Rolls-royce Flying Spur #14 Of 50 For U.s. Market on 2040-cars
Costa Mesa, California, United States
Rare opportunity to acquire a limited edition Rolls-Royce Flying Spur. Introduced at the Geneva Motor Show in 1994, this was the first Rolls-Royce to be fitted with a light pressure turbo which increased it from 230 bhp to approximately 360 bhp, and gave it a staggering 0-60 mph time of 6.9 seconds. There were just 50 of these built for the U.S. market, and all for the 1995 model year. Finished in Mason's black with black hide and St. James' red piping. Black carpets are also trimmed in St. James' red hide.
Delivered new in Newport Beach, CA to the owner of a well-known supermarket chain, the motor car covered approximately 68,000 miles during his 6 year ownership. The story has it that he was chauffeured between store locations throughout Southern California. The last owner covered a further 7,000 miles during his thirteen years of ownership. The most recent service records show that: At 71,000 miles: Authorized dealership performed routine service: - lube, oil, and filter - rear brake pads replaced - rear accumulator valve replaced - compliance mount replaced. At 73,000 miles: Authorized dealership performed routine service: - lube, oil, and filter - all accumulator return hoses replaced - hydraulic system bled. Cosmetically, there is some shrinkage on the rear parcel shelf as you can see in the photograph. This can be re-covered with matching hide for approximately $280. As the local trimmer is on vacation, I have not been able to get this done prior to listing the car for sale. The motor car is offered with all factory books, spare key, jacks, full size spare wheel, etc. (nothing missing). The car is sold As-Is with no warranty expressed or implied. A copy of the California Emissions PASS certificate is included from April 29, 2014. Please call or email for more photos. I can be reached at (949) 629 - 8177 or eveandroger@sbcglobal.net with any questions. Roger |

Rolls-Royce Phantom Metropolitan Collection wafts into the annals of exclusivity
Fri, 03 Oct 2014Limited-edition, hand-built cars are kind of a bizarre thing. On the one hand, people pay umpteen amounts of money for bespoke cars, with the manufacturer adding that iconic descriptor to all its press materials, but then the company goes and produces 20 of the exact same car and sells them as a "special edition." It seems kind of contradictory.
Rolls-Royce must not see it that way, though, as it has just unveiled one of 20 Metropolitan Collection Phantom sedans at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. As the latest member of the brand's Bespoke Collection, the Metropolitan joins the Phantom Drophead Coupe Waterspeed Collection, the Pinnacle Travel and the Ghawwass Edition.
According to Rolls-Royce, the Metropolitan Collection pays "homage to the world's great metropolises" by way of the company's well known craftsmen. The veneers, particularly on the second row picnic table, get extensive attention, with just the table using 500 individual pieces of wood.
Ward's releases 10 Best Interiors list for 2014
Thu, 10 Apr 2014While we're still a ways off from the automotive awards season proper, where things like North American Car and Truck of the Year, Motor Trend's Car of the Year and Car and Driver's Ten Best are named, that doesn't mean there aren't trophies being handed out to deserving automakers. Ward's 10 Best Interiors being one of them.
As the name might imply, the magazine focuses on the very best interior treatments in the US market. Whereas some awards purposely exclude extreme, high-dollar offerings, Ward's considers them - the only requirement is that a vehicle has a "new or significantly redesigned interior."
Ward's offered up the list of winners in simple, alphabetical order, and it only seems fair to do the same:
Rolls-Royce planning plug-in hybrid
Mon, 10 Mar 2014Rolls-Royce is not the first marque you'd think of when it comes to environmentally friendly transportation. Its cars are big - often the size of SUVs - and pack ginormous twelve-cylinder engines displacing over six and a half liters. Those upright Parthenon grilles can't be very aerodynamic, either. But the way the wind is blowing these days, Goodwood will have to get with the program sooner or later.
It developed an electric version of the Phantom a couple of years ago called the 102EX and showed it to customers around the world. But people weren't interested, so Rolls-Royce killed the program. Not to be deterred, however, Rolls is now said to be working on a plug-in hybrid that would countermand some of the shortcomings - like range and recharging times - that killed the 102EX.
The technology would apparently be borrowed from parent company BMW which is developing it for the X5 eDrive and allow Rolls-Royce to reduce its carbon footprint and offer a more environmentally friendly mode of transportation to those who don't want to skimp on the luxury and prestige.
