For sale is a 1988 Saab 9000 turbo automatic transmission, sunroof, power everything, heated seats. Rose quartz with oxbloox interior leather, even the dash is oxblood to match. It even has the original phone (obviously doesn't work, but perfect to make those red-light impressions for the people next to you, like you are calling back in time, or for those 80's inspired music videos...)
About the car: Full Option. Very clean inside and out. Transmission and brake issues. When accelerating from a stop the transmission slams into gear instead of a smooth shift, but when driving it shifts smooth. Only when accelerating from a stand still does it act up. 99% rust free!!!! The engine is running really good, revs and idles like its suppose to, turbo spools like it should. The good: New battery New radiator (saab) Newer distributor All mew vacuum hoses New spark plugs New timing chain, tensioner and guide (Saab) Good tires except one, needs 1 tire. Interior in great shape, no tears or rips in leather whatsoever New headliner New fuel pump and pre pump New turbo APC valve New turbo bypass valve (bosch newer style from porsche, stronger) New oil and air filters. Cleaned transmission filter. All headlight brackets are good! All lights work. All windows work and sunroof operates as it should. The bad: Needs transmission work ( still drives). The car still drives great, when at speed. It shift flawlessly during driving, however when at a stop or accelerating from a stop, it seems to not be in gear and only after pressing on the gas a bit, for a sec, it goes into gear and takes off. I believe it might be either a pressure issue, or the infamous governors. Needs brake pump replaced ( will provide a working one with the car) The abs light is on and the brake pedal is super stiff. Ac needs recharged but compressor is good A couple trim pieces broken ( rear left door window switch, side molding is about to start coming off on one side but not bad just need 3m double sided tape, fl door light is cracked, dome light needs to be pulled out, it is pushed in and not secured in place, but still works perfectly). Paint has a few dents a minor scratch Rear hatch needs new shocks. Sometimes the brake light switch acts up. when turning the car off the brake lights will stay on. Doesn't smoke, doesn't eat oil, doesn't sputter, compression tested all good, doesn't knock, no strange noises or secondary noises in the body when driving. Overall solid and one of the cleanest first gen 9000, definitely best condition for sale that I have seen in the Midwest region. Most of the Saabs in the Midwest die from rust..This is a rare opportunity to own a Saab in this nice of a cosmetic condition. This would be a great buy for a Saab collector or enthusiast like myself. Unfortunately I am running out of room and time with all my other Saabs. I hope this car finds a good home with a Saab guy or gal, as this car can bring another 10-15 years of care free enjoyment and admiration from fellow saab-o-philes. There is no rust on this vehicle at all!!! NO RUST ON THE OUTSIDE, INSIDE, OR BOTTOM OF VEHICLE! It has been garaged its whole life, even in my possession for the past year it has been only inside, never even seen rain! Need to make room for other projects. Grainy leaked images show stillborn Castriota-designed Saab 9-3
Mon, 04 Feb 2013The Saab faithful are going to be playing the "what if" game for years to come. It's one of the burdens of being a fan of a dead brand. A fresh batch of grainy 9-3 Phoenix images have made their way online, alleged shots of a design proposal penned by none other than Jason Castriota. The five-door looks to feature an honest liftback, though SaabsUnited.com says this particular vehicle was drawn up as part of a business plan in early 2011. As such, Castriota apparently told the site the final product was to look much more athletic than what we see here. While the low-resolution images make it difficult to tell much about the design, we certainly appreciate the familiar roofline, full band taillamps and the contrasting rear spoiler reminiscent of the old Saab 99 and 900 ducktails.
Unfortunately, we know all too well why this creation never saw the light of day. Would-be savior Victor Muller couldn't quite pull Saab out of its nosedive, and the company fell into bankruptcy before the 9-3 Phoenix could get off the ground. There's talk of the Phoenix platform and Saab brand having new life in other markets as EVs and even as gas cars, but the model seen here will likely never see production - let alone North American showrooms.

Mon, 08 Sep 2014The Nordic countries are known for their beautiful fjords, blonde-haired populace and bitter cold for a good portion of the year. The hours spent indoors during the dark, cold season apparently gives a lot of time for some crazy brainstorming. Tire store chain Vianor is highlighting the Traktor Terror in a new video. If Ken Block is the master of Gymkhana, then these guys know all about Farmkhana in their custom, turbocharged tractor.
According to the YouTube description from Vianor, the tractor is a 1956 Volvo BM Terrier with an added roll cage, adjustable front suspension and extended frame. The engine is thoroughly Swedish, and it's based on a Volvo 940 Turbo with a Volvo 240 head and Volvo 740 intercooler. However, it uses a Saab turbo Prospark ignition and fuel system. All told, the setup is claimed to make 225 horsepower and is capable of a top speed of 60 miles per hour.
That's not crazy power, but this tractor can certainly put it down. The farm machine has no problem smoking those big rear wheels and drifts easily.... although, it may be a tiny little bit unstable (hence the roll cage). If nothing else, this looks like the world's most fun way to be a farmer, that's for sure.
Saab to hire 200 engineers, might build gas cars with Mahindra
Thu, 14 Jun 2012The brand formerly known as Saab is still intent on teaching The Little Engine That Could a few ticks about persistence. We say "formerly known" because it turns out that National Electric Vehicle Swedent (NEVS), the Sino-Japanese investment consortium that just bought the majority of Saab's assets, minus Saab Automobile Parts AB, may not actually own the rights to the Saab brand name. According to a report in Di.se via Saabs United, NEVS will need to negotiate with Scania and the Swedish aerospace and defense group, Saab AB, for the right to name its forthcoming electric car the Saab 9-3.
NEVS is hiring 200 engineers now to work on its electric car program, and reports are that it will hire more as it gets closer to the 2014 launch. It will be based on the current (read: ancient) 9-3, and we hope NEVS is succeeds in getting the naming rights, because the NEVS 9-3 just doesn't have the same ring. NEVS will likely target China as the model's main market.
However, it's rumors of their second negotiating ploy that we're really rooting for: to work with Mahinda & Mahindra, the Indian company once in the running for Saab's assets, develop a petrol-powered 9-3 on the next-generation Phoenix platform, based on Jason Castriota's design.
