Unique, original looking 8v 900 Turbo for sale. SPG's are always for sale, but this one is intentionally stock. This car has been repainted, re-upholstered, and has new brakes and exhaust. It looks amazing and runs and drives good too.
    Problems I'm aware of include:
  • It has AC but does not currently work, but could be easily fixed.
  • The manual sunroof is stuck shut. It too could be fixed but will probably require removing the headliner, so I have not done it since the headliner is so nice and the roof doesn't leak.
  • There is a small rust spot starting to bubble up on the sunroof, but is the only rust spot on the car that I am aware of.
  • There are a couple electrical gremlins that are hard to explain here, but it is an '83 Saab after-all.  I'll be happy to go over this with the buyer, but it's nothing that will keep you from enjoying this car.
  • I have the badges for the rear hatch, but haven't installed them yet and will be included in the sale.  I also have a set of side rub strips but did not re-install since they were old and did not feel they'd look good with the new paint.  I can include these if desired.
The good stuff:
  • As mentioned, the paint is new in the last couple years.  I didn't have the paintwork done, but it looks pretty nice.  There were some rust spots on the hood that I fixed last summer and had the hood professionally resprayed to match the car and it looks great.
  • Interior was re-done by previous owner and as you'll see in the photos really sets this car off.  Also includes vintage Coco Mats.
  • Dash does have a cap on it to fix the common Saab issue of cracked dashes.
  • The stereo speakers all work but are really cheap units, so I have acquired new speakers.  They aren't quite installed yet, but will be included in the sale.  Has an aftermarket but period correct Pioneer tape deck.
  • All brake parts were replaced or serviced within the last year and are all tip-top.
  • New exhaust installed within the last year.
  • New Interstate battery
  • Tires are in good shape
  • New valve cover gasket just installed as it was leaking a bit before.
  • I have a set of Ronal minilites in silver that I could include with sale
  • Car was at this past year's national Saab convention in Iowa City.

NEVS to build new Saab models in China's Qingdao

Thu, 10 Jan 2013

National Electric Vehicle Sweden has officially signed a deal with Qingdao Qingbo Investment Company that will see the NEVS build EVs in Qingdao, China. The move is the first step on the road toward eventually selling vehicles in China. Reuters reports that the Chinese company has agreed to invest $307.33 million, after which point Qingdao Qingbo will receive 22 percent of the NEVS shares. Currently, there's no word on exactly when the funds and shares will change hands, but the Swedish automaker has previously said it fully intends to launch its first EV by early 2014.
NEVS has also made waves about potentially building a version of the old Saab 9-3 with a traditional internal combustion driveline. Currently, the manufacturer says it plans to ship the vehicles it builds in Sweden to the Qingdao port and distribute them to the rest of China from there. Later down the line, a manufacturing facility in Qingdao will supply the country with Chinese-built Saab models.

Saab US bankruptcy plan gets legal green-light

Thu, 18 Jul 2013

It feels utterly bizarre that we're still talking about Saab, but Reuters is reporting that the bankrupt Swedish manufacturer's American arm has gotten approval from the US Bankruptcy Court to liquidate its assets and pay back creditors. As part of the plan, secured creditors like Ally Financial will receive full repayment. Unsecured creditors, consisting of those affected by abandoned leases and contracts will get anywhere from 25 to 82 percent of their money back.
There are currently $77 million in unsecured claims, according to Reuters, but that number doesn't include claims from former Saab dealers. Naturally, the entire affair is full of lawyers and legalese. A trust formed on the Saab side will be negotiating with creditors and their affiliates in an attempt to reduce claims against Saab. This sounds like the start of a long and sordid affair...

Spyker and Youngman sign deal, plan to build D8 SUV and Phoenix-based range

Mon, 27 Aug 2012

It appears Spyker is strengthen its ties and carmaking ability with Chinese carmaker Youngman. This comes in the wake of the brand's latest dealings with a $3 billion lawsuit against General Motors regarding the demise of Saab.
Youngman is reportedly investing €10,000,000 ($12.5M USD) for a 29.9-percent stake in the company. The shares are being sold for €0.05 (6.3 cents) each, representing a fully diluted share. Youngman has said it will not take on more than the 29.9-percent stake.
Additionally, Youngman will invest €25,000,000 ($31M) for the development of an all-new Spyker vehicle, called the D8 P2P, named for the Peking-to-Paris rally. The vehicle had been shown as a concept by Spyker previously, but things had been quiet since then. It appears Spyker will now build the uniquely styled D8 Concept shown above. The vehicle is to launch at the end of 2014 and carry a price of $250,000 per vehicle.
