2004 Porsche Boxster S

Astonishingly, the Boxster was Porsche's first road vehicle to be originally designed as a roadster since the 550 Spyder of the 1950s. The first-generation Boxster was introduced in late 1996, powered by a 2.5 liter flat six-cylinder engine. In 2000, the new Boxster S variant was introduced with a larger 3.2 litre motor, and after styling enhancements and an increase in power for 2003, the 258bhp motor was capable of propelling the car from rest to 60mph in only 5.4 seconds.

The car offered here is a stunning example from 2004. In superb black on black, this three very meticulous owner California native has been dealer maintained from new.

The body is in excellent shape, never having been in any kind of accident or paint repair. The paint finish is superb throughout. The wheels are scuff-free and shod with good tires with plenty of tread remaining. The black soft top is the original and in very good condition.

The black leather interior is excellent throughout. Dash, headliner, and door panels are all in perfect condition. Carpet is excellent. Seat faces are also excellent with very minor wear to the driver's seat bolster, untouched in order to show how original and excellent this car is. The car comes with a full compliment of owner's books.

The car is mechanically as good as it looks, having been meticulously maintained. The car was serviced within the last 300 miles to ready it for sale. The engine is strong and responsive, the 6-speed manual transmission shifts without fault, with an excellent clutch. The brakes, suspension and steering all function properly, as does all electrical, including cold AC, great sounding stereo system with subwoofer, and electrically operated convertible top.

The car drives perfectly, absolutely without fault, and is beautifully presented. It truly looks like a car with a third of the indicated mileage, and as such offers an excellent opportunity to buy a fantastic example of arguably, Porsche's very best roadster.

2015 Porsche Boxster GTS [w/video]

Thu, 22 May 2014

You know the sound: the startling pop-brraaap-pop-pop shotgun fire of unspent flammables coursing through exhaust pipes that usually signals a raw, naughty powerplant beneath the hood.
But when you're nestled in the Porsche Boxster GTS' snug seats, it's not a crackling small block V8 or a high-strung Italian flat crank making the devilish racket, but rather the new king of the Boxster/Cayman lineup, a 3.4-liter flat-six that produces 330 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
Within the emotional vacuum of a spec sheet, the Boxster GTS' pumped-up grunt seems pretty mild, with a gain of only 15 hp and 7 lb-ft, respectively. But the reworked acoustical experience goes a long way towards suggesting the GTS has a trace of racing blood in its veins, and might even be missing its catalytic converters. In addition to the sonorous, centrally positioned tailpipes, the cabin also fills with lovely mechanical strains thanks to the "Sound Symposer" acoustical amplifier that's trickled down into the Boxster/Cayman lineup from the 911 for the first time. Boxster S, we hardly knew ya.

40+ cars that barely avoid the gas guzzler tax

Thu, 24 Jul 2014

The Gas Guzzler schedule, with mpg ratings and charges that haven't changed since 1991, lays out which fuel-swillers owe what to Uncle Sam.
I started thinking about the "Gas Guzzler Tax" - considerably less well known as The Energy Tax Act of 1978 - when I was driving Dodge's new Challenger SRT Hellcat last week. Unsurprisingly for a car that can burn 1.5 gallons of gas per minute at max tilt, theoretically able to empty a full tank of premium in about 13 minutes, the Hellcat will be subject to the Gas Guzzler Tax schedule when it goes on sale.

Porsche Panamera Turbo S vs Ariel Atom Supercharged in unlikely drag battle

Thu, 01 May 2014

David versus Goliath battles are always an enticing proposition, because they offer the chance to watch scrappy underdogs take on their bigger rivals. Evo has set up just such a battle with its latest drag race between the minimalist Ariel Atom 3.5 Supercharged (Ariel Atom 3 pictured below) and the plush Porsche Panamera Turbo S.
The two cars couldn't be more different. The Atom personifies Lotus founder Colin Chapman's well-known axiom: "Simplify, then add lightness." Most of the car doesn't even have a body; it's just an exposed frame with a 310 horsepower supercharged Honda four-cylinder mounted behind the driver. On the other side, there's the Panamera Turbo S. In the latest version, it packs 570 hp and 553 pound-feet from its 4.8-liter twin-turbo V8 and it features all-wheel drive. Of course, all of that comes with a significant weight penalty.
Off the line, the differences are even more apparent. The Atom doesn't have any of the Porsche's technological wizardry, so launching it challenges the driver to build the revs and let out the clutch just right. The car screams like a banshee as it goes, though. The Porsche is the exact opposite. Its launch control system lets the driver hold down the brake, get on the throttle and accelerate away in just the right way.
