall campaign for faulty brake lamps. The agency is currently looking into complaints that certain 2004-2011 Chevrolet Malibu models as well as some 2007-2009 Saturn Aura sedans may have brake lights that do not illuminate when the driver presses the pedal. Alternatively, the lamps may also illuminate without input from the driver. General Motors recalled 8,000 Pontiac G6 models from the 2005 model year for the same problem, and NHTSA is currently investigating whether to add 550,000 more G6 models built between 2005 and 2009 to the list for the same issue.
In addition, investigators are currently examining 97 complaints from Malibu and Aura owners with the same trouble. If NHTSA adds those models to the recall campaign, more than one million units could be covered. GM, meanwhile, says there have been no accidents or injuries as a result of the problem.

GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:

VIDEO: Saturn's demise? We blame Jim Gaffigan*

When the deal to sell Saturn to Penske Automotive fell through, there were likely a lot of surprised people at General Motors' Detroit, MI headquarters. Penske released a statement saying that the reason the deal fell through after months of good faith negotiations was that a suitable post-GM supply of vehicles could not be found. However, after reacquainting ourselves with over eight minutes of outtakes from Jim Gaffigan's old Saturn commercial, we're thinking the comedic pitchman is to blame.
