1971 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow "project/parts Car" No Reseve!! on 2040-cars

Year:1971 Mileage:104000
Location:

Hartford, Connecticut, United States

Hartford, Connecticut, United States

Responsible for achieving the largest production volume of any Rolls-Royce, the Silver Shadow was introduced in October of 1965 at the Paris Auto Show. The most successful model ever produced by Rolls-Royce, the Silver Shadow had a remarkable production rate of 16,717 units sold during its 12-year run. For such an expensive model, this was quite an achievement. This vehicle was to be the future of Rolls Royce Motors, a product of more than ten years of development, filling a gap between the Silver Cloud buyer and the new generation of Rolls owners. A luxurious vehicle produced in Great Britain, the Silver Shadow was the first Rolls-Royce to use a monocque chassis.

The Silver Shadow had a more modern appearance in comparison to its predecessor, the Silver Cloud. The styling was a product of Crewe's in-house styling department, led by Jon P. Blatchley. Unitary construction, the absence of a separate frame resulted in more room for passengers, and easier access for luggage towing. It also featured much more practical updates that included disc brakes rather than drum brakes, and independent rear suspension with automotac level control instead of the previous live axle design of previous vehicles.

During its first year of production, the Silver Shadow came at a base price of $19,700 and weighed 4,700 pounds. Two door saloons were available from 1966 on, and a convertible was offered the following year.

The Silver Shadow has a 189 hp 6.75 L V8 motor. These power plants were merged to a General Motors-sourced Turbo Hydramatic 400 transmission.

The Silver Shadow also featured an impressive high-pressure hydraulic system that was licensed from Citroen and showcased dual-circuit braking and hydraulic self-leveling suspension. In the beginning both the front and rear of the vehicle were controlled by the leveling system. This was updated to only rear leveling as most of the work was done from this area

This Rolls Royce Silver Shadow is a 4 Door saloon which is white with tan leather interior with bucket seats. The engine runs well. It needs brakes and paint work (body has no dents or rust). The front passenger door is stuck closed. AC is not working. The interior is in excellent condition. It is a "project/parts car".

This is a limited produced left hand drive export model. Only 2280 Silver Shadows were built in 1971 of which only an estimated 25% (around 570) for the USA market.

Can be seen at 511 Franklin Avenue, Hartford, CT 06114.

Third Rolls-Royce Wraith teaser looks inward

Wed, 20 Feb 2013

After shadowy images of the 2014 Rolls-Royce Wraith in profile and of the car's rump, the slow striptease of this hyper-luxury coupe finally starts to show us what the inside of the car will look like. We'll get our up-close look at the 2014 Wraith at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5th, but to tide us over until then, Rolls-Royce has provided a pair of images showing just some of the details that will be present inside.
Promising the interior of an "ultra-luxury yacht," the Wraith will get plenty of soft leather and real wood paneling, and as we suspected, this car will share a lot of interior bits with its sedan counterpart, the Rolls-Royce Ghost. We can somewhat see this from the second image provided showing the placement of the clock and the air vents that look almost identical to what can be seen currently on the Ghost. On the Wraith, though, the clock's hands feature "Blood Orange" tips, which not only contrast the high-gloss, piano black finish of this instrument panel but also is designed to pay homage to the aviation side of Rolls-Royce.

Grey Poupon's Pardon Me Lost Footage ad airs during Oscars

Mon, 25 Feb 2013

Those of you that took our tip and tuned in for last night's Academy Awards may have caught the latest iteration of the famous Grey Poupon commercials, featuring a pair of Rolls-Royce sedans and their condiment-loving stewards. The update to the 1981 commercial was only shown in part on television, however, as the mustard company directed viewers to its website to see the entirety of the Lost Footage spot. Of course if you didn't bother then, you can just scroll down to see the full-length two-minute commercial here.
As you're viewing, note that the Grey Poupon marketers did not, it would appear, get official sanction from Rolls-Royce this time around. While the Rollers in the commercial have all sorts of James Bond-like accouterments, they don't appear to have the official Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornaments, for example, and they have restyled lights and grilles. Check out the new spot below, and see if it stacks up to the iconic Pardon Me original.

Rolls-Royce looks to the heavens with diamond-encrusted Celestial Phantom

Wed, 06 Nov 2013

The Middle East is a vital market for Rolls-Royce, particularly in the Gulf emirates. So the British automaker wouldn't let the region's premier auto show go by unnoticed, and to that end has rolled into the Dubai Motor Show with an array of special editions.
Chief among them is the Celestial edition Phantom, a customized limousine that initially debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show but has returned to Dubai with the addition of 446 diamonds hand-set into the door panels, center console and cabin privacy partition. Taking the spirit of the Phantom's trademark starlight headliner even further, the Celestial edition reproduces overhead the constellations exactly as they were on the evening of January 1, 2003, when Rolls-Royce delivered the first Phantom to its owner, as verified by the South Downs Planetarium in Chichester, England.
The Bespoke division also fitted the Celestial Phantom with inky blue leather, special glassware and a custom picnic set. The wheel hubs are also engraved and the Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament uplit, demonstrating just a few of the possibilities awaiting those with the means not only to buy a new Rolls-Royce, but also commission special features from the Bespoke department.
