2008 Porsche Boxster S Convertible 2-door 3.4l, 6 Speed Manual, Beautiful Cond on 2040-cars
Chicago, Illinois, United States
This car is in terrific condition with low miles for it's age. Garage kept and stored for the winter, this is about as clean as an 2008 Boxster S is going to get. The convertible top is tight and clean. No major dents or scratches. Up to date on all maintenance. I'm the second owner of this car and I've only put about 7k miles on it in three years as it's my weekend car. Though I garage the car for the winters, I know people who drive these year-round and say they only have problems on the worst snow days. Both the original owner and I purchased this from the Porsche Exchange near Chicago and all maintenance records are there.
This car has the 18" wheels (which are better), the 6-speed manual transmission (which is what you want), and the 295 hp 3.4 liter engine (which is fast!). Tires have plenty of wear left on them and the clutch and brakes are good. Clean title, no accidents, no problems. These Boxster's are amazing cars for the price. They handle like they are on rail and stop on a dime. The steering feel is truly the best in the business and the car never looses it's composure in any driving situation. Basalt Black as the very best color for this model and between the roadster look and the burble of the high-compression flat 6, it always turns heads. I love this car every time I drive it, but am going to try something different for a while. But I fully expect to be back in a Porsche in the future. This is the roadster you're looking for the summer. By the way, buying from a private party will save you significant sales taxes over buying from a dealer! Porsche reportedly working on new turbocharged flat-four boxer engine?
Wed, 10 Apr 2013These days, we've seen just about every automaker dropping cylinders in an effort to appease tightening fuel economy and emission standards - and Porsche is no exception. Nearly three years after introducing an all-new V6 powerplant under the front hood of its Panamera sedan (launched with a range of V8 engines) comes word that Porsche is working on an all-new turbocharged flat-four boxer to replace the flat-six engines mid-mounted in its Cayman and Boxster models.
Specifics have yet to be learned, but reports say the engine is a derivative of the current 3.8-liter six (shown above) found under the rear decklid of the Carrera S, yet with two fewer cylinders. Fitted with a turbocharger, direct-injection and the automaker's VarioCam Plus, the new all-aluminum 2.5-liter flat-four will likely develop upwards of 350 horsepower and 360 pound-feet of torque. Redline should be about 7,500 rpm. Initial indications say that Porsche will only offer the new engine with its seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic, tuned to take advantage of the low-end torque, but a traditional six-speed manual gearbox has not been ruled out. Despite the loss of two cylinders, enthusiasts will likely embrace the new engine as it promises to be lighter, more fuel efficient and more powerful than the 2.7-liter and 3.4-liter sixes in the Cayman/Boxster today.
Even though Porsche has been using Volkswagen Group engines for years (e.g., Cayenne V6, Cayenne Diesel and upcoming Macan), all indications are that the new flat-four will not be shared. Instead, it will be kept in-house for the automaker's sports cars and possible future fitment in an entry-level 911.
Porsche responds to PETA after tiger cub displays at Macan dealership events
Tue, 13 May 2014Porsche has found itself in the good graces of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which is pretty odd considering it's the only brand we know of that offers leather-lined vents. The activist group is praising the sports car manufacturer's handling of reports that some of its dealerships were set to feature tigers or tiger cubs at the local launch events for the Macan. Apparently, "macan" is the Malay word for tiger, which explains the connection between a highly touted crossover and a jungle cat.
A Tampa, FL dealership already displayed some three-week-old cubs, with PETA saying tigers for display should be at least eight to 12 weeks old. Even then, the group argues that the animals can suffer due to stress, malnourishment, neglect and a lack of veterinary care. The group brings up legal concerns, as well, arguing that if one of the cubs bit a customer, the dealership could be held liable (we're no big cat experts, but it seems unlikely a three-week-old cub could do that much damage).
Porsche's PR department quickly reacted to PETA's claims, with Vice President of Marketing Andre Oosthuizen, telling the group that Porsche is concerned about the "welfare of any animal, large or small, wild or domesticated." Oosthuizen's statements were reported in an official PETA blog.
Porsche continues facelift spree with 911 Turbo
Fri, 24 Jan 2014If there's ever been automotive case for constant evolution, it is the Porsche 911. It seems like every time a new version of the rear-engined sports car debuts, Porsche is already hard at work on a facelifted version of it that changes some subtle, barely noticeable aspect.
Such is the case with this round of images of a facelifted 911 Turbo, which was seen undergoing winter testing alongside the facelifted, hardtop-version of the 911 Cabriolet we showed you yesterday. The new, 991-based 911 Turbo was just unveiled in May of 2013.
Like the Cabrio from yesterday, both the Turbo and naturally aspirated models shown here feature additional slats at the rear of the car, right behind the rear wheels. These slats on the standard model lend credence to what we learned yesterday - that even the regular 911 models could end up getting turbocharged mills.
