This is a rare 2001 Saab 9-3 VIGGEN w/ 5-speed manual transmission. This is NOT the mass produced 9-3 that's so common. This is the super car that was only manufactured for 4 years by Saab. If you are not familiar with this car, please do some research about what is being offered here.

This car was designed and built for an exclusive high end market of 4 cylinder cars. Only 1251 were manufactured in 2001, and only 129 were imported to the USA that year. This car was over $40,000 new and a special training session was required for new buyers.

Nothing was spared in the design and build of this sports car. Every part of this car was specifically designed for high speed performance. Here are some of the performance upgrades outlined by Saab:

Saab 9-3 Viggen
A high-powered version of the Saab 9-3 is the "Viggen" (English: Thunderbolt). It is named after the Saab 37 Viggen aircraft. Production ended in 2002.

It comes with a turbocharged 2.3 L engine, (B235R) giving 230 bhp (172 kW; 233 PS) on 1.4 bar (20 psi) of boost from its Mitsubishi TD04-HL15-5 turbocharger and 252 lb/ft torque. Acceleration from 0-60 mph can be reached in 6 seconds, coming in 1st in its class at 0-100 mph and 0-120 mph, with the top speed electronically limited to 160 mph.To provide and handle the high power and performance, the following elements were factory upgraded:

Higher capacity intercooler
Higher performance tuned ECU
Larger flow-through exhaust system
Heavy duty clutch and pressure plate
Stiffened and lowered springs
Firmer dampers
Stronger CV joints and driveshafts

As you can tell, this car is a complete performance package from the factory and does not require any additional add-ons, as is so typical with most upgraded 4 cylinder cars.

Not only did Saab produce a great performance sports car, they also designed an amazing interior for safety, comfort and accessibility. This car is LOADED with every convenience and comfort appreciated by a driver and passengers. The drivers seat and controls were literally designed after the cockpit of a jet fighter. This car provides a wonderful driver experience with all controls fashioned for beauty as well as maximum driver function. This car was also built with ultimate safety in mind. It still ranks highest for safety even among today's standards with its side airbags. Here are some of its key features:

Power locks and windows
Leather interior
Air conditioning - digitally programmable climate control
Security Alarm
Remote door locks
Driver and passenger airbags
Side airbags
Programmable power seats
Heated Seats
Power Sun Roof
On board computerized digital display including date, time, temp, distance until empty, average fuel     mileage, average speed, and travel trip
Traction Control System
Headlight wipers
All VIGGEN trim and markings
And much more!

This car was originally bought and maintained by the owner of a local Swedish motors dealer. It was meticulously maintained and garage kept. This car runs and handles like new, it is still like driving a $40,000 sports car. Immediate ignition, responsive acceleration, amazing handling. She sounds amazing and the huge turbo is music to the ears as she accelerates with a very distinct turbo blow off through the gears. Its almost a shame that this car came with a stereo and CD player.

Everything on this car works great. The only aging items worth mentioning are the wear on the front seats, a small crack in the front spoiler and the gasket around the antenna (all pictured). It is inspected until 11/14. It was recently serviced at the local Swedish Motors Dealer including a full synthetic oil change. Also included are an entire set of 17" rims and low profile tires in great condition. Extra set of wheels and tires come with custom carriers. Clean carfax report done last year. Title in hand.

You can own one of the fastest luxury sports cars in its class for a fraction of the price. Please feel free to contact me with any additional questions. Thank you.

Nicolas Cage flogs Saab-based Senova from Beijing Auto [w/video]

Mon, 13 May 2013

BAIC has officially pulled the covers off of its new Senova D Series sedan for China. The four-door is based on the old Saab 9-5 and boasts a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Local buyers can get their hands on the machine for around $22,745 at current conversion rates. Other engine options include a turbocharged 1.8-liter four cylinder as well as turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder, and a wide range of safety equipment comes standard on every trim except the very base model. Those goodies include a tire pressure monitoring system, active head restraints, blind spot detection, driver fatigue detection and parking sensors.
The Senova nameplate serves every model based on former Saab architectures, including the Epsilon, GM2900 and GM2400 platforms as well as engine and transmission tech. In order to promote its new products, BAIC has hired Hollywood staple Nicolas Cage to serve as the company's brand ambassador. Cage stars in the Senova-heavy Town of Car Legends action-packed video short (directed by Olivier Megaton of Transporter 3 and Taken 2 fame) which you can view by scrolling below.

Spyker's $3B lawsuit against GM for blocking Saab sale thrown out

Tue, 11 Jun 2013

US District Judge Gershwin Drain has dismissed a $3-billion lawsuit Spyker filed against General Motors. In the suit, Spyker accused GM of attempting to bankrupt Saab after the US automaker had already sold the company to Spyker. GM in effect blocked the sale of Saab to China's Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile Company by prohibiting the transfer of some of its intellectual property. But the court found that GM had a "contractual right" to approve or disapprove any change of ownership. Furthermore, Reuters reports Judge Drain said the contract between GM and Spyker "is clear, unambiguous and absolute" on the matter.
GM, meanwhile, says it is pleased with the ruling. Spyker CEO Victor Muller has not said whether or not his company will appeal the ruling. The Dutch automaker is expected to make a final decision once the court issues its written order on the case.
You can read the official Spyker press release about the court ruling below for more information.

Petrolicious keeps our love of the Saab Sonett aflame

Wed, 19 Mar 2014

German auto designs lean toward function and purpose. Italian designers deliver passion and beauty. The Brits, majesty. American cars, brashness and authority. If you want a funky design, though, you go to Sweden. The land of cheap, do-it-yourself furniture and delicious meatballs knows a thing or six about style and design, and while that character is only now reemerging thanks to a certain string of Volvo concepts, it use to be that Saab was the authority on penning some of the industry's more unique designs.
Take the beautiful Sonett for example - a small coupe whose appearance is a funky mishmash of a Porsche 911 and a Bugeyed Sprite with just a hint of a Citroën DS (it's that convex rear window). It's a positively striking car, made more unique by its two-stroke, three-cylinder powertrain and four-on-the-tree manual transmission. With just 70 horsepower hauling about 1,500 pounds of Swedish style, the Sonett strikes us as an ideal alternative to some of the English sports cars of its day, particularly for those that are looking for something beyond your average MG or Triumph.
For Glenn Roberts, the Sonett was a part of his childhood. His family owned example was originally a special-order item by his parents in 1967. He bought the car from them 13 years later and has never looked back, completing a restoration in 2004. With a story like that, it's not surprising that Roberts and his silver Sonett are the most recent pairing to get some attention from Petrolicious.
