Up for auction is my 1979 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II. This car is a respectable looking, good running and driving car that you can enjoy as it is and restore it a liitle at a time so you don't have to break the bank all at once. As you can see from the photos the interior is in need of TLC. The leather seats are dry and cracked, the carpet is worn, and the wood needs to be refinished. It is mechanically sound with a strong, smooth running 6.75L V8 and a transmission that shifts perfectly. The brakes are a bit low, but stop the car adequately. There is some bubbling underneath the everflex top and the passenger side front floorboard is rusted. The older repaint shows well and still holds a good shine. The trunk locking mechanism is broken but the trunk can still be opened and closed easily. I am selling the car as True Mileage Unknown because the odometer only works sporatically, however the speedometer works all of the time. With all the negatives being said, the big positve thing about this car is that you can enjoy a vintage Rolls Royce for the price of a used Hyundai. It will look great in your driveway and everyone you sit next to at a stoplight will think you're important!. The car is being sold with NO RESERVE which means the last bidder will own the car! I have described all of the defects that I know of and please bear in mind that you are buying a 34 year old car so don't expect it to be perfect. Please be advised this is an as-is private sale with no gaurantees of any kind. If you are the winning bidder you will need to send a certified check or money order in the amount of $500 within 48 hours of the auction's close with the remainder due in certified funds within 7 days of the end of the auction. You are welcome and encourged if possible to insepct the car in person during the auction. I regret having to sell this car, it's been a lot of fun, but I've lost my winter storage and it won't be long before the snow flies in Central New York. Happy bidding!

Rolls-Royce bringing art deco-inspired cars to Paris, celebrates with posters

Thu, 20 Sep 2012

Rolls-Royce announced that it will be bringing some "art-deco inspired" cars to the 2012 Paris Motor Show, and while we really have no clue what that means just yet, we're sure the cars are going to be very expensive.
The images show what appears to be a stylized Rolls-Royce Phantom or Ghost in an artistic rendering that would look at home in South Beach. Like the cars, Rolls-Royce is going all out with the launch of these special cars with an invitation-only introduction including a champagne reception.
We only have to wait until next week to see what features and styling changes Rolls-Royce has in store for these new bespoke models, but for now, enjoy this trio of art deco goodness and check out the press release below.

Rolls-Royce developing new convertible

Wed, 06 Aug 2014

Rolls-Royce is not a company that makes a lot of different vehicles, but of the ones it does, it tends to offer several versions. That's how we end up with sedan, long-wheelbase, coupe and (in the former's case) convertible versions of the Phantom and Ghost. And now Goodwood has confirmed development of another model.
Although details in the press release below are few and far between, it does promise to "deliver effortless, open-top touring... with an engaging and exhilarating driving experience." CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös added: "We are currently developing an exciting and thoroughly contemporary interpretation of a pinnacle drophead tourer which will introduce even more discerning men and women to Rolls-Royce ownership."
What that tells us is that the new model - set to reach showrooms "by mid-2016" - will be a convertible that's exciting to drive and more youthful than the Phantom Drophead Coupe. In other words, and in all likelihood, we're looking at the convertible version of the Ghost-based Wraith fastback (like the one we recently spotted undergoing testing, pictured above). Expect it, then, to carry the same 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12, but with the added rush of wind in your hair.

Aeroboat packs 1,100 seahorses of Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 power

Wed, 21 May 2014

We don't typically cover boats here - this is, after all, Autoblog and not Aquablog - but every so often something comes along that makes us want to dip our toes in the water, whether it's a Jaguar-designed speedboat, a Gulf-liveried megayacht or a Lamborghini-powered Riva Aquarama. This is another one of those occasions.
Set to be unveiled at the Salute to Style show in July at The Hurlingham Club in London, the Aeroboat is a motor yacht that seems to blend retro and furutistic lines in equal measure that would make Jules Verne proud without going Steampunk. Inspired by the Spitfire fighter plane, the Aeroboat packs aircraft-inspired switchgear and shock-mounted seats into a long, sleek form. But what really has our interests piqued is what lies beneath the stylish decks.
Each of the dozen Aeroboats to be built will pack a reconditioned, marinized, fuel-injected Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine - the same 27-liter powerplant that propelled the Spitfire. With 1,100 horsepower on tap, it's expected to propel the Aeroboat up to a top speed between 75 and 95 knots, or 86-109 miles per hour by landlubber standards, which is pretty damn fast on the open water.
