1969 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, last ones with metal bumper. Ivory on British Racing Green. LHD American export originally delivered to a salesman in Texas, who drove it daily for the first ten years. No rust whatsoever. Second owner for the next 20+ years was a physician on the east coast. He was often observed doing research at the RR Foundation library, as he wanted to do his own work.
The engine is original Rolls Royce 5.75 liter V-8. The car has not been in any accident. No filler was ever used on the aluminum or steel body parts. The body, chassis and top end were professionally renovated in 2002, no expense spared, at 96k miles. All factory upgrades such as differential carrier, carburetor shut off valves, in tank thermostat, brake pump and others, were performed at that time. Since then, the car has been driven few miles, for weddings and on special occasions. The interior including wood, is in excellent original condition. This is a heirloom quality for your family. Typical issues for this model had been attended to. Everything works, including gauges and air conditioning. It is outstanding in its present condition as a "driver." I would not hesitate to take it cross country for Club events. If you've never owned or driven a Rolls Royce, this is an once in a life time experience. Feel and smell the leather with the sight of beautiful wood. It is like nothing else cruising down the highway, for less investment than a vintage hot rod. You could get one in average condition for less, and expect to spend more during your stewardship. I may be open to seriously honest trades, Model A, foreign sports, American classics, especially partial to a 59 Impala, .... or vintage cycles. This car will be in the RROC Flying Lady in May, for members only. It is also advertised overseas targeted for selective and discerning potential investors. Former BMW M boss and Maserati CEO killed in freak motorcycle accident
Mon, 19 Aug 2013It's a tragic coincidence that on the same weekend the BMW M4 Coupe Concept was introduced in Monterey, one of the men most integral to BMW's M and Motorsports divisions, Karl-Heinz Kalbfell, was killed in England. Kalbfell, a vintage motorcycle enthusiast, was set to compete in the Lansdowne Classic Series at Brands Hatch and had an accident during a practice session. After going wide at Druids Corner and falling, he was hit by a competitor following close behind and died of his injuries after being transported to hospital.
Kalbfell, an engineer, began his career at BMW in 1977 in the communications department; a decade later he was chairman of BMW M GmbH, overseeing development of some of the cars responsible for the myth of M. In 1994 he was named chairman of BMW Motorsport, and his cap full of feathers includes getting the BMW V12 into the McLaren F1, getting the BMW V8 into two Morgan cars, along with developing BMW's Formula One engine and return to the sport. Not incidentally, he also assumed leadership of Project Rolls-Royce after BMW bought the British marque in 1998, which means he oversaw the Goodwood factory upfit and the creation of the Phantom.
He left Rolls-Royce for a brief stint at Fiat, heading Alfa Romeo and Maserati, then went into consulting for clients like Lotus and Paragon, who built the Artega GT. As Autocar notes, Kalbfell "had an abiding sense that customers needed to be attracted to cars by their aura and reputation, not just their engineering." He will be missed.
Third Rolls-Royce Wraith teaser looks inward
Wed, 20 Feb 2013After shadowy images of the 2014 Rolls-Royce Wraith in profile and of the car's rump, the slow striptease of this hyper-luxury coupe finally starts to show us what the inside of the car will look like. We'll get our up-close look at the 2014 Wraith at the Geneva Motor Show on March 5th, but to tide us over until then, Rolls-Royce has provided a pair of images showing just some of the details that will be present inside.
Promising the interior of an "ultra-luxury yacht," the Wraith will get plenty of soft leather and real wood paneling, and as we suspected, this car will share a lot of interior bits with its sedan counterpart, the Rolls-Royce Ghost. We can somewhat see this from the second image provided showing the placement of the clock and the air vents that look almost identical to what can be seen currently on the Ghost. On the Wraith, though, the clock's hands feature "Blood Orange" tips, which not only contrast the high-gloss, piano black finish of this instrument panel but also is designed to pay homage to the aviation side of Rolls-Royce.
Rolls-Royce celebrates Maharajas with special Phantom DHC
Fri, 14 Nov 2014A century ago, the princes and maharajas of India shared a relationship with Rolls-Royce that spanned five decades and saw the nobility on the subcontinent commissioning over 840 unique vehicles from the stoic marque. It's that golden age that Rolls-Royce celebrates with the debut of this one-of-a-kind luxury cabriolet.
Based on the Phantom Drophead Coupe, this unique Maharaja edition is distinguished by such special touches as Carrara White paint embellished with a peacock motif, emerald green coachline, a deep green top (hood in UK terminology), light creme leather interior with green accents, marquetry inlays and custom seashell embroidery.
Said to be two years in the making by the Rolls-Royce Bespoke division, this one-off Phantom DHC was unveiled not in India, but in Dubai, where a fascination with the Golden Age of the Raja is evidently alive and well.
