1989 Porsche 944 S2 Coupe 2-door 2.7 Ltr on 2040-cars

Year:1989 Mileage:156000
Location:

Niles, Illinois, United States

Niles, Illinois, United States

Good: Body is in great shape, Porsche red paint looks great! handles great, very solid body. Runs better now then when purchased, will glide last mile before highway exit.

Florida car/ clean Florida title, but kept in Chicago garage currently.

This car has not been driven 5,000 miles in last 10 years.

944 "tank" solid frame which is ironic because i think its strength is slalom type handling and Drift car body frame, very light 2000 pound area. the engine is very clean filled with new parts, Exempt mileage, 2.7 liter non-turbo 5 speed, New clutch summer 2011, Rebuilt engine a lot in 2004ish. New Faulken tires. Sunroof. Easier to fit in then 911, if you are tall.

The 1989, 944 2.7 liter is better then earlier 80s engines in the 944. 944 models were Police Interceptor Cars, this car seems to run very well at a sustained 90 mph pace but is better at slalom type handling.

Owned the car since 2004.  Owners manual says run on 95 octane.

Bad: window washer sprayer doesn't work but wipers work well, put in 2 or more thermostats, No A/C, may hold freon.

Odometer says: 156,000 miles, from 2007-2014 no more than 700 miles in one of those years. In 2009, had head gasket repair and when I got it back from the shop the odometer wasn't working.

Interior: you wouldn't buy this car for the interior, it's okay, 2 bucket seats with Porsche covers, minor flaws, hatchback works well. Lots of new cars seemed to have copied this design, Nissan 350ish, it's 70s vette like.

Current minor repairs needed:

Crank shaft censor $150, saw one on eBay last week $49.99.

One hazard light bulb $5.00

 That's it.

You could see how long the AC holds freon? Window washer jets not working.

Good chance once the crank shaft censor fixed you would not have a problem for years.

Runs better now then when i bought it. Selling because I'm unemployed.  If it was a 70s vette have to ask $11,000 but 89 Porsche for $9,900. I have put more money into then asking.

You'll like it. Come by and drive it, if you want to buy.

Sale is final via Paypal, unless otherwise negotiated. I have to be paid to set up shipping.

Porsche finally moving ahead with flat four engine

Sun, 23 Mar 2014

When Porsche released the first Boxster in 1996 and the first Cayman in 2005, the idea was to create an entry-level model for the German automaker's sports car range. The latest iterations of both closely related models, however, have begun to encroach dangerously on the 911's territory, particularly in their newest GTS specifications. That could be about to change, however, with the introduction of a four-cylinder engine for the compact mid-engined coupe and roadster.
According to Automotive News, Porsche is finally preparing to launch a new boxer four engine in the Boxster and Cayman, following years of speculation. The engine would be based on the same architecture as the company's famous flat six, but with two fewer cylinders to cut weight. Don't expect it to cut much in the way of performance, however: Porsche chief Matthias Muller indicates that the new engine could produce as much as 395 horsepower - significantly more than even the 340hp flat six in the Cayman GTS, suggesting that the engine could even find its way into the 911 as well.
It's no more clear which markets would get the four-cylinder engine, either. But wherever it is offered and in whichever form, it wouldn't be the first time we'd see a Porsche with a four-pot engine. Not by a long shot. Both the classic 912 and 356 were powered by boxer fours, as was the 914 - not to mention the 718 pictured above and the iconic 550 Spyder. The front-engined 924, 944 and 968 packed inline-four engines, but the last of those were discontinued in the 1990s. The prospect of a four-cylinder Boxster/Cayman has been rumored for many years now, most recently joined by the possibility of a four-pot Macan as well.

Porsche Macan sales may push brand past 200K unit goal early

Tue, 13 Aug 2013

In late 2010, Volkswagen announced that it would spend the equivalent of $71 billion through 2015 to beef up its product lineup, determined to overtake Toyota in overall sales and profitability by 2018. Each of VW's many brands, in turn, would play its part contributing to a goal of 10 million sales per year. VW-owned Porsche was expected to sell 200,000 vehicles per year by 2018, but with the imminent arrival of the Macan small sport utility vehicle in 2014, the automaker is poised to meet that goal years ahead of schedule, Automotive News reports.
Porsche sold 143,096 cars in 2012, and IHS Automotive predicts Porsche will sell 63,000 Macans in 2014, according to Automotive News, which would make it the brand's best-selling vehicle. Do the math and you can see how Porsche could easily beat original expectations ahead of schedule. But Porsche's sales and marketing boss Bernhard Maier says not so fast: "We will not offer [63,000 Macans] in 2014 as we will still be ramping up production and introducing models top down," he told Automotive News Europe. Whether Porsche surpasses the 200,000 mark early or not, he said, the company will not set a new sales target and will remain committed to its business model.
The Macan shares its architecture with the Audi Q5, but Porsche will be able to charge more for its SUV. Tim Urquhart, a senior analyst at IHS Autmotive, told Automotive News that Porsche can charge 10 to 20 percent more, for what is basically the same SUV, than other VW Group brands. How's that for brand value?

Porsche 918 Spyder gets tiny recall for rear control arms

Tue, 09 Sep 2014

As the recent US recall of a single Koenigsegg Agera shows, even low-production supercars aren't immune from safety campaigns. Now, there's another example that even the fastest cars can have their faults. The Porsche 918 Spyder is a pretty fantastic vehicle for its ability to mix hybrid fuel economy and incredible amounts of power, but Porsche has a problem on a few units of its halo model.
According to the recall document from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Porsche needs to inspect and possibly repair five 918s in the US because the rear axle control arms may break, which could cause a loss of control while driving. In the full defect notice, Porsche says that it first noticed the problem on June 26 when the parts failed during "heavy duty durability testing (extreme race conditions)" at the Nardo test track in Italy. It transported the components back to the company's lab for inspection, and on July 18 it issued a stop-sale to inspect the suspension parts on the supercar. The automaker also contacted owners by phone to warn them not to use the car on track, until repaired.
The affected 918s will be inspected, and if the cars have the bad parts, the control arms are will be replaced. Obviously, this will be done at no cost to owners. According to a Porsche spokesperson speaking to Autoblog, in addition to the five US cars potentially affected, there were 45 worldwide. All of the cars have now been checked.
